Very Enjoyable Episode
abbyrd8819 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Though the murder in this episode was not as fascinating as others, the storyline following Booth, his brother, and their past was very interesting. Booth is my favorite character and I enjoyed seeing a humble, selfless side of him in this episode that really showed the great man that he is. Also good development between Booth and Bones who had their first real fight in this episode. If you are like me, you love to see the slow but definite development of a relationship between Bones and Booth and this episode had a lot of great moments between them. And we got to see Bones push Booth's brother off a stool which I greatly enjoyed. Overall this was a very enjoyable episode.

The better Booth
mitchrmp24 July 2016
This was another great episode. The crime story itself was a bit confusing, but I think that's because I was so focused on the rest.

Booth's younger brother is introduced in this episode. Jared needs a good dose of reality, but Booth has always taken care of him and sacrifices much to do so. Brennan begins to think that Booth is a loser (quite harsh, if you ask me); but is soon set straight on a few things. She and Booth have their first real fight, which causes a wedge between them through part of the episode. Brennan's eyes are opened, then she opens Booth's.

They make up over a piece of cake.

This was another sweet episode, though I was a bit disappointed in Brennan.

The Only 'Ex' I Care About are X-Rays
vampthropologist11 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This review is predominantly going to be me bashing Jared Booth, just so you know.

First of all, Jared is so low down on the Bones hot-guy scale, I have no clue what Brennan saw in him to make her so eager to go out with him.

The way Jared talks to Brennan about Booth at that party is so infuriating. "He's afraid of success" what are you on about? He's in his mid-30s and is head of major crimes at the FBI, I'd call that pretty successful. It's unbelievable that he has the audacity to say something like that, to his brother's partner no less, especially since Booth has a history of making sacrifices for him.

It is great, however, that we finally get a bit of back story for Booth and his childhood, especially since in the first 3 seasons, the only information we got was that he had a brother, his dad was a barber, and his mum wrote jingles, and that was all just in season 1.

I love a good bit of B&B angst and the scene of them after Booth interrogated Sikowitz from Victorious (can't remember his character's name) was just *chef's kiss*.

I'm really happy with the way they utilised Cam this episode. We haven't been told much about her relationship with Booth previous to season 2 so it was nice to know more about that and to have her be the conduit through which we find out about Booth's history.

Jared deserved a lot more than just a push off a chair from Brennan after what he did to Booth. I would've prefered for her to drop kick him and step on his throat like she did with that guy from 1x02, but I'll take what I can get.

Outside of the family drama, Clark is back!

Of course, every time he returns, he has to deal with getting caught up amongst the many inappropriate conversations which take place in the Jeffersonian every episode, and that gave the episode quite a bit of levity to balance the seriousness of some of it.

That first scene where we see Clark return is gold, and it's great that Hodgela's banter is still very much in tact post break-up.

Angela's 'Booth vs Booth Lite' explanation to Brennan was fantastic and her bluntness when it comes to these kinds of situations is always very much appreciated.

Brennan's speech at Booth's birthday party was perfect, and even, dare I say, tear-jerking. I love that she was able to convince Booth to let his brother deal with his own mistakes. I'm not sure how right Booth was to say that there's no risk Brennan's dad will kill again* but if that's what he needs tp believe in order to tell his brother to get his act together, I'll let it slide.

When Jared said that he "carries his own water" I wouldn't have blamed Booth if he punched him right in the face. It's truly astounding that he had the gall to say that after what Booth just did for him. Unbelievable.

Overall, despite my intense hatred of Jared, I still really liked the episode. 9/10

----- SPOILERS FOR SEASON 5 ONWARDS -----

*considering that in 5x21 Max tries to kill the Gravedigger and is then a suspect in 6x11 when she acually gets killed.

Boom! Double Booths. Booth and Booth lite.

Warning: Spoilers
Hi Bones Booth Podcast.

English Jan here!

I have a question for you. Why did no one check the Meth lab before the explosion? I'm pretty sure that before you blow something up, you have to check that no one is in the blast zone. That aside, here's my review.

Clark is back and looking mighty fine. He's very focused on work, or so he says, that is until Bone's comes in wearing that little black number (Dress). I love his comment. "Are you kidding me?" This is the first hint that Clark has a little thing for Bones.

Throughout this whole episode, Booth seems to look at Bones with a strange worried look on his face, even before his little brother turns up. This edgy look only intensifies after Jared arrives.

When Jared talks to Bones about Booth, the sibling jealously rears its ugly head, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To add insult to injury, Bones allows Jared to kiss her. This seems odd behaviour for Bones, as she knows that this will upset Booth if/when he finds out. That seems like something she would not want to do.

I love the conversation between Booth and Cam, showing their continued friendship, which is nicely echoed by the one Bones and Booth have in the observation room.

The lump in the throat award goes to...Bone's toast she makes at Booth's Birthday party.

I'm glad that Booth told Bones what he did for Jared.

Once again, the ending brings a smile to my face.

This is the first time we see Booth asking Bones for time.

The next time will be very interesting...

Warning: Spoilers
Lol we're gunna need a fire extinguisher and some kind of trauma counselor. I would love to go on a shark adventure! I'm sorry Clark you'll never get a strictly professional workplace at the Jeffersonian. The Booth family has some good looking genes. Sucks Booth has to give up his due credit so his brother could get away with a dui. Awwwww that toast from Bones was so sweet.

Great Booth Story
chadwick-869556 February 2024
Great episode of the qualities of Booth protecting his younger brother, Jared. The bull-headed Brennan decides that Booth is the lesser man, until she finally confronts Jared. Shows how much Brennan's respect for Booth goes. Cam was the one to make sense out of the issue, from her past experience with Booth.

Brennan doesn't have that respect for Booth. That lingers in the entire series. Booth has ethics (although rather static), and Brennan has "logic". When dealing with "logic", humans do have a possibly predictable pattern, but she is oblivious. Later in the series, it gets worse.

For some unknown reason, in one of the last scenes, Booth is holding a shotgun (not his typical pistol) and pointing it at the sheriff who is holding onto a hostage. A shotgun would be loaded with 6+ pellets of buckshot that would rip both people apart. In addition, the cocking of a hammer is heard ... the shotgun has no external hammer to cock. Rather disappointing error in firearms which is par for the course. The sheriff's body was hit by multiple pellets ... while he was driving ... only his head would have been a target from the back windshield. Ridiculous.

And Brennan criticizing Booth for protecting his brother. Gynocentricism at its finest. Yes, of course, she is "logical".

Booth Brothers, Etc.
Hitchcoc30 January 2023
This episode is sort of Bland. It begins with an planned explosion oof an RV used as a meth lab and the appearance of a decaying body. During the efforts to find out what the source of this is, we are introduced to Booth's brother, who is big and handsome and drinking himself into oblivion. The issue is he hides it well enough to move up the ranks in the Navy. We have an interesting problem for Booth because he is seen as the shy, withdrawn guy (since when). That said, it becomes obvious that on many occasions he has come to the rescue of his brother when he has committed transgressions. This leads to Brennan learning a big lesson about judging people.

Where are the great crime writers? Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler...? All these "writers" can come up with is soap opera and socio/political agenda.

Warning: Spoilers
I watch 21st century crime shows to see crime stories.

It's slim pickings.

Shows are more about lgbtq and soap opera "romance" than crime solving.

Plotting is lame and usually puntuated by a lame "twist" at the end that everyone figured out early on.

There is one quirky item of interest however.

As the show starts, see how long before the agenda item's wierd head pops up.

And there it is...didn't take long.

I liked Angela in the early going, but, the Fiji fiasco and the Roxy fiasco terminally diminished Angela.

What will be the agenda item be next episode?

Can hardly wait.
