Jazz singer Nancy Wilson appears as Ginger's mother Ivy and the two perform a duet together. Gail Edwards also sings in this episode and sounds much better than she did singing that sappy song in Season 5's "Healings, Nothing More Than Healings".
We get more of Ginger's backstory here. It's just too bad they waited so long to give the character some depth. The scene where Ginger defends her job against Ivy actually has a lot of heart - something we didn't see that often in the syndicated era.
Not a lot of laughs here. The funniest part is seeing Nancy's righteous indignation because she was disqualified - her orchid was "on steroids".
Slightly above-average for the season thanks to some good character moments.
