It took me a while to get back in the loop. It would seem that this episode was designed to get us up to speed on who is hurting, who is hoping, and how the universe is changing. Each of the major characters is facing a crisis but seems to be facing it alone. Some say these episode are dull, but it has been a couple years and this is necessary. Well acted with awesome special effects.

I really missed intertwining plots

Of course is a slow start, any first episode of a season has the customary recaps + introducing new characters but this episode brings back the s1-s3 feeling of interwoven plot lines that will slowly walk towards a climax. I can't wait to see what they have in store.
Vey slow start

THE EXPANSE S05:E01 EXODUS
IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE IN OUR BELOVED CREW IS BEING BROKEN UP THROUGH SOME DOMESTIC SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS WOULD CERTAINLY NOT BE THE MANNER IN WHICH I WOULD START THIS MUCH ANTICIPATED NEW SEASON. I AM THANKFUL PEOPLE WERE KILLED EARLY.
MAYBE THAT'S WHY THEY WISHED TO CONCEAL THIS NECESSARY SLOW/EXPLANATORY BUILDUP BY COMBINING THE FIRST 3 EPISODES INTO A MINI-SERIES. WE WILL SEE. GIVEN ALL THESE CONSIDERATIONS, I'M STILL STOKED AF!!!

Is this going anywhere? Besides...

I fear that the Marco Inaros - Finding Filip subplots are going to be quite tedious. And, anyhow, I cannot understand the high rating (8.5) in an episode where people just talk and nothing happens - even the Amos space brawl is not shown!
The show has lost its mojo

Warning: Spoilers
We've gone from an event / action driven masterpiece to a CW grade angst fest.
The Expanse has always been slow, with gorgeous visuals tying together adventure, action, political intrigue and mystery, into a feast.
This episode took those elements, reduced the content by 1/3 and inserted far too much emotive nonsense. I get that we need to split everyone up and send them off on their adventures, but the "i have to go find my son" scene was an absolute stinker. Neither of the actors was particularly comfortable with it, Although it fit Holden's growingly irritating whining helplessness. For the first time, i fast forwarded. The minutes of gurning and fake tears was just too much. No idea how the book managed the split, by in me head it wasn't in such a generic, by the numbers, 'American TV angst' event.
Not much happened. Two 'events' , one minor, a few clumsy scenes to re-enforce character traits and, for the first time, some bad cgi. The specular lighting inside Tycho station was just not quite right.
I really hope we have not lost this series to the cancer that is character angst and emotive overload that so defines US tv output.
