The Stage is Set
Prismark1021 February 2021
This documentary series looks at the football rivalry between two high school teams in the small towns of Pahokee and Belle Glade in Florida.

The area in the Florida swamps is known as Muck City because of the dark soil that grows sugarcane crops.

The two high school teams reputedly produce more professional football players per capita than anywhere else. It is one way to escape poverty.

This is not a wealthy area even though Fort Lauderdale is only about 40 miles away.

The first episode certainly sets the stage. It was filmed in 2019. Coach Demir 'DJ' Boldin, brother of football pro Anquan Boldin has returned home to coach the team of Pahokee.

Former NFL wide receiver Jessie Hester is leading the neighbouring Glades Central Raiders.

The documentary focuses on the coaches, players and their families.

It was an earnest but uninspiring start. Nothing really jumped out of the first episode apart from one of the young footballers has an injury and he cannot afford to have it treated.
