Confusing and Forgettable
uninviteds9 August 2019
Human Lost is a hodgepodge of anime tropes and concepts that shows its influences a little too clearly. It presents a complex world with ill-defined rules that is never well explained despite tons of exposition. Because of that It is difficult to go more into details of the plot. Even taken at simple entertainment value for its action scenes it is hard to recommend since the cell shaded computer animation is uneven throughout the film taking you out of the movie. The highway scene would be one of the most entertaining part of the film if Akira didn't do it better 30 years ago. It is not a terrible film, but an easily forgettable one that might lose some viewers' attention.

An Overall Passable Dystopian Movie
harisnazir-108073 October 2021
Human Lost is a alright type of movie, with some neat action, but pretty unoriginal. The movie provides you will 1h 50mins of dystopian action, however it will be difficult for you to remember anything except the main plotline after a week. The movie is also quite confusing, with lots of things going on at the same time, and it would have been better if some of the storylines were cut out.

However, not everything is bad with this movie. The animation looks very slick, and the color design is very vibrant. The action and violence in this movie is also cool, with lots of cool shots. A particular good scene is the highway scene, which has very good shots combined with good animation. Like I before it is an alright movie, probably worth a watch, but not one that you will go to revisit time and time again.

Beautiful disaster
mrsatyre7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for a movie with stunning visuals to show off your OLED TV, this is a prime candidate. However, if you're looking for a movie with stunning visuals AND writing, look elsewhere. This film is a beautiful disaster.

What is particularly disappointing is how quickly the plot---almost generic, but still thought-provoking and realistic in and of itself (that of a future society of people embracing possible immortality at the expense of their humanity)---devolves into B-movie schlock.

Apparently, all citizens endowed with nanotechnology designed to repair all physical ills and keep their host in peak condition, are at risk of becoming lost: to make a painfully long, convoluted and utterly farcical pseudoscience explanation short, inhuman, tentacled monsters. I guess when writers get stuck in a rut, or smoke too much weed, cue pointless monsters.

On top of this mess, we have the usual cast of grim soldiers, self-centered elitists in a predictable walled city and protected by their private security teams, a devilishly handsome, but predictably mad scientist replete with requisite round spectacles, obsessed with bringing down the system via whatever twisted methods are at his disposal (monsters), and a laughable psychic girl in some sort of outfit reminiscent of bad cosplay and a beret, a protagonist with absolutely nothing to make you care about him and who of course becomes a monster almost at will to fight bad guy monsters, and plenty of technobabble, and you have Human Lost.

But, wow, sure is gorgeous!

Beautiful nonsense
daisukereds12 March 2021
** I'm still not sure about this whole NEW era of 3D models replacing artwork.. even though I quite like the style of Yuusuke Kozaki (Fire Emblem Awakening, for example), which these all seem to be based on.

Anyway. This movie is well-organized nonsense with a beautiful coat of paint!! From great color usage, to nice-looking clothing and suit designs, interfaces, characters, etc. Sadly, there is not much to say about the animation, action or script itself. It feels like a poor mix of Ghost in the Shell's futuristic technology, Evangelion's end of the world nonsense, and terrible monster designs and general desperation from Knights of Sidonia.

I'm sure there is a message somewhere about society or something, but it all feels force-fed, not explained well enough and not enjoyable. Confusing speeches aside, the plot is too simplistic and doesn't leave any room for creativity or imagination.. Like they didn't have fun making it. Most people won't probably like the world and lore they built. It lacks details and love in many areas. Wanted to see it, did, and now I can get over it.

Terrible...
castielminion111 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I literally just finished watching this, hoping that it would get better as it went on. It didn't and right now I wish I had listened to that little voice telling me to turn it off at the 10 minute mark.

It was a cool concept for a story- what price does longevity carry?- but the execution was awful. The story isn't coherent; you have to guess at that is happening at some points whereas others are too exposition heavy. I still don't understand some of the concepts in this film because there was little or no explanation as to what they were or why they were important.

Some of the points felt so fleeting that it felt like the script writers just threw a bunch of ideas at it and whatever one stuck is what they went with, which makes it not only inconsistent but extremely confusing! Like why did not being part of the S. H. E. L. L system give people superpowers? Why were the powers so inconsistent with their presentation, for example the main character can turn into this skull creature that can destroy monsters. In The first half of the film he is just a creature, but come the second half of the film he suddenly has a suit of armour, a helmet and a spear with no explanation as to how he got them?! The main character has repressed memories about a childhood trauma, breaks down for all of a minute about it, then is totally fine, like he didn't just have a life changing realisation! It's barely mentioned again after this one scene! If you're going to introduce these themes be consistent with them!

The character design leaves much to be desired too. Nothing about the characters stood out individually and some of them seemed to just be cookie cutter stereotypes in terms of personality. (Evil big boss, reluctant hero, several plucky side characters, mysterious girl e.t.c) In terms of design the main character's alter ego looked like a Ghost Rider rip off. If you're going to create a superhero type monster then at least make him unique. Also, the previously mentioned helmet was awfully designed and made the character look a bit daft instead of intimidating. It was well rendered, but awfully designed!

They also didn't do much character building. The main character just felt two- dimensional and in all honesty a bit boring. The side characters weren't given enough screen time, development or personality to make you care about them or about their deaths, which I am sure was not the intention!

The Lost monsters? I don't have the space to go on about how poorly designed they were and how awful a concept they were, so I'll leave this part up to your imagination. Suffice to say they were terrible.

Some of the animation was good, which is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. I could go on but I don't want to waste anymore time thinking about it! Do yourself a favour and don't watch it!

Full of regret
vaisviladarius11 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It started great, it showed us that humanity lost their freedom, their time and individuality as they weren't even allowed to die or forced working 19 hours a day, not only that, human experiments, air pumped with hormones or your body being used for organs (or something) after their deaths. It showed that SHELL and people at the top was horrible entity despite their beautiful goals.

Yes movie done nothing with that. A guy who wanted to free humanity in second half was painted as cartoonish evil guy and SHELL is accepted as good. Basically story went from interesting and thought provoking into "Lets beat a bad guys with super powers" Other reviews already addressed but characters were bland, maybe because of it short duration but they weren't interesting or unique at all. They were bland and simple.

A lot of lore/world building were omitted so you won't understand some parts in the movie, people's motivation, effects and such.

There is no fixing this movie, I regret wasting my time as first 10-20 minutes was a peak.
