A pretty good one!

The first episode of "Roadkill" was good, but not great for me. I thought the journalism angle of the story was not very well done. The second episode is fortunately a bit better than the previous one. It is still not great, but fares very well indeed.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual for the show. The acting is pretty good for the most part. Hugh Laurie fits the part so well, Olivia Vinall, who I don't always like, gives one of her best performances here. Sylvestra Le Touzel is, agreed, quite good too.

. The story has intrigue, is well-paced and has moments of intensity- especially towards the end (with Charmian getting killed).

But...

. The journalism angle of the story is still quite weak. Charmian is such an unrealistic character. She is the type, who does not understand why everyone is saying she's incompetent though she definitely is. The scenes with her are just not that interesting. The actress is not bad, it's just her naiive character, which is the problem.

Overall, liked it, but did not love it.

8/10 HK.

Episode 2

I thought the second episode was also rather old fashioned, implausible and flat.

Like writer David Hare was stuck in second gear and looking for inspiration.

However there were two car crashes and maybe Roadkill is the literal title of the show.

Peter Laurence does become the new Justice Secretary. He has rather radical non Tory views like too many people get locked up in prison. A view that the Prime Minister is not happy with.

Laurence is not happy to find out from the newspapers that her daughter is taking drugs. His daughter is not happy with her dad's affair.

Meanwhile over in America Charmian Pepper finds about Laurence's dodgy dealings a little too easily.

Maybe the car crashes are a literal swerve that gives the series some genuine twists and turns that it badly needs.

Very engaging drama.

I enjoyed the first episode, I loved the second. The first episode, though good, was a little static in parts, the energy and intensity is ramped up here.

Peter seems to have covered up a lot of stuff about his past and very recent present. The question is, how far has he gone to cover up his dealings, was he linked to the riot? Just how dysfunctional is The Laurence family?

It's very slick, fast paced, and as it progresses, action packed, one smash is dramatic enough......

I'm hooked, Laurie is outstanding, I thought Sylvestra le Touzel was brilliant as always.

Excellent, 9/10.
