holy cliffhanger
Calicodreamin11 January 2021
Not as many questions answered in the final episode of chapter one as I would have liked, but definitely left a cliffhanger. Good acting and cinematography, decent storyline development. Abrupt ending.

I enjoyed this episode and have some pretty dramatic tension and that was a pretty nice episode. The end want us to see the season 2 of Lupin. The end let us with a big cliffhanger and it sound good for the next.

Viewers Should Pay More Attention

Warning: Spoilers
There is nothing wrong with the plot. The train goes to Le Havre, not Entretat. It isn't clear how they get from Le Havre to Entretat (ca 30 km), probably by rental car or taxi. The gendarmerie all have smart phones - it only takes seconds for them to call between Paris and Le Havre. Le Havre is a big port town or city. There are flics everywhere and a permanent contingent at the railroad station.

The bad guy is working for one of the richest and most influential people in France - he should be able to get a car immediately if not sooner, n'est ce pas vrai?

Ignore the bad reviews.

This is a marvelous series to watch. Superb acting. Amazing plot. Entertaining and fun to watch. As a Lupin fan, I loved it.

Ignore the negative reviews about plot holes. Some people just see the black dot in a white board and keep whining about it. Ignore them too.

Chapter 5
Prismark105 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Chapter 5 sees Assane taking his son Raoul to a birthday trip on the coast.

It seems to be some kind of Lupin convention.

Things are not so straightforward for Assane though. He is being followed by Pellegrini's henchman.

Somehow the verve and wit that that the earlier episodes of Lupin had is lacking in the later ones.

It would had been better if the Pellegrini story was wrapped up in this episode.

Unfortunately as its the case with these streaming services. The story will drag on over future instalments.

Part One Review
southdavid26 April 2022
Something else from the Guardian's Top TV of 2021 was Netflix's French Drama "Lupin" - specifically Part two, but I hadn't started it at all yet. So, I did. It's never quite as fun again as its first episode for me, but it's a cool, smart series that even if it hadn't ended on a cliffhanger, I would be back for.

Assane Diop (Omar Sy) is a Parisian thief, who uses his wits and charm to evade capture in the style of his hero, Arsene Lupin, the Gentlemen thief of early 1900's literature. His father seemingly took his own life, when Assane was a child, having been convicted of stealing a necklace from Hubert Pellegrini (Herve Pierre) a wealthy industrialist. Decades later, Assane is given a chance at the very same prize but he soon discovers that the Pellegrini's are more dangerous than he believed.

Lots to admire, from the first episode especially. The "Sherlock" comparisons are obvious. A contemporised version of a classic character - the first episode sees him commit the crime and utilises flashbacks to reveal truths and information that we weren't previously made aware of. It never quite matches that level of wit again. Assane remains adept at sleight of hand and with a gift of the gab, but his disguises involving hair and makeup are generally unconvincing and, perhaps most importantly, the plot of the series kicks in pretty firmly, stopping us from getting to know the character a little better via another clever heist.

Which is not to say that I didn't enjoy it, much of which can be laid at the feet of the charismatic Omar Sy, who has flirted with stardom before with roles in "Jurassic World" and in "X-Men: Day's of Futures Past". I breezed through this first five episodes in a few days and will probably crack on with the next five before too much longer. I just perhaps we'd languished in some adventures a little more, before powering on with the main story.

Sick of these stupid plot holes
raheeb-5958813 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The season is full of stupidity and plot holes in every episode which is very hard to ignore.

On top of that the ending is pathetic. So the guy gets arrested leaves jail gets a car somehow and he happens to know exactly where to go to kidnap the kid!! Seriously? And how did Yousef find out where Lupen is? And if he was watching him how couldn't have he seen the kid get snatched?

Stupid.

No Resolution
Hitchcoc9 October 2023
The season ends without things taken care of. If anything, they have gotten worse. Also, the stupidity of actions goes right back to the scriptwriters. I know that sometimes these kinds of shows push the boundaries of reality, but once again, the villain seems to be supernatural. He gets arrested, released, and is back at the beach where Raoul is in a matter of minutes as the rest of the gang go by train and so on and so forth. I would love to like this show, but now it is almost silly in the carelessness of the plot. Will Season Two get us back to some semblance of cause and effect. To say this guy is like Lupin is really not giving much credit to that literary figure.

Plot holes...
simatoscostas7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Glaring plot holes throughout the entire season, even moreso in the final episode. Good production value and Omar Sy is a pleasure to watch but you need to detach your brain to watch this series.

So you're saying it's based on the Arsène Lupin character
shedid_amr914 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The issue is not about catching him.

It's that his plan is so weak it's impossible not to catch him. i

When you analyze the plots and the events it doesn't seem like Lupin is a genius. It just looks like everyone surrounding him is stupid.

The last episode was ridiculous

Come on the writers really went there? That was pretty infuriating also the assassin being let off so easily as he would not be given the authorization to carry a firearm in public, and the police was there after the text message! Really....

Not even Omar Sy can save it
luismrcastro23 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So I pretty much watched the show because of Omar Sy, but this finale was terrible.

I think enough people here have pointed out the plot holes. None of it makes sense if you think for a second.

I might try next season if there is one, but it'll have to be good.
