Odd
roderickdav25 August 2023
This is an odd series designed to show that aboriginals were worthy of admiration by modern first world standards, because apparently that is the only worthy measurement. Aboriginals, compared to Europe or Asia or the Middle east, were not sophisticated at all, they were the last stoneage culture. And this thing about the oldest living culture .... how could that be true?? All Anthropologists agree that, due to the overwhelming amount of archeology, that the human species originated in Africa, andf there are still African tribes living their hunter gatherer lifestyle today. There's archeological evidence of humans in Europe dated to 900,000 years ago. Are european cultures still continuing?? I'm pretty sure they are. Every culture on the planet went through the hunter/gatherer phase, Stonehenge was built while britons were hunter/gatherers ! Most parts of the world, like China and Europe kept on developing technology while Aboriginals stopped at the point where they were able to survive.

Love

As a white fella looking to expand my knowledge of a country I call home, I found this something to be incredibly proud of.

To hear the Stories straight from the mouths of first nations peoples is exactly how it should be told, not the text books I read in school.

I wish I'd been shown this in school at a time i could appreciate it. This should be updated required learning - it feels so much more respectable and personable.

I loved learning about their land management techniques!

I felt the current featured review was too subjective. This series is a step in a positive direction for Australian culture and should be seen by more.

Cultural Appropriation
brucejsantos-398941 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Granted, there were a number of stories and scenarios that were interesting to learn about. But, the 'inventiveness' claimed throughout is a serious stretch to those with an intellect. In fact, we found it to be a situation of cultural appropriation - but in reverse. A prime example is their claim to the airfoil via the boomerang, and that one of theirs essentially invented the concept of the helicopter blade. While the boomerang is arguably an airfoil, the details of its cross-section design are lacking. Further, the program's demonstration of the boomerang helicopter showed SIGNIFICANT design changes, to match helicopter pitch angles on each blade (which boomerangs do NOT have), shows poor ethical standards by the producers (they should have at least pointed that out).

Important, Educational & Beautiful
tim-0957527 July 2023
This is such an important series, which just isn't long enough to do the subject matter justice, hence minus 1 star.

I loved every minute of it and just wished more details could have been included, but there are only so many minutes in so few episodes to cover 65k years of ancient technology.

I was hoping the series might have been chronological and highlight some of the technologies that might have explained the Timor to Australia crossing. I'd seen the cave paintings in Timor and the objects found that show tech existed to do long duration deep sea diving etc

I loved all the interviewees and their insights, so beautifully eloquent about their knowledge.

I hope this series paves the way for more extensive shows about this amazing history.

Science brings closure
rdc-396-13323623 July 2023
This series uses science to prove aboriginals werent just hunter and gatherers. It closes the argument and the racism from writers trying to change aboriginal history, yet again, for their own pocket. O'Brien and sutton have been proved wrong and would be hiding in some hole right about now. John howard believed their story and nominated Suttons book for an award. Of course skynews aust cant be left out, they canned dark emu and promoted Suttons book, but thats regular BS from sky anything the coalition want sky news will bend over. #RWNJ'S Shame shame shame. Who watches sky anyway, utter drivel. The first inventors was great, great to see science win again.
