The Original Flying Guillotine
ckormos121 April 2015
Through the history of martial arts movies many out-of-this-world weapons were invented for our big-screen heroes and villains. I daresay the most famous weapon of all could be the "Flying Guillotine". Any list of top twenty martial arts movies favorites has to include some movie with "Flying Guillotine" in the title. The crazy weapon was even worthy of an investigation on "Myth Busters". I confess I am somewhat of a Shaw Brothers hipster or snob when it comes to martial arts movies. It is only recently I have come to appreciate the early Taiwan martial arts movies. Taiwan did make some fine martial movies in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I have no excuse for what happened after that. In 1969 out of Taiwan came this movie. The Bloody Mask is really a Flying Guillotine - without attention to the sharp steel parts. Is this the first movie with a Flying Guillotine as a weapon? I don't know as I have not watched them all. It is my sincere intention to watch them all, so I'll get back to you. Overall, it is an above average movie that would hold the interest of all fans of the genre. When you add the possibility of the first ever flying guillotine that makes it mandatory to watch.
