Hi-tech adventures

Really liked the concept, it sounded intriguing and imaginative. Even if not the most original, there was potential and it was one of the more potential-filled concepts of the late 'Ducktales' episodes. Something about the title also intrigues, very profound-sounding. Other than the concept, my main reasons for seeing "Scrooge's Last Adventure" was because Scrooge is a great character, just as much as 'Ducktales' being a great show in more its early years than the late ones which were more variable.

"Scrooge's Last Adventure" has always been an interesting episode with a lot of elements executed very well. It is infinitely better than "New Gizmo-Kids on the Block" and after being wasted in that episode Fenton is much better served here. Have though always considered "Scrooge's Last Adventure" an uneven episode and somewhat disjointed, the second half being better than the first, that could have done more with the concept and the potential it had.

The animation is quite nice, particularly in the second half. The music again cannot be faulted and neither can the voice acting (Alan Young was born for Scrooge and Hamilton Camp is a spirited Fenton). There are some smart moments in the writing.

Did feel that the second half has its fair share of imaginative moments and the better of the two halves. Despite a slow start, "Scrooge's Last Adventure" does pick up going into the middle act and from there it is a superior episode. Fenton is both amusing and likeable, with the episode making the most of his strengths and skills like in the major highlight that is the disrupted demo sequence (for his expressions primarily). Especially going into the last third and the whole of the climactic parts of the episode. Also don't Gyro being this much of a joy or this well utilised in a while. The climax is exciting.

As said though, to me "Scrooge's Last Adventure" felt somewhat disjointed in that it did at times feel like two episodes in one. One being more interesting than the other, while also still needing a whole episode to fully explore it which made it feel at times rushed. The first third for my taste wasn't really all that promising and actually quite painful at its worst.

Partly because of the way Huey, Duey and Louie were written. They are often very endearing and well defined characters but there have been times where the show has been known to exaggerate their negative traits, that's the case here with "Scrooge's Last Adventure". It did take some time to warm to Scrooge too, the horrible treatment of his servants is hard to take and his reaction to his fate is almost too easy. While the second half was quite imaginative and engrossing, the first was pleasant and amusing once it got going finally going into the middle act. It took a while to get there and some of it felt like too much of a retread.

In conclusion, decent if uneven. 6/10
