Fantastic start to a unique story line
braininacat17 April 2022
Really enjoyed the set up here and I went into this show blind other then the Amazon ads they were posting. The whole "supernatural cowboy" theme is something that is not done to often and I think has a lot of potential to be done really well. My wife and I were both pleasantly surprised by the first episode and decided to commit and watch the rest of the show as it comes out.

Intriguing first episode with questionable cinematography
samppawe18 April 2022
Very strong opening for the series. Filled with mystery and suspense with great performances and somewhat mixed cinematography. Daytime scenes were beautiful, but the night scenes were almost as bad as the Battle for Winterfell in GoT. Watched the episode on a LG OLED and still had to squint my eyes constantly in hopes to catch even something on the screen. Very bizarre decision to shoot the scenes in so much darkness.

Writing was very solid, apart from a few very convenient things that lead the baddie ranchers to deduct what happened to their brother(?).

Overall an intriguing premise and look forward to seeing how the series builds on the pilot.

Masterclass in first episode creation
bosporan16 April 2022
A good opening which sets the scene well, delineating the enmity between the Abbotts and the Tillersons and the contention over an interesting piece of land.

Some fabulous cinematography, effective dialogue and strong performances (notably from Lili Taylor and Imogen Poots) make this an extremely good establishing episode. The ending makes episode 2 compulsory viewing.

STRONG BEGINNING!!!
jeersNcheers16 April 2022
A clever cross between Yellowstone and the Twilight Zone, and we really liked it! Great actors and great acting, with a mysterious plot. I don't get the "dark" complaints. Our TV is old and not that big and we saw everything fine. Most of the episode did take place at night...

Really enjoyable
alexanderhatkins16 April 2022
It's mysterious but fun and I love getting to see this part of America. It seems there are a lot of pieces being laid to later come together and that's exciting.

The start of a supernatural Cowboys-Fargo-Mystery-Thriller tv show
Shadowboy_25cm10 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you like stories that mix different genres together, then this tv show is for you.

You have a supernatural element, some drama about a family at their ranch, a crime and the conspiracy of the family to keep it a secret, an antagonist, another rancher, who demands some land, that seems to belong to him, you have Josh Brolin, who is fantastic, as the whole cast is great, great cinematography, atmosphere and sound design, well executed direction.

Good and suspenseful start in this mystery tv show.

Well that was exciting!

My good friend told me I would like this show. I see the reviews are mixed but I decided to give it a try since my friend knows my taste pretty well. I love the first episode! The acting is fantastic. The scenery is amazing. The mood is understated and suspenseful. I already really care about Royal, Rhett, and Perry. Their suffering is heartbreaking and I want things to get better for them, not worse.

Special effects well done. The episode ended with a big cliffhanger and I must watch episode two immediately!

Starts slow, ends slow...but I'm still drawn in
grlym-4684920 April 2022
The show seems to draw me in, even though it's slow and super country. Yellowstone has already burned me out of anything "Wyoming...we do what we want with zero consequences"

But this outer limits kind of strange fiction has me curious. I should know in the next few episodes if it's worth sticking around.

This is a good, solid show. Don't compare it to shows you expect it be like. Enjoy it for what it is.; a good story, good characters and many very good actors.

READ THIS BEFORE WATCHING ENTIRE SERIES. IT MAY SAVE YOU 6 HOURS.
jamosmonk7 May 2022
The writers of this series are experts. Expert in taking a halfway decent idea and flushing it down the tubes.

If only it paid off in some way.. But it doesn't. Anyone can watch the first episode and last episode and gain the entirety of it without 6 hours of wasted time in between. Not to mention the infuriating ways Every character behaves. Every character. Gonna post this in both first and eighth positions. Maybe it will save someone's time.

Perfect Start 10/10!
loganfoxbiz19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a very intriguing Sci-Fi show. I could see everything just fine, so I don't get the complaints about it being too dark (does that really warrant a 1 star review?)

It's slow enough that it can be sustained over 8 episodes, but it isn't boring at really any part. The characters are interesting, and it leaves you wanting to know more.

What happened to Rebecca? Why did Autumn push Royal into "The Void?" And the biggest question of all: Is everything predestined?

Overall, it's a great start, and is far more entertaining then I expected the very first episode of this kind of show to be.

10/10 I recommend it!

Great start but half of it was way too dark to see
janetch29 April 2022
I couldn't see half the show because today's directors seem to think that any light at all will spoil the mood of their night shots. They need to realize that made-for-TV means people aren't watching on a.60+ foot screen in an almost pitch black theater. Literally impossible to see on a standard (or even a big-screen) TV in a living room.

Too cheap for lights
us_rebates15 April 2022
What a waste of one hour. This show is just freaking annoying with the dumb dialogue and lack of daylight. You can't see a freaking thing and if the writers think this is mysterious they need to quit there day job.

The "blackness" of your destiny!
cjonesas23 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 1: A mishmash of a pilot with some good soporific acting by near everybody as far as their lives are concerned!, unneat storyline plots, especially the one concerning the unlikable "poet" camper with an artificial smile and eyes full of mysteriousness and devilishness, some unsuspenseful mysteries out of the blue, some great sceneries and cinematography

and

a horrible lighting or basically lack of in the scenes set in the dark or at night. Constantly needed to adjust the brightness to +3 to 6 to maybe discern something, being the surrounding or movements or both, and revert it back for the daylight scenes!

The main problem of the pilot is its lazy soporific acting and development. Like having almost everything in slow-motion.

Sci-fi Yellowstone
Sonneilon16 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How else to explain this show? It's Yellowstone but sci-fi-ish. It's slow-moving. The Abbott family has money issues and people want the land. Will Patton (yeah, he was just in Yellowstone, right?) no longer drills holes on asteroids but wants land just cuz he can.

The Void would have been more mysterious except Autumn (Imogen Poots apparently survived zombies in England) pretty much tells her theory (and the initial voice over) of what it is. Based on what the viewer experiences, it seems accurate.

Let's get to the point. This feels like a show that should be on network tv. It's got that La Brea, Manifest, 4400, Colony, Debris, Zoo, etc. Production feel. It definitely goes into full effect at the end of Ep2, which there really isn't any point in reviewing. Why? Because it just continues the story and feels tired. Or it's because Thanos feels tired and bored.

It's early into the season so maybe the pace will pick up and grab the viewer moreso.

I can't see this film. They filmed it in the dark.
gsmack16 April 2022
Really compelling dialogue and possible storyline, but I can't see the damn thing. Why the hell do they film this in the dark?

The cast is terrific with some truly great performers. Outstanding writing. I just wish I could see it.

Contrived Writing
OnjiMooteDaMarle18 April 2022
The characters are cliche, the feud too is and so is the writing. Apart from some curious moments this episode is a dud. As it is a suspense/thriller series there is hope.

Awful...
ajmillar17 April 2022
Incoherent nonsense...it plays like a very long X-Files episode without the awesome Mulder/Scully duo. I can only imagine the pitch: Let's make an artsy/fartsy Yellowstone because we can't just copy Yellowstone because we don't have the talent.

So, Outer Range is what you get...

I watched episode 1 and 20 minutes each of episodes 2 & 8. Do yourself a favour and read the reviews for episode 8 before watching any more episodes. You will thank me.
