It has been ten years since EuroTrip, riding the raunchy teen comedy revival of the late ’90s and early naughts, burst into theaters and exposed an entire generation of teens to a beach full of dangling male genitalia. And even a decade later, those involved with the cult classic are still proud of it — every sex organ included.
At least, that was the vibe taken away from the audience Wednesday night in Hollywood, where cast members Scott Mechlowicz (“Scotty”), Jacob Pitts (“Cooper”), Michelle Trachtenberg (“Jenny”), Travis Wester (“Jamie”) joined producers Jeff Schaffer, Alec Berg, and David Mandel and several others for a Q&A session.

Not even the draw of Boyle's opening ceremony could stop The Dark Knight Rises from becoming this year's fastest growing film
Back in early 2009, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire created a challenge for rival awards-hopefuls such as Frost/Nixon and Milk by sucking all the air out of the market. Two years later, Boyle's 127 Hours might have done a bit better had it not faced stiff competition from fellow Oscar contenders The King's Speech and Black Swan. Now Boyle is once again in the competitive mix, with his highly praised Olympics opening ceremony drawing 23m viewers on Friday night on BBC1, and a peak of 27m.
Cinema grosses were affected, although variations between films were significant. Family films, which don't attract many viewers in the late-evening slot occupied by the opening ceremony, saw fairly even distribution of box office across the three days of the weekend, with Friday benefiting from being a school holiday.

It’s Friday, so you know what that means – another round-up of what films are hitting cinemas this weekend. With The Dark Knight Rises dominating the UK box office last week it seems no-one wants to put up a challenge to Christopher Nolan’s dark hero as only The Lorax is on a wide release this week. Just in time for the start of the summer holidays!
Nationwide Releases The Lorax
Dr. Seuss’ classic, environmentally themed children’s book comes to the big screen in this tale of a young boy who encounters a cantankerous forest creature after venturing outside of his artificial city in search of a tree. Ted (voice of Zac Efron) lives in a town where nothing is quite as it appears; everything is plastic, including the plants. Hopelessly smitten by the beautiful Audrey (voice of Taylor Swift), who dreams of one day seeing a real tree,...

Between his wild-eyed antics onscreen and his even zanier personal life off, Nicolas Cage has been a source of infinite jest for his three-decade career, but what drives the man in all his eccentric pursuits?
Turns out it's a friendly puppeteer by the name of Glen Soziak, who's been wearing the "Nicolas Cage costume" all this time, at least according to semi-reliable The Onion News Network.
This hilarious faux news magazine interview with Soziak in conjunction with his book "Life Inside the Cage" is so crazy we almost expect to see Cage inside the Soziak costume.
The man talks about what drove him to create such a wacky character and what drives him to keep pushing the envelope more and more with every performance or weird purchase. Check out the video below and get a load of him doing a pretty spot-on Cage voice.

When a Ghost Rider sequel was announced, most people wondered why. Moviegoers must have been asking the same question judging by the film's middling box office receipts this weekend. Poor Nic Cage might have to sell his soul to Satan to get another hit movie at this point.
The good news for the producers of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is that their sequel/semi-reboot only cost about half of the 2007 original’s $110 million budget. The bad news is it opened in 3rd place to less than half what its predecessor took in its opening weekend. $22 million for 3 days, and that’s even factoring in inflated 3D ticket prices. Compare that to the $47 million the original pulled in, and you get what Box Office Mojo describes as “a nearly unprecedented drop for a sequel.”
Then again, by all reported accounts, the only reason this Ghost Rider sequel even came into...

[1] Ruth Wilson will be breaking into the boys' club as the female lead of Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger, starring Armie Hammer as the Texas ranger and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto. Although Wilson's name may be unfamiliar to most Americans, she's known in the UK for her work on the BBC's Luther and the Masterpiece Theatre miniseries Jane Eyre. Wilson was selected over Jessica Chastain and Abbie Cornish, who were also being considered for the part, and is currently in negotiations. Very few details have been revealed about her character, named Rebecca. Unlike the earlier versions of the property, Verbinski's Lone Ranger will be told from Tonto's perspective -- "Don Quixote told from Sancho Panza’s point of view," as Verbinski has described [2] it. The film will hit theaters December 21 [3]. [Deadline [4]] After the jump, B.J. Novak joins The Dictator opposite Sacha Baron Cohen a.k.a. Borat, and...

Ghostlight Records has released the official Broadway cast recording album of the musical Catch Me If You Can. While we usually don’t cover stage musical productions on this page, it’s worth mentioning because of the involvement of film composer Marc Shaiman who wrote the music for the project alongside lyricist Scott Wittman (Hairspray). The album includes 17 songs from the musical. Check out the audio clips below for a preview of all tracks. The digital version is now available to download on Amazon and a physical CD will be released on June 28 and can be pre-ordered here. Catch Me If You Can is adapted from the 2002 film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. The musical is currently playing on Broadway and was recently nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Outstanding Orchestrations. For more information on the musical, visit the official Broadway site.

I heart Palm Springs! Why not? It's my hometown :happy
And I equally heart the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films! Honestly, I like this better than the bloated International Film Fest in January. Why? Because this is more about the craft of filmmaking than the celebrities.
Also, the Short Fest is a good predictor of the Oscars for Best Short Film. So pay attention to the winners, and then next year, take a look at the nominees. Chances are, you'll hear about them again at the Oscars!
The 2009 Palm Springs International ShortFest award winners are:
Jury Awards
Best of Festival, "The Dinner" (Vacsora), Karchi Perlmann
Future Filmmaker Award, Katie Wolfe, "This is Her"
Panavision Grand Jury Award, "Jonathan's Home," Nathanael Carton
Audience Awards
Live Action Short, "Dandelion Dharma," Veronica Dipippo
Documentary Short, "Claiming the Title: Gay Olympics On Trial," Jonathan Joiner, Robert H. Martin
Animation Short, "Lost and Found,...
