Looking for Western analogies to "Gitler Kaput!" won't lead you further than to the latest silly parodies of "Meet the Spartans" sort. But in this case a parody ("Semnadtsat mgnoveniy vesny" (1973)) is just a skeleton, and the meat is Russian pop-culture, pop-music, popular jokes, all sorts of silly internet memes. So you don't have to be a cinephile to enjoy this movie like you do in Hollywood parodies' case. Just watch and listen like you do in circus. Busty beauties, special effects, acrobats in nazi uniform but incoherent in each and every detail - sorry if it's not your cup of tea. Don't expect too much from a trash comedy, which is a pretty new genre in Russia. One can only wonder if it matures in the years to come.

Well. This year we have seen one more "masterpiece". Before us "has pleased" - "Samyy best film" If the beginning was still more or less further it all became worse and worse and has ended with a crazy ending. There was an impression that script writers not so strained - having decided that the spectator and it will gobble up and have actually appeared are right. Such weak film, and after all has collected already more than 8 million dollars in hire. That is we in the future will be waited by following "masterpieces" Now a little about actor's game. Anna Semenovich it is simply awful, it is impossible time to look all at its huge bust... Derevyanko too looks not the good, but nevertheless it is better, than Semenovich. Other actors also not so tried.

I was unlucky enough to actually buy tickets to Hitler Kaput. A bit less than one hour of this was all I could stand. I know, I never finished it, but what I saw was more than enough for me to comprehend the awfulness of this picture.
Full of cheesy pop culture praising, horrible humor and dialogue, as well as failed attempts at parodizing popular western titles - this is one movie you should really.. really.. REALLY avoid.
If its some decent Russian comedy you're looking for, go grab Briliantovaya Ruka or Osobennosti Nazionalnoi Okhoty. Anything but this.

There's no such thing as a 10/10 film - even the greatest movies on the planet don't go into the 9's. I went out of my way to give this flick a 10/10 rating, as a way to thank the mindless idiots who come here to give stellar ratings to absolute trash. Whether they were involved in the production, or know someone in the production, or were paid to, doesn't matter. They ruin a good, reliable source of information with their ridiculous ratings and comments, and you now have to wait years until people with sense bring the ratings back to where they belong. I will give this movie a watch, but don't expect to last more than 1/2 hour. Regardless, 10/10, with a tip of the hat to the shills!

"Gitler kaput!" tells the story of a Soviet spy that is moving inside Adolf Hitlers inner circle and comically has to fulfill his duty and avoid many slapstick situations.
I don't really understand why there is a need to make a slapstick movie out of a period of history in which so many innocent people were murdered. However, I won't say that it is a total no go under certain circumstances. This movie though only shows that its producers were pretty much lacking a feeling for the topic. Not only are they making fun of the victims as well, which gives this film a pretty bitter taste, they also make jokes in such a simple and unintelligent way that you are more cringing than laughing. That this is not my style of humor is a personal matter, others might like a little slapstick and that's fine. But combined with the setting, this is so inapropriate that you ask yourself who thought that this would be a good idea.
All in all it's just not a good movie. Too intented to be a good trash movie yet so trashy that you can't nearly take it serious. Maybe pick a lighter topic and the humor might work better.

I haven't laughed so much in ages... the director is brilliant - daring - how about Buzz Luhrman meets Mel Brooks with a touch of Tarentino. Plot needs work, and yes, it is not structurally perfect, far from it, but it is so well done, and so funny, and so imaginative and original (key word) - that I can forgive much. This director has a serious future. I would recommend this to anyone who has not sworn allegiance to the politically correct and who loves a crazed romp. Certain scenes are to die for - such as the scene where Hitler uses potatoes to explain the how-to in the Russia/Germany conflict. I bet that the 3rd picture of this director will be a world blockbuster. Makes Borat look flat.
Great comedy, love the movie! If you are not Russian you will not get it.

If you are not familiar with Russian pop culture you will not get anything out of this movie besides grotesque scenes of action and bizarre dialog. In reality this movie pays a great homage to the old soviet spy movies. Especially the cult spy series "twelve moments of spring", from which it borrows most of the characters. It is also relentlessly pokes in the most satirical way at todays new Moscow corporate Russia, by presenting it in the form of the third Reich. This movie is comedy genius. Great selection of actors, with some Russian comedy heavy weights. I struggle to see how anyone non Russian would get what the movie is about. But if you watch it, don't judge it as it is not made for the Western audience.
Parody classics

A movie, may be called a classics for the genre of parody. It has a good budget, spent due to the aims of filming, not fore a sake of one's pocket, well detalized in images and dialogs, with a great idea in the final. Despite any jokes it shows the real nature of any war: somebody dies on the front line, somebody enjoys life and makes money. As well, contains a lot of satire on modern russian bohemia.

Despite the low reviews by some here, I think anyone will find much to enjoy in this film. It shows how any totalitarian state is at bottom ridiculous.
Most may not realize that it is also a parody of an old Soviet TV series: "Seventeen Moments of Spring." That the latter was what convinced Putin to join the KGB is more than a little amusing.
That said, it turns all the cliches of the TV series inside out. Our hero begins by accidentally showing a German guard his Party Card--which he then has to cover up with a discreet $100 US bill in his German ID. It's a great comment on contemporary Russian corruption--and the incessant bungling of the much-decayed Russian FSB.
I actually found nothing offensive to the Russian soldiers and civilians of 1941-45. The Nazis are quite properly portrayed as evildoers and madmen. The parody is rather directed at Russian movies ABOUT WW2, that often ARE rather risible. For example, the deadpan offscreen narrator for the hero exactly matches that of Von Stirlitz in "17 Moments," and highlights one of the more annoying elements of the earlier TV series.
With great comic acting and some very witty observations about the shortcomings of (an undoubtedly great) Soviet film industry, this is a worthy successor to such films as "ivan Vasilievich changes his profession" and "Fountain."
