Hooking A Big One
boblipton20 November 2019
Nilde Baracchi sends Marcel Perez out fishing, armed .... I mean "equipped" with a long, sturdy bamboo fishing pole and a line and hook. However, what he catches is not fish in this funny late 'Robinet' short.

Perez, of course, hooks onto various objects and people; we understand that from the nature of slapstick comedy before the title has rolled on the copy available on the Eye Institute's YouTube site. What is interesting in that the standard forms were changing. There is no chase sequence, with all the people offended by Perez' damage. Such chases had been a standard component of comedies like this since 1904. Their abandonment indicates that the audiences had seen everyone and everything being chased by everyone and everything else, so let's move on. The chase can be assumed, in a sort of cinematic shorthand.
