Bright Lights Big S*****
dakawales17 January 2021
Who designed the graphics for the opening titles and the caption for the contestants, very fancy, too fancy, the gold lame jacket effect is a flop, my eyes sight is fine, admittedly with glasses, my TV is quite is fairly new, 4k 43" in a not very big room, so the clarity is good just difficult to make out the captions.

Lighting? Is the lighting designer, the person on the big bucks not the lighting operator, trying to out do Strictly with the binders, the colours used in the lighting for the opening group dance really did prove how good my TV is, thank you LG, but with the LED ground row blinders, the LED Wall the Moving Heads and the overhead wash's spoilt just made the skaters disappear in the light, the same happens when during the contestants individual routine there a "MOVE" up come the blinders, the MH's LED wall andto top it a gerb or four do we really need PYRO!

But to give credit were credit is due, for the professionals at the end, the lighting toned down for effect was good, sufficient fog not to cover the footwork, the camera close to introduce the pro couple then full length shot so we can see what they are doing, isn't that the point, that is where Strictly go very wrong, to much time in close up so we don't see the fancy footwork the spent all that time trying to perfect, so please do follow Strictly on that.

The judges, wouldn't be Dancing on ice with T & D, Ashley, well head some interesting things to say and as for Barrowman, just stop shouting, by the time he has finished sucking up I have lost interest in what he has to say, yes we know T & D are quiet, stop going over the top.

ITV continue to flog a dead horse
studioAT18 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Whether it is by choice or lack of better options (I suspect the latter) ITV persevere with 'Dancing on Ice', a show that peaked about ten years ago, believing that if they keep touting it as 'The Greatest Show on Ice' then someone, somewhere might be convinced.

And what a sad state of affairs it is, a waste of Torvil and Dean, as well as the sparkling chemistry between Holly and Phil.

While I'm sure Jason Donovan, Colin Jackson and Denise Van Outen are nice people, they've had many a go at this reality TV game (notably Strictly), and if they didn't give them the career boost they clearly are hoping for, then I don't hold out much hope that this will.

We've seen everything this series has to offer, even the golden ticket element is a rip off of BGT, but ITV continue to persist with the format, in an excruciating two hours a week prime-time slot I'm not sure it has any right to command any longer.

The two best moments were a brief moment of spontaneity between Holly and Phil, and Rufus Hound getting in a dig against the Tories.

Other than that this was weak indeed.
