With Christmas just around the corner, almost like clockwork, a flurry of related animated movies and specials are getting released, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise is the latest one to follow suit. Based on the bestselling book series of the same name written by Jeff Kinney, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie series follows the misadventures of middle-schooler Greg Heffley and his simpleton, good-natured friend Rowley Jefferson. Narrative wise, the third entry in the animated movie trilogy, Cabin Fever, is definitely an improvement over the second entry, Rodrick Rules, and that’s primarily because of the festive charm captured through family dynamics. However, the trademark wit imbued in the source material through Jeff Kinney’s characterization was majorly missing in the movie, which was somewhat balanced out by the heart and an alternate, comparatively better ending than the book. Although the black-and-white line art animation...

Bob Iger says Disney is going all-in on streaming.
The Disney CEO laid out a new course on Wednesday for the company’s streaming business, saying the company would launch a beta version of a combined Disney+ and Hulu app offering in December and make achieving “significant and sustained profitability” for its streaming business a top priority.
The company’s confidence was supported by strong streaming results in Q4, adding 7 million subscribers to Disney+, mostly international.
With the company set to purchase Comcast’s remaining 33% minority stake of Hulu for at least $8.61 billion in 2024 and a fully direct-to-consumer version of ESPN targeting a 2025 launch, Disney has laid the groundwork to execute a more focused assault on its competitors.
“If you think about the portfolio of streaming assets that we will have — Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN — that’s a very, very strong hand,” Iger said on the company’s Q4 call with analysts.

If you're a horror fan of a certain age, R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books and the subsequent Ytv television series were formative to your monster kid upbringing. Whether it was thirsting after the new cover illustrated by Tim Jacobus at the Scholastic Book Fair or rushing to get your homework done to be able to watch the newest episode on TV, "Goosebumps" was and continues to be a seminal gateway to the world of all things spooky and scary for young audiences. In 2015, a "Goosebumps" film by Rob Letterman was released featuring Jack Black as a fictionalized version of Stine whose monstrous musings manifest in our real world, and the film performed well enough at the box office to justify a Halloween-themed sequel three years later.

Master Splinter tells Raphael that he has “bravery,” which is a positive spin on Raph’s declaration that he “dreams of fighting every night.” He’s got a rage problem but sometimes you need a little of that in the family. Raphael is the big brother of the Turtles and very loyal to all of them, even if his aggression gets in the way sometimes. As the original theme song says, he’s cool but crude. Despite that his good heart shines through. Raph wants to experience life as a human, imagining what it might be like to go to high school, instead of living as a mutant outcast.

Thanks to the nature of the medium, actors in animation don't have to be in the same room together to share a scene. In most productions, actors' voices are recorded and edited ahead of time, and the animators add their physical acting after the fact. It's typically more common for animated productions to record each of their actors separately, then edit together a vocal track before the animation begins. Indeed, if one has ever seen a behind-the-scenes video of voice actors in a booth, one might see how recording lines can become very tedious as actors will have to repeat single lines over and over again until the director hears a take they like. It's quite rare for actors to play out entire scenes the way they appear in a final animated product.

When I discovered Disney+ had a sequel miniseries in the works for the "Santa Clause" Christmas movie series, dread stirred deep in my inner being. So far, I did not have much luck with these properties: "Home Sweet Home Alone" was painfully unfunny, while the "Diary Of A Wimpy Kid" 2021 animated reboot was inconsequential and — dare I say? — boring (a fatal flaw in any kids' film). I had come to accept that Disney+ was where the 20th Century Studios franchises went to die. Thankfully (if surprisingly), that does not appear to be the case for "The Santa Clauses" miniseries — at least not based on the two episodes provided for review.
"The Santa Clauses" is a direct sequel to the beloved "Santa Clause" trilogy. Scott Calvin (Tim Allen), aka Santa Claus, is nearing his 65th birthday, and it's clear the Christmas magic is starting to wane. This leads him and his wife,...

Few expected that Shawn Levy would strike franchise gold in 2006 when the first "Night at the Museum" was released, but the film based on the 1993 children's book of the same name by Croatian illustrator Milan Trenc has since spawned two sequels, inspired a never-made theme park ride, and even got the Lego treatment in 2020. The original film centered on Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), a divorced father who finds a job at the American Museum of Natural History as a night guard. What appears to be an easy job of keeping an eye on a bunch of fossils and artifacts turns into the adventure of a lifetime after he discovers an ancient spell has caused the exhibits of the museum to come to life.
After the Fox-Disney merger, at-the-time CEO Bob Iger announced a new "Night at the Museum" animated feature, and now we're finally going to see the final product.

A “Family Guy” skit had a genuinely negative impact on Chloë Grace Moretz.
Moretz, 25, has been acting professionally as a child. A paparazzi photograph of the actress was parodied into a “Family Guy” character. That “Family Guy” segment took a life of its own as it made the transition into meme culture.
“I’ve actually never really talked about this, but there was one meme that really affected me, of me walking into a hotel with a pizza box in my hand,” Moretz recently told Hunger magazine. “And this photo got manipulated into a character from ‘Family Guy’ with the long legs and the short torso, and it was one of the most widespread memes at the time.”

Ryan Grantham, a Canadian actor whose credits include “Riverdale,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Supernatural,” has been sentenced to life in prison with parole ineligibility of 14 years for the second-degree murder of his mother, CBC reports.
In March 2020, the actor shot his mom, Barbara Waite, in the back of the head with a .22 rifle as she played piano in their home in Squamish, British Columbia. As shown in court, Grantham then took a GoPro video shortly after the murder, in which he confesses to killing his mother and shows her body. The following day, he covered the body with a sheet, surrounded it with lit candles and hung a rosary from the piano, before driving east to Ottawa in a car packed with guns, ammunition and Molotov cocktails. His intention was to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Instead, he drove to Hope, B.C., with thoughts of committing a...

Former ‘Riverdale’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life behind bars without the possibility of parole for 14 years for killing his mother.
The by-the-book second-degree murder punishment was handed down by British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker on September 21 in Vancouver, reports ‘Deadline’.
With the sentence already a forgone conclusion over the laws of the Canadian province, the only real wild card was how long the guilty pleading Grantham would have to wait before the currently 24-year-old could apply for parole.
The Leo Awards nominated Grantham turned himself to police soon after shooting his 64-year-old mother Barbara Waite in the back of the head on March 31, 2020, in the family’s Squamish home, just north of Vancouver.
A second-degree murder charge in B.C. comes with no parole eligibility of between 10 and 25 years.

Ryan Grantham, the former “Riverdale” actor who pleaded guilty to killing his mother, was sentenced to life in prison with the ability to apply for parole after 14 years on Thursday.
The sentence, handed down by a Canadian judge, was automatic with his second-degree murder conviction, with only the length of parole ineligibility in question.
CBC reported the news.
The 24-year-old’s sentencing was levied by Justice Kathleen Kerr of the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver. Court proceedings were held in June to determine when Grantham should be eligible for parole.
The previous hearing made headlines after prosecutors said that Grantham — whose credits include the 2010 film “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and a 2019 episode of “Riverdale” — allegedly plotted an attempted assassination of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which he packed his vehicle with guns, ammunition, a dozen Molotov cocktails and a map to Trudeau’s family residence in Ottawa. With its seventh edition coming to an end, Venice’s Book Adaptation Rights Market (Barm) is already eyeing the future. The three-day event – taking place during the Italian fest – is now recognized as the third most important annual rendezvous by the publishers, states Pascal Diot, head of industry sidebar Venice Production Bridge.
“It’s starting to be ‘the’ event for the publishers to attend,” agrees Vpb’s Chiara Marin.
“Before, I would go to all these book fairs and when I would mention Venice Film Festival, people would go: ‘What are you doing here?,’ ” she laughs.
As the demand for adapted stories increases, even more publishers and literary agencies were invited this year, including Taipei’s Dala Publishing, Emily Books Agency and The Grayhawk Agency. Due to popular demand, the event also decided to focus on comics and graphic novels, with the likes of Casterman, Glénat, Nathan, Tunué, Astiberri Ediciones,...
