Should've Gone For The Castanets
slak96u25 March 2022
This series is truly unique, compelling, and disturbing...

Finally the story moves along at something past a walk. I appreciate plot development, but it felt like the wheels were spinning a bit, not to say the series isn't enjoyable, it truly is. The MDE scene was FANTASTIC, just perfectly weird and intense, awesome use of color and music. The whole cast just killed it. I got a strange flashback to Lost at certain points, which was completely surprising and oddly fulfilling. A little ::ghasp:: at the end.

In a word, the best way I would describe this series is tone, tonally this series just works. On so many levels, from the score, cinematography, color pallet, to the dialog and acting, all of it...it really is fantastic. Reminiscent of The Leftovers, where all facets of the program seem to be in tune, it really is satisfying to see.

My favorite episode thus far.

Revisit: from ~20:20 "Good day refiners" to ~26:33 "The Musical Dance Experience is officially canceled" is easily the best scene of 2022. If there was an Emmy for Best Scene Trammell Tillman would have won it.

Plotline Pivot Point, an Excellent Eventful Episode.
bosporan25 March 2022
What a fabulous episode, so much going on for both the 'innies' and the 'outies'. Many challenging philosophical and ethical questions are addressed. The rights of the innies regarding their death/deletion, 'over-hours' activation and visibility of their external relationships. Outside, Mark's unravelling reveals the arrangement is not allowing his bereaved 'outie' to develop meaningful new relationships. This latter point is amplified by the final scene reveal, opening up wider moral questions.

This is skilfully shown through fine writing of the concrete plotline - the security chief, the girlfriend and Burt's fate. These are driving the increasing belligerence of the innies, both verbally and with violence.

TV at its absolute finest.

Absolutely Generational Television.

Wow. What ? I have goosebumps writing this. What. An. Episode.

Episode starts off fast, and it never lets up. The cinematography, the suspense, absolutely flawless. 2 sides of a coin, trying desperately to coincide. 3 stars of the Episode go to Mark, Milcheck, and IRVING!! This show is about to be littered with Emmy's.

That was quite the episode! Cliffhanger ending.
winstonsmith_8425 March 2022
Wow, what an episode. Resolves much of what happened in the last episode yet we are thrown a new curve ball at the very ending shot. What could this mean? I don't know but I'm definitely tuning in next time to find out. This show is so unsatisfying but in a good way. You're always given just enough crumbs and clues to work with... like an expensive French meal, you leave the restaurant still hungry for more.

more answers and more spooks!
braininacat26 March 2022
This show just got a whole lot more scary! With the cliff hanger from the last episode I was really excited to see what they were going to do with it and they did SO MUCH! You can really feel the suspense build in this episode as the stress the characters are all feeling finally leads to a breaking point and we get to see them start to take some real action to conquer there situation. This is quickly turning into one of the more fascinating shows I have ever seen.

My Favorite Episode Up to This Point!
timbirtv26 March 2022
There are a lot of great twists and turns in this episode and I'm not just talking about the hallways. Great suspense and intrigue. Beautifully directed with wonderful performances. You can really feel it ramping up for a conclusion to this first season that will likely stick the landing given how much thought has been put into the story thus far

It is truly a breath of fresh air. There needs to be a second season!

ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER!!!!
gariochsam26 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show has now (after seven episodes) become my favourite show since DEVS(Alex Garland) purely based on how mysterious it is. Every iota of its being has such substance and now after this reveal at the end of the episode (MARK S's WIFE IS WHO?!!!!!) and FULLY here for however it's going to unravel itself. Absolutely top notch writing and the performances to match. Adam Scott is perfectly cast. Big recommendations to anyone unsure about delving into Severance.

I feel like they are just throwing weird stuff at us for the sake of weird stuff and everything won't be revealed. Still, they have me hooked and invested and that is all that matters.

Hooked.
pgrave-7107826 March 2022
Just registered here to give my first review. After a long time I'm finally hooked to a series again. "Severance" offers exactly what I need. "Defiant Jazz" was probably my favourite episode of the season. Can't wait for the next one to be released. If there's really a second season coming, I just hope that they can keep the pace. IMO it could have been also a perfect "mini" series which ends after season 1. Let's see where this will go.

Best episode in the series
alkhamshi26 April 2022
A great episode, let's start from the beginning. It was a crazy scenario of events. We started to understand it more. This episode left us with a lot of questions about what happened. It was a shock to all of us in the final scene of the episode. It definitely deserves the highest rating among all the episodes.

Love the series so far. The only downside for me was that Milchick didn't question how Irv got out of MDR. Apart from that, the final scene was great. Looking forward for explanations.

Greatest line in the history of television. Nothing will change my mind. Everything leading up to that line was brilliant. And the delivery was perfect. Thank you Ben stiller.

Toughing out the slow episodes was entirely worth it, because of this. Magnificent episode. Leaves me wanting more. Last few episodes should be thrilling after this.

Glad that the exceptional is still alive
LeCronopio26 March 2022
So, for quite some time I thought that from reading so much, watching series so much and films so much, writing my own ideas so much, I had ended up becoming a spectator unable to be amazed or admired by anything, that even works objectively and genuinely valuable, perhaps they no longer generated any of that in me due to artistic exhaustion, due to a bad habituation to the exceptional: and as a necessary response, precisely as a switch that awakens that part that was off in me again, Severance appears.

It is strange to even have to highlight elements such as photography in a setting that is emphatically monotonous, sunk in the insensitivity of the corporate machinery, of the labor torrent that annuls identities (here explicitly), but together with a precisely subtle and forceful narrative tone, to a narrative charged with philosophy, with life, with significant dialogues, with admirable performances, with an attempt charged with substance based on a vision that is indisputably artistic, it somehow ends up being natural to praise aspects that are both posterior and frontal in this show.

Since Succession I haven't felt the need to explicitly praise the work of an audiovisual narrative, and honestly I was already getting used to not having to. Perhaps because I'm in my late twenties and in less than a decade I have choked on masterpieces in every narrative plane (literature, cinema, television...) I created as a result a distorted notion of the narrative cultural field, because for almost a decade I was able to wallow in a large number of exceptional books, huge movies, brilliant series, a set of exclusive quality that had been formed over a whole damn century, and two millennia if we count literature. But if we reduce it exclusively to audiovisual narrative: in less than ten years I consumed the best that was created in the course of more than a century; I mean, now that I no longer have a The Wire, a Breaking Bad, a The Sopranos, a The Leftovers to see for the first time, I have to wait for these new masterpieces: AND THAT TAKES TIME.

As I was able to verify with Succession, it wasn't that I had finally lost the ability to be dazzled by a new show, but that I got used to admiring myself with the exceptional, and the exceptional shows appear precisely in that way, exceptionally. And after Succession, fortuitously to remind me of this, the exceptional Severance has appeared.

This episode that made me not want to be anywhere else
moyolindelwe21 December 2022
The opening episode of Succession was good enough to catch my attention and have me sign up for the journey. The next few episodes were slow, but you can tell there was a method to the pace and once you adjust, you soon realize the pace is actually perfect for what you're experiencing. So you start to enjoy the journey.

But this ... This here was the episode that made me not want to be anywhere else in the world at that moment. The Musical Dance Experience scene alone made me not want to be anywhere else EVER. Alongside Ozymandias (Breakibg Bad) and Who Goes There (True Detective 1), this is one of the finest hours I have ever seen on a TV screen.

[6.3] Dylan, the crazy best
cjonesas18 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 7: The mumbo badly continuing in extra beta mode for all the "lurons" (lads) in that "?" Company. We see sets of pictures, photography and developing acting without true meaning in the truest form of a 'philosophical' or 'psychological' explanation.

All the characters existence and behavior are like glitches in a trance state of code sprayed with beautiful musical score.

Nothing makes sense even after 7 episodes. Cliffhanger for who?!

The Mystery unravels
Mesina028 October 2022
I've been saying this many times throughout the season that if the show maintains it's high level of quality and intrigue, it'll remain as the best show this year and this does that so well. These last two episodes really make this show what it is and it just makes excited of whats to come.

The characters are really what elevates the narrative here. Dylan was a character that wasn't necessarily all that important but this episode really gave him something to do. The events of the previous episode was what set him on this path and I was kind of waiting for something like that to happen because the other workers storylines actually had something to do with overall plot. This was the biggest point to make just because he was a character that was mostly passive for the first several episodes.

Another character I want to point out is Mr. Milchick. He was probably the best character in this episode mainly because he was the only one to keep everyone in check. He has a cold and calculating persona and it really showed here.

Overall, a good episode that builds suspense quite well and ultimately moves the story in the best way possible.

Brand new episode is a masterpiece
moviesfilmsreviewsinc8 April 2022
Apple TV+ returns with a brand-new episode of 'Severance' after leaving everyone on the edge of their seats with Episode 6's thrilling ending that hinted at Mark Scout finally close to getting answers. So far on 'Severance' the mysterious work and hellish treatment have left the workers of the MDR department more eager to explore the enigma that is Lumon Industries. This sees them finally meet the workers of the O&D department to share information but the gathering is quickly broken up by a startled Ms Cobel and Mr Milchick, who panic at the unexpected scenario. This action won't go unpunished and we see new automated doors being constructed to lock in Mark and the others. So read on to know more about what happened in Episode 7 and our thoughts on it. Right off the bat, Episode 8 dives into an exciting atmosphere as outie Mark (Adam Scott) learns that the mystery woman is the one who implants the chip and is the only one capable of de-activating it and causing reintegration. Adding to the already thrilling scenario we see the second death of the show as Mr Graner (Michael Cumpsty), the head of security of the Severed floor gets killed by the lady when he shows up at the scene. Mark narrowly avoids getting found out by him but gets the key that could open the necessary doors after being handed Graner's security key card and instructed to take it to work. The Severance procedure also hides some dark secrets and Mark is in for a great shock. The MDR team find a way that could allow them to learn more about Lumon and its workings, setting off a stirring in all of them to find the truth. Lumon needs to watch its back as there's a spirit of revolt and revolution in the air, that sets up a beautiful strike back to come. Suspenseful, intriguing, gripping, and exciting, Episode 8 was chock full of action and stands as the best episode of the season thus far. 'Severance' is the show that keeps on giving and we can't wait to see what happens next.
