When the station manager Mr. Hutton (Billy De Wolfe) informs Larry (Ronnie Schell) and Dave (Joby Baker) that they are nominated separately for the Golden Mikey Award, an instant rivalry forms. Each tries to outperform one another on air. The unmistakable link to "The Dick Van Dyke Show" continues with a plot similar to that of "My Two Showoffs and Me" in playing up to a visiting columnist. This episode title "You vs. Me" even seems to borrow from that episode title. The role of columnist Harriet Hatfield is played by Ann Morgan Guilbert, who played the Petrie's neighbor Millie Helper. She writes a remark from Dave out of context and it sounds as if he is calling Larry a dummy. Now their rivalry takes on a fiery edge as they await to see who wins the award. Some funny lines come from the predicament.
