...but probably the best episode so far. I was worried they were gonna force Jake and Cobie together (no chemistry whatsoever there, but, hopefully, they're off that track.
Strong sidestory concentrating on Ansel, who is the actual star of the show, so that was nice.
Strong character development with some background added.
Story, yes, formulaic, done a thousand times, reinforces stereotype....but stereotypes are there for a reason, people, and it ain't cuz they're hardly ever accurate.
IMO, well done, keep it up.
For the homophobes who won't watch anymore...you will not be missed.

Yes, predictable, but...

Warning: Spoilers
This particular episode has been replayed several times, in different series, but it develops the other characters. The flash backs with Dex, the jealousy of her brother, the change of character for the lieutenant, the new relationship of the bar owner. Something as cliché as a rock stalker, for the purpose of this series, is a great way to introduce character history.
OK, the plot was a little formulaic, but...

It really wasn't that bad. Not like some of the folks are saying here anyway. So Dex had a girlfriend once upon a time (revealed in an earlier episode), so what? She is tied to the Rose City, it's not like they would get back together.
Oh yeah, and the main plot story? Yeah, predictable and formulaic.....

A decent episode, but a step down

The main arc is familiar enough. A rock star has a stalker, bla-bla, quite the predictable stuff right to the reveal. Tookie's side-story was much better (aaand tastier). Same goes for Grey and Ansel who is just such a sweet soul, you could tell he felt abandoned the moment Grey started conversing with the woman. I thought it was an organic build-up on the last episode. Grey has his own complicated life and Ansel is starting to realize that which is probably painful for him.
PS: What's with all the paranoid "homophobe" accusations? Dex is bi in the graphic novel, it'd be a good idea if they explore that in a deeper and more meaningful manner. This episode's pseudo-romance felt forced and formulatic. Fiona actually addressing the situation while being interrogated? It felt very pulp and ultimately lead to nothing.
Stumptown continues to deliver

The series continues to build its characters, exploring their past, their relationships, forging their present life. That's all very well done.
Also: homophobes didn't like it (but are okay with murderers. Go figure!). To bad for them!

Unsurprisingly the trolls and homophobes came out of the woodwork for that one

The show is quite frankly a mess, writing wise.
The first episode, written by the creator of the comic book, did well and struck a good balance between humor, action and drama.
They haven't been doing so well since then, and admittedly the shameless sweeps bait is not faring much better.
It's like the show doesn't know what it wants to be and who it wants to be for, as it usually the case for network shows lately, as they desperately want to reach younger audiences than the usual senior homes and leave it to beaver families watching their shows, but remain completely unable to accept that they will have to sacrifice the baby boomers if they want to get anyone born after 1980 interested.
It doesn't help that ABC seems to believe (thank you Grey's Anatomy?) that female led shows can only be interesting to female viewers if there are love interests, love triangles, boy trouble and all the usual BS that comes with "shows for women" from the early 2000s and before.
So was this a good episode? No. Why? Because it wasn't sexy enough? or because the guest lesbian wasn't hot enough? or because "homosexuality ruins everything" (LOL)? Nope. Because the writing was bad and the character in the comics is bisexual through and through. Not just when it's about getting old pervs to watch the show during sweeps.
And by the way, Cobie Smulders is a producer on the show. IF she didn't want to do a gay scene, she wouldn't have picked a comic book whose character is bisexual. Then network happened.

This was episode was bad.

Horrific acting by Fiona X was so awful it made all the other new direction and character development seem cheezy and petty. The story pushing to make Dex Bi-sexual was so badly presented by force it left nothing for the rest of the main characters and plot lines to connect ,Tookie and Lt. Cosgrove's budding food relationship was the only saving grace for me in this episode. By the end I didn't even care about who was the stalker or why, I just wanted it over. Made me question why I even watch the show in the first place. I really liked the show up to this point.
Nope. First bad episode
