Heart chase

After the gorgeous animated film "How Cossacks Played Football", which naturally became the favorite of the Soviet public, director and screenwriter Vladimir Dakhno decided to pause for a while in the development of the trio of invincible Zaporozhtsevs and tried to create completely different scenes. "Eighth Day, or First Lesson of Thinking", as well as "Tooth Story" turned out to be quite strong cartoons, but they could not overshadow Kazakov's public consciousness, and therefore the leadership of Kievnauchfilm asked Vladimir Dakhno to return to the best moments of his work and again lead the adventure Tura, Graya and Oka, which the fans have already missed. For the script of the new tape, which was called "How the Cossacks of Brides Helped Out," this time only Vladimir Kapustian answered, with whom Dakhno fruitfully worked on the creation of football adventures, and therefore fully trusted. The maestro himself limited himself to the duties of a director, understanding that some texts are ideal from the beginning, and unnecessary intervention by the author of the project can only harm them. The new cartoon was released back in 1973 and also, like the previous part, instantly turned into a classic of the genre, once again drawing public attention to Ukrainian culture and opening for many viewers some of which features from the life of the Ukrainian people, especially attractive to male viewers.

So, the plot of the film begins with a far from the most pleasant incident. A team of pirates led by "Napoleon" sailed on his frigate on the seas and oceans, and then came their turn to walk along the Dnieper in search of something special. After inspecting the nearby land with a telescope, the captain saw the greatest value that can exist - beautiful Ukrainian women who let wreaths on the water. Unable to resist the beauty of the girls, the pirates descend to the shore and kidnap them, taking them into the far distance. The only ones who can rescue the beauties from captivity are our old familiar Cossacks - Gray, Tur and Oko, who were lying on their favorite mountain, rested as if out of the blue to them came the news that their brides had been taken away brutal gangsters. For a long time, the heroes did not hesitate and set off in a swift chase in their modest sailing boat, which was clearly not keeping pace with the high-speed pirates ship. However, the Cossacks are not accustomed to retreat from their intended goal, struggling to catch up with the pirate frigate. And when the hour of the decisive battle struck, they realize that it would be at least silly to openly oppose a gang armed to the teeth. The Cossacks traditionally use ingenuity, circling around the finger of arrogant pirates, from whom half the world has already suffered ...

As in the past cartoon, "Like Cossacks played football," Vladimir Dakhno again sends his heroes on a kind of journey around the world. And if earlier the Cossacks were just playing football with rivals, then this time their goals are much more serious - saving beauties from foreign captivity. Such a plot is very closely intertwined with the true Ukrainian history. All sorts of conquerors, more than once coming to the Zaporozhian Sich and roundabout territories, took Ukrainian girls as wives. Of course, against the will of the latter. It is impossible to count how many beautiful women were stolen from the country by dishonest villains, making them not only their wives, but also concubines, as well as slaves. These not-so-funny facts firmly settled down in history books, forever leaving an unhealing wound in the soul of the people ... However, constant sadness cannot bring anything good. Vladimir Dakhno more than anyone else realized this and quite sensibly reasoned that some historical facts can be used to create a beautiful illustration of the historical for children and adults. Only this time without unnecessary tragedy and crying, after all, a nation that can perceive a tragedy with a smile on its face is invincible.

It is quite interesting to watch while watching how a trio of Cossacks becomes practically the savior of the whole world in view of the insolvency of the West in the face of real danger. But at the same time, the creators of the cartoon could not only laugh at the representatives of various nations, but also revealed the peculiarities of their cultures in all the caricature details. After the pirates left the banks of the Dnieper, they went not to somewhere, but to ancient Greece. And at that moment, when the captain looks through a telescope, we see the peculiarities of life of the old inhabitants. As for Greece, it is presented to us as a country in which the dominant position is occupied by the culture of an ideal physique. In addition, the ancient Greeks are idle, relaxing to the music and sculpting their statues in their spare time from unnecessary work. It is quite clear that Vladimir Dakhno exaggerated his historical stay, but he did it very nicely and resourcefully.

The further narrative is transferred to Ancient Egypt, whose image was drawn according to ancient hieroglyphs and Egyptian engravings in profile. The country of the Gods and Pharaohs is also presented in the original style. We see that Egyptian favorite pets are sphinxes, and the residents themselves are not averse to drinking cooling milk from specialized vending machines. Also, the whole architecture of Egypt is tied to the pyramids, including even the hump shape of a camel ... For a long time the plot here also does not linger and takes us to a new place of action - India.

Having dealt with the Greeks and Egyptians, the pirates finally wanted to profit from the values of the Hindus. True, before this, we once again enjoy the hilarious aspects of culture performed by Vladimir Dakhno. India is presented to us as a country in which yoga occupies a leading position in all aspects of life. Hindus can do it for days, if not for weeks. In their enthusiasm for the ancient magic arts, they also achieved serious heights, and in an instant they can rejuvenate an elderly grandmother to a young girl. Only now all the Eastern practices are powerless before Napoleon and his team.

The final events of the cartoon unfold in the middle of the ocean, where there is a lonely stone island, on top of which there is a small house where villains live. The creators of the cartoon survived the style of their offspring until the very end and presented the lair of pirates as the abode of the eternal holiday. Music, tobacco, and a lot, a lot of rum - without all this, it is impossible to imagine the rest of the average seabass. Pirates walk, not sparing anyone, however, they have their weaknesses. This time, beautiful Ukrainian women seduce the formidable robbers and, with the help of Gray, Tura and Oka, finally escaping freedom, become their evil fate.

As a result, I want to say that "How the Cossacks Helped the Brides" is a magnificent cartoon that quite naturally turned into an indestructible classic of "Kiev Nauchfilm". This is a great entertainment for the whole family, which has not become obsolete for more than a dozen years, and I can say with confidence that the urgency of the adventures of the invincible trio will not end for a long time.

Cossacks vs. Pirates
Horst_In_Translation13 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"Kak kazaki nevest vyruchali" is another Cosack-themed short film by director Vladimir Dakhno and writer Vladimir Kapustyan. This one may be the longest at 19 minutes, but unfortunately, it is also probably the least entertaining. The Cossacks are in charge of saving a bunch of damsels in distress from evil pirates. As evil as they can be in a comedy animated short film that is. Overall, I lacked the comedy and the smart cultural references from the other films in here. It is not a bad film by any means, but maybe the weakest from the series. Lacks charm and humor for the most part and overall, I do not recommend this almost 45-year-old film. Or just watch in the event that you really love all the others.
