Lessons "DEXTER" Taught Me...
cchase23 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
If I have learned anything from watching this show for three incredible seasons, it's not to second-guess the writing team behind the dark brilliance of each and every episode. What a roller-coaster ride it's been, but never as twisted, bumpy or unpredictable as Season Three, with this story arc featuring the dynamite Jimmy Smits as the deceptively sociopathic DA Miguel Prado.

Watching him go mano-a-mano with Michael C. Hall was like sitting in on a guitar duel between B.B. King and the late, great Bo Diddley, and I am sorry it had to end as all good things must. But DEX fans have certainly been gifted with the way this season of shocks and surprises has left our 'hero' - as a newly christened 'family man' - which is really the biggest surprise of all.

Is it really possible for him to remain in light while his "dark passenger" continues to go along for the ride? And what does the future hold for our vigilante serial killer, whose moonlighting work sometimes has a pesky and frightening way of following him home?

I don't know how closely the books have been followed at this point, but I know I'm hooked as long as this show is on, and I can't wait to start reading them.

So long until Season Four, Mr. Morgan. We hardly knew ye at Season One...and we're only starting to scratch the surface even now.

A Fantastic Conclusion!
g-bodyl12 November 2014
This is the twelfth and final episode of the third season of Dexter and it is a really fitting episode. There are some action-packed moments as well as several emotional moments. However slow the first half of the season here makes up for it here. The episode focuses on the aftermath of Miguel's disappearance as there is still lurking danger to be had.

In this episode, "Do You Take Dexter Morgan?," with Miguel now gone from his life, Dexter believes all he has to worry about is his wedding. But the Skinner thinks elsewise. The Skinner kidnaps Dexter trying to get information out of him about Freebo.

Overall, this episode is a very good conclusion to a rather strong, if not a little slow season. There is really nothing strange here, but for me it was a satisfactory ending. I rate this episode 10/10.

The Third Charm
claudio_carvalho31 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Miguel Prado is found dead in the MO of the Skinner. Dexter's house is destroyed by Ramon that is missing. Debra is promoted and receives her aimed detective shield. She snoops the past of Harry and is advised that some things are better left on the box. Dexter reads a letter of Rita's mother referring to the third charm and he discovers a hidden secret about Rita's past. The Skinner is chasing Dexter and captures him.

The conclusion of this excellent Third Season has no surprises, and Dexter satisfactorily resolves his issues with Ramon Prado and the Skinner. My vote is eight.

Season 3: Consistently enjoyable and engaging season with strong narrative flow and strength in the well used characters (suggestive SPOILERS)
bob the moo17 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I left it quite a few months before I started out on season 3 of this show – perhaps a short amount of time for television viewers waiting the best part of a year and then a week between each episode, but notable for my viewing habits. The reason was that I had ended season 2 not liking Dexter (the character) all that much due to the death of Doakes (because as much as the last minute spin tried to put that death on someone else, it was down to him in all but the final deed). It was also better to leave a bit of a gap instead of wolfing all the season, but this was my main reason for doing so.

Starting without these feelings being fresh in my memory allowed me to get back into "liking" Dexter, or at least being on his side (which is what the show needs the viewer to be doing). This season sees Dexter targeting murder and dealer Freebo only for things to go wrong and an "innocent" to get killed instead. When this innocent turns out to be the brother of up and coming DA Miguel Prado, a high profile hunt for Freebo is launched, with Dexter knowing he must get to him first to prevent the truth coming out. His close involvement in the case gets the appreciation of Miguel and a sort of friendship develops between the two while Dexter's personal life/front take another change thanks to unforeseen developments with Rita.

This season long plot does what the previous season had done well, which is to have one overall narrative but to write it in such a way that it is almost possible to break it down into rough sections. So, for example, here the different sections as they relate to Dex can be seen to start with his hunt for Freebo, his new friendship and finally the fallout from that new friendship. The strength in the writing though is that these sections (and other sectional threads) all overlap really well so that the season does function as a well-flowing single narrative with many threads, all of which are engaging and develop independently but also combine to form a whole. This whole is surprisingly engaging and entertaining. I had my doubts as it went along specifically because the relationship with Miguel seems to take turns with a speed and ease that is a little unconvincing, however somehow it makes it work and as it gets more intense I forgot the wider niggles I had and instead got caught up in the drama.

The multiple threads are a good part of this. Some of them are part of the central thread (the skinner murders and Deb's dealings with Anton for example) while the many others serve to flesh out the characters and add to the sense of involvement the viewer has in the show. This gives the show an additional strength in the range of characters that it has and that it uses. Deb is much more interesting than in previous seasons as her plot involves romance, ambition and also the suggested corruption of her partner (which I assume we'll return to, since it doesn't really go anywhere of note in this season. Likewise Angel has plenty going on that is engaging and makes you feel for the character, while Laguerta's threads tend to support the central plot well. Rita continues to be on the edge of the total plot but is better used this season due to the nature of the narrative. The cast respond accordingly. Of course Hall continues to be the star with his roundly excellent turn – producing a working killer from could just have been an obvious turn in lesser hands. Carpenter rises to the improved material and I really liked her and her character this season. Zayas, Velez, Remar, Lee and others are all good while Benz continues to do what she does but the material doesn't give her much more than the obvious. Smits is a very good addition to the cast and despite the stretch in the material he convinces because he makes his character as real as he can, so that everything that transpires seems natural – he also works very well with Hall, which is a another biggie.

Season 3 of Dexter is another strong season from this consistently entertaining and engaging show. The quibbles from season 2 are addressed or avoided here and generally this season is hard to fault. The introduction of a baby into a film or TV formula usually indicates that ideas are running out and that the writers are looking for something new to trigger ongoing plots but after this season I don't think this is the case here and I look forward to season 4 when I get it as season 3 certainly shows no signs of fatigue.

George King: You are lying. You do know where he is.
bombersflyup15 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Do You Take Dexter Morgan is about Dexter tying the knot and tying up loose ends.

A rather light episode for a season finale. I find Ramon Prado to be a weak character, he doesn't pose a threat to Dexter, as shown by the lack of questions asked when Ramon pulls a gun on him in front of everyone, he's just disregarded as a drunk psychotic. Considering Dexter was attacked by Doakes in front of everyone and involved in many other near death experiences. The fact that the characters around him can be so oblivious is a real problem that isn't addressed at this point in the series. Also does a character like Ramon never question what happens to Dexter in the future and look into it. George King was entertaining enough as a villain given the limited dialogue and screen time, I would of liked to have seen more of him, unfortunately Dexter dealt with him rather easily. The wedding is nice, in the finish to a great season of Dexter.

Season Three Review
southdavid30 December 2020
Season three of "Dexter" was the last one I watched as it aired, before house moves meant that I lost the channel that it was on. I think season three was perhaps a little stronger than season two, if the show is starting to ignore some of its own conceits already (nobody talks about Dexter being a drug user in this season at all).

Whilst hunting his latest victim, a drug dealer named Freebo (Mike Erwin), Dexter (Michael C Hall) gets into a fight and accidentally kills Oscar Prado (Nick Hermz) the brother of the Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits). As Miguel puts pressure on the Miami PD to find his brothers killer, he bonds with Dexter - a bond that will eventually go to some dark places. Meanwhile people with ties to Freebo are being tortured, skinned and murdered so Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) goes to an informant, Anton (David Ramsey) to see what he knows.

Admittedly, it's a stretch that Dexter would manage to find someone else in this city that see things his way - particularly someone in a position to make his life that much easier - but it's testament to the writhers and to Jimmy Smits that they manage to layer in enough to the character to make it feel plausible. The most implausible aspect about the season is actually that Batista manages to turn the vice detective into his girlfriend, despite her knowing that he's previously been consorting with prostitutes.

It's still an easy watch at this stage, the writing is a little funnier, with the voice over conceit starting to be more playful. Performances are good, none of the characters are particularly annoying - though I could perhaps have gone with a sharper introduction for Desmond Harrington's new detective. They all seem to act like he's always been there. Minor quibble though on what is pretty good stuff again.

Demented Daddy Dexter
dannylee-780823 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
1. Debra is officially shielded 2. Rita is still lying 3. Ramon is schooled

Not as explosive finale as others but not bad. It's finally good to see Dexter get married. He also seemed to have sorted out the (imaginary) relationship with Harry because at some point it acted like his alter ego. He looks like he's at peace with Dexter himself as an identity and the old Dexter. This season overall was rather weak because the main "killer" was hardly impactful. We had Miguel who definitely was charismatic but he was difficult to see him standing up to Dexter. However, I did like the further exploration of themes in regards to isolation, connection and acceptance. Everyone has secrets and flaws and we just accept each other despite them. Dexter, Rita, Angel, LaGuerta, Debra, Quinn,, every major character touched on this theme at least briefly.

Solid season. Let's see what season 4 brings.

Forth's the charm for me.
ImLilDark16 June 2022
A misleading title I know but I'm referring to the 4th time I'm watching Dexter, it's been over a decade since I first watched it and every sing freaking time it gets to me how amazing this show is.

The soundtracks are the ones that did it for me, from the beginning of the episode with the tragic scene till the end of the episode with the happy scene, it really gets to me everytime.

Can't wait to finish the show and watch the new one!

Season 3 Review
IPyaarCinema21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After a fantastic ending to the second season hopes were high for the third and yet again the writers and cast deliver. This time around the show focuses more heavily on Dexter's gradually character development and desire to be accepted by someone for who he really is.

This certainly makes season three different as many of the major developments involve Dexter's personal life but it is no less intense and and almost as entertaining as the first two seasons. Michael C. Hall's portrayal of the title character as he navigates through some very interesting territory is a pleasure. The rest of the cast shined brightly in season 3-although Batista's romance with the vice-cop seemed forced, and vanished as soon as the season ended.

S3.E12 - George King's End and Dex's Marriage [10/10] + SPOILERS
panagiotis199315 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 3 Episode 12 ''Do You Take Dexter Morgan?'' (S3. E12) - season finale: Episode 11 was awesome and I gave it a rating of 8.6/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Goodbye Miguel. Will Ramon be Dex's next victim? No. George King is following Dex? That's not good. So will Deb become a detective or no? She did, nice! I know she slept with a CI but come on... King is still free, I cant believe it. Oh boy King has Dex, that's not good, I want a ritual killing for King, sadly Dex didnt have the time for a ritual killing. Yeah Dex show him whats up! Syl is dealing with Miguel's death better than I expected. My boy Dex is getting married, im emotional right now. What a beautiful episode! 10/10.

season 3 is mediocre at best
eunbi05305 November 2021
Rewatching the series after a long while I felt like this season was mediocre.

Dexter is in the killing business for way over a decade now, he is a cautious guy, still why did he take Miguel's word when he was handed the bloodied shirt? Why did he fall for the obvious bait Miguel created when he wanted to make sure Dexter was a vigilante? Why was Dexter so rebellious towards Harry now? I mean we started of the season with Astor's drama on not being able to take her mum's wedding and the new baby, a pre teen crisis, that was completely ignored right after and the focus turned towards Dexter, now him being the rebellious one.

Also, there were too many hallucinations of Harry, maybe Dexter inner monologues on the previous 2 seasons were something people didn't like and that's why we got Harry's hallucination more often, but it got annoying too quickly.

So, my problem with this season are: how easily Dexter was tricked by Miguel and how often we get to see Harry making pointless dialogues, and that was easily 75% of the show.

There is also the whole Quinn thing being introduced out of nowhere that felt forced, but he only plays a minor role.
