Explanation approach to all the reviewers that claim, Dark would now violate its own rules
petrucciation3 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can understand, that with the second part of seasons 3, viewers are now confronted to a new kind of complexity quality that might lead to confusion. With the introduction of a possible path separation, it looks like superdeterminism isn't the major Dark rule any longer and there might be space left for free decisions with uncertain development. But please watch carefully! This episode and the following one(s) try to explain, why this is a possible fallacy likely. Actually at least until this episode, superdeterminism is saved due to the fact, that the event cycle is not a simple circle any longer, it's at least a (multi-) loop. There is no deus ex machina or writer's magic daemon here. All events within the presented worlds also depend on the events of the opposite one(s). That's a genius step of the authors, never seen before on television and in SciFi genre before I'd say. This is brilliant consistency, brought to a new level of narration.

But, without having seen the finale yet, I think, the aspect of free will and decision will play a major role yet, but certainly in a way, that is again consistent to what we've seen so far.

Pain and tears
dami30011 July 2020
The pain grow across the episode, across the characters. Tears covers every little shadow. The lights are gone. Now everything is dark, in every shade.

Some strange reviews here!!
arra-330193 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Here people are saying they are getting complex and just fill gaps with no sense. Please watch the series carefully then critise it. They gave us the two realities since season one. Just pay attention to small details and you will know that. They wrote the whole plot then give it to us not writing sperately

Explain "Eva's army" Motives
naegnata30 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When the end was beginning there were people - "Army of Eve" . Eve told them some things they must to do. We know about young Martha , she must to born the origin. older Martha received for stranger Jonas (the letter from Martha) . But there were others too. First we see Klaudia , which was the bridge of world A's Klaudia (beacuse Klaudia was one important reason for Jonas improvement) , there were Bartozsh who was responsible to stopped Martha ( There were two times . one he couldn't stop and one he stopped that's one became Eve) . Also there were Agon and we see that he came to Hannah. It was complex and we don't know why it just happend. but it was important , beacuse Hannah's child must be Silja , who is mother of Agnes and Noah (two of them are really important). And Noah came to Elisabeth , because Charlottes role in here was bigger too. (She was the one who went in Nuclear Power Plant with Aleksander ) . It is important that if Charloote didn't exist Tenhauss will make other time machine like he did in origin world , because Charlotte was the reason why he stop thinking about time machine (the time machine we saw in origin world). And there won't be just 3 worlds , there will be binary tree (A tree whose elements have at most 2 children). So I liked this episode because everything is connected.

They didn't break their own rules!!
catpizzi24 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For a moment I thought that things had changed when they killed Jonas but with this episode they proved that they didn't break their own rules. The parallel realities thing is simply brilliant when you put all the pieces together.

I hope Dark hasn't jumped the shark
petewood-599512 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love Dark. I think it's one of the best, if not the best, science fiction shows ever made. But I'm starting to wonder if they aren't dragging things out a little bit too much just for the sake of playing mind games with us viewers. The first two seasons of Dark had rules. The rules appear to be gone. If they can kill Jonas and somehow he's still alive, I think the writers aren't playing fair. Science is gone and mumbo jumbo has taken its place. The first two seasons had a certain fatalistic logic. This episode is not horrible, but it's a mess. I'm really getting sick of the three nameless goons. They got the mayor to sign the building permit for the plant at gunpoint. Um, okay. I'm sure that would hold up in a court of law. I'm sure the coal companies wouldn't raise hell. But, today was the first instance of pure idiot plot. The goons just walk into the power plant and mess with the controls, because they have the master key. Yeah, right. No security at nuclear power plants especially 7 years after three mile island. Give me a break. I hope the next two episodes are better.

Light and Shadow
jaberadam-7280829 May 2021
For the first time, I feel the complexity of the series that some of my friends who recommended this series talk about. I've made fun of them all this time, well I'm sorry. Some people think that this episode violated the rules, but you are mistaken because you did not understand the events well. Eva sent an army to repeat the cycle after the end of the world. She sent Egon to rescue the daughter of Hannah, who would become Bartoche's wife, Noah's mother, and Agnes, thus repeating the cycle again. Eva sent Noah to rescue Elizabeth, who will become his wife and the mother of Charlotte, thus repeating the cycle. Eve sends the elder Bartosh to rescue the younger Bartosh because he will marry Hannah's daughter, and he will become the father of Noah and Agnes, thus repeating the cycle.

Some ask who is Hannah's daughter? She is the same girl who is with Adam and Elizabeth in the future, and she is the one who put Marta into the cage and helped Jonas in the second season to escape. Eve sent the middle Marta to give the message to the middle Jonas, who will carry it with him until he becomes Adam after 33 years and pass it on to the middle Jonas on the day of the end of the world. Adam thinks that if he kills Marta, he will end everything, but he does not know what happened with Jonas, it may also happen with Marta, and therefore there is another Marta who did not come into this world and she is Eve, of course this is just a possibility, but let's see what will happen in the next episodes.

I don't know how to feel about this
rk-6032829 June 2020
At this point we all understand that no matter what nothing will happen. no one can change anything but then what's the point of all this. The thing with Quantum Entaglement is too much i think. They are making it way too complex. But anyways i enjoyed it.

Brilliant! I have absolutely no idea what is going on!
eulogist18 August 2021
I love this show but it is becoming a parody of itself.

We should have a drinking game where you take a shot every time someone runs in and says "Stop! They all lied to you! They don't want you to stop the apocalypse! If you do the thing you'll be the cause of it!"

All light will fade!
and_mikkelsen27 June 2023
This show only seems to get darker as we approach the series finale!

This episode gave off a feeling of hopelessness! Like there is nothing you can do to prevent the inevetable fates of the characters! In an attempt to prevent what has been foreseen, you end up causing it!

This episode was very emotional cause you get some honest and human moments with the characters! I feel like i have to praise how well written the characters are as well as how good the actors are! It deserves as much praise as the show itself!

Now I can not wait for the end, although i fear for what might happen.. in a good way!

Magic do overs
jimmietee23 June 2021
All this time watching the show just to find out they get magic do overs. I was worried about it being nonsense when the device was never built just passed from someone who had it to someone who didn't. Now we find out killing Martha will not kill the fetus because magic do over. And Adam/Jonas is alive because magic do over.

What a disappointment. It is just an alternate version of the cliche "it was just a dream. Nothing counts"

You already saw old Bartosz in S2E1 with young Noah, do you remember?
Neptune16520 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We have actually seen the middle-aged Bartosz before. He was the guy in the first scene of season 2 who dug the tunnel into the cave in the nineteen twenties together with young Noah. The one Noah killed afterwards with a pickaxe. The Martha that gets the scar (not the one on the cheek) is the one that doesn't save Jonas before the apocalypse. The one that Adam kills at the end is the one that saves Jonas before the apocalypse. The Jonas that travels to alt-world is the one that dies, and the one who stays becomes Adam. The Martha that's led by Magnus and Francesca at the end is potentially about to unknowingly continue the loop and split. It's super trippy because, like Eva said, the cycle repeats itself, regardless of the split. We see the middle aged Adam World Bartosz in the first episode of the second season. The opening scene. In terms of couples I rekon Magnus/Franziska are one of the least toxic couples. Certainly the Eve editions. The Adam world Magnus is a bit of a creep when he sneakily follows Franziska around and then accuses her of whoring herself. After making it past that major relationship speedhump they stick together for the next 40 years. Slightly off topic but it's the winter rain season here so all the rain in DARK seems fitting at the moment. Yes, Hannah miscarries and Egon saves her from the apocalypse. In this world Hannah didn't travel back to 1954 herself because Mikkel and Ulrich didn't get missing and Jonas didn't exist to give her the time machine. But somehow she has to get impregnated by Egon to preserve the family tree. Stranger-Martha is leaving behind items that Adam later gives Noah to hand out: Young Noah gives this letter to Stranger-Jonas in 2020 who carries it to 1888 and then burns it. Adult Noah gives the watch to Elisabeth in 2019. At times Charlotte has it but in the end Elisabeth carries it through the apocalypse.

Well one of the Martha's has the scar that Eva gave her. So that is distinguishing her from her younger counterpart... and from her other counterpart that is not yet completely explained.

I found it rather odd that certain characters are not seen on both sides. Agnes and Silja are not seen in Eve's world and therefore one has to assume that they meet their respective partners "naturally". Just like Egon met Hannah in Adam's world and like young Noah already met Elisabeth without being sent back from after the apocalypse.

Worst Episode in the Series so Far
kristi23743 July 2020
Things are becoming very repetitive and the timeline is all over the place. Not a big fan of this episode. It feels like filler. I am not a huge fan of the new world either.

Light and shadow

For the first time I feel the complexities of this show. Everything is starting to come together with so many plot twists, and it is satisfying. I still have mixed feelings about this because of how confusing everything is. With this episode, it's almost impossible to follow what is happening.

An Experience
Hitchcoc5 December 2023
I've come to the realization that this is more than a mini-series. While it is episodic it also exists in other dimensions. This is like viewing a painting over a period of years. The painting doesn't move but the mind and soul of the observer are engaged differently with each viewing. We have no idea how all the forces work. What we have are inroads into the human spirit and the human mind. Someone is pulling the levers and causing great pain an serous angst and despair. Right now I don't know who the good guys are; who the bad guys are; or whether it matters or not. The world ends at the conclusion of this episode, so what is left.

Complex episode with some key plot moments
snoozejonc12 May 2024
This is a difficult one to rate because there is a lot going on and so much information to process.

I understand why some people struggle, because unless you are comfortable with some of the sci-fi concepts portrayed it can feel quite incoherent. The writers apply a certain well known scientific paradox to the sci-fi concepts to help portray certain events. It works well for the convenience of the plot, but it is quite mind boggling. From here on it is hard to get invested in the fate of any characters as who knows what reveal will come next.

Whilst watching it for the first time I admit to having problems processing how every event connects and the depiction of multiple versions of characters, but when I reflect on the episode after rewatching (with the aid of a family tree and notes) I can see how the writers have created a plot that makes sense, but is a challenge to keep up with.

As always the acting by all cast is superb, with Lisa Vicari standing out in this one.

The production values are absolutely superb. In this episode there is some top drawer audiovisual spectacle that is very memorable.
