Personally, I actually thought it was ok...
kriskagie-140121 December 2020
I get many people didn't like this episode but I thought it was alright. I enjoyed the concepts presented here. The story was interesting to me, the characters too. I thought the second part of the episode is far better than the first and the investigation part was just ok.

The overall experience was fine, nothing too amazing, nothing terrible but it was enough for me. Either way still got enjoyment from it.

Going Viral
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic29 April 2020
The idea of villains introducing a virus that wipes out the enemy is an interesting one and makes sense in terms of general warfare. I am not sure how Palpatine would view this plan in terms of his overall masterplan but I am happy to go with it as another possible weapon to give him power plus the mad scientist might have gone with his own plans rather than following orders anyway. So the plot is good and we get a Jedi raid to stop the villain which is also a decent bit of action.

The villainous scientist is ok but a bit over the top. He looks and sounds a bit like an old cartoon baddie from the 80s or 90s but is quite fun. Meanwhile Padme, Anakin, Ahsoka and Obi Wan have good dialogue and relationships.

There are a couple of problems in how the episode is executed at times in terms of characters and dialogue:

Jar Jar gets involved and is, as usual, an unwelcome farcical joke.

Also on a few occasions Obi Wan and Anakin allow the villain to get the better of them while they do things like jumping to catch vials of the virus that he has thrown. They have Jedi powers that in other episodes show them lifting and stopping huge rocks and large metal objects so why would they not just catch the vials using the force and get on with catching the villain? That is a little bit poorly thought out and that kind of thing annoyed me on first viewing. On repeat viewing I feel a bit more forgiving as I suppose they jump to catch the vials instinctively and maybe are using the force to ensure they catch them. It just was not that impressive.

So overall not the best episode but not bad either.

My rating: 6.5/10.

Blue Shadow Virus
lassegalsgaard9 February 2021
For this episode, I feel like they went back on plotting and simply relied on action. The storyline of this episode came across as very boring and the cartoonish quality of the antagonist made it very clear that his plan would never work. There wasn't a lot of real stakes in this episode, and it was, unfortunately, another episode with a little too much dumb Jar Jar Binks. However, the action definitely saves the episode. There are so many greatly paced action scenes that are pieced together with exceptional editing. The adrenaline was definitely pumping in those scenes, despite the overall episode being a bit of a disappointment. When an episode is called "blue shadow virus," I would expect it to be something terrifying, but it really didn't have any real relevance for the episode.

Jar Jar Ruins Everything
cglamb-128 November 2023
I stopped watching Star Wars for 25? 30? Years because Jar Jar was so unbearable the first time we met him. I keep waiting for Clone Wars to redeem him, but it ain't happening yet. Here's another episode where he's a mission-threatening hazard and no one seems to mind or do anything to mitigate his foolishness. No shade on any Jar Jar actor-I simply do not understand what the showrunners are doing with this character.

The villain is Scooby Doo-level silly.

The worst thing, as overall in the series so far, is that the female characters are drawn in a ridiculous, voluptuous manner and wear bandeau tops and low-rider bottoms showing their belly buttons. Even Peppi is sexualized like this. It's weird and off-putting, especially in a show for kids. The tiny waists of Obi and Ani are similarly icky but at least they're fully dressed.

The redeeming factor in this one is that the Jedi are fun to watch in action mode, their banter is fun, and Ahsoka is great character. I also like Padme and C-3PO.

Dud in an Otherwise Good Series
henry-plantagenet-0423 January 2017
I agree with axopnk. This is the worst episode from season one. "Downfall of a Droid" and "Duel of the Droids" may have been a bit infantile, but they did feel like Star Wars. This didn't even meet that low mark. It felt more like an episode of Mel Brooks' spy spoof "Get Smart" but with all the humor leached out. There is precious little worth seeing. The show is brilliant but I do think this episode represents some of the worst. When watching the season, I typically just skip over this one. Unless you want a kind of so bad it's good feel, which I almost got I recommend you do the same. Really not much to say here other than Michael York is wasted with a ridiculous German accent. They could have cast anyone.

Mixed Bag, and Jar Jar is a Sith lord, I swear!
sixshooter50029 February 2020
The good here, is the action scenes, as always, are nice. Frankly, Matt Lanter's version of Anakin is always a joy. Biological Warfare is a good subject to explore in a war themed TV show.

The Bad, Jar Jar is the blundering idiot that still somehow saves the day in some way. The villian is generic and bad in a saturday morning cartoon kind of way, and while I realize this is a kids show, this is also star wars. That character is like a bad Doctor Evil from Austin Powers... when he could have been a Davros from Doctor Who, which would have been excellent.

Overall, middling score. 5 is for me, as good as it gets, without it actually being good.

Love this show but this episode was so out of place! & Padmé would never say that!
When Skywalker is trying destroy all these droids and save Padmé! Afterwards she says why don't u save me first before u go killing droids! And he says a thank you would be nice! Yes she would have ran out there by herself! But she would be screaming to kill the Mad scientist and to chase after him not take a pause and say u should have helped me first! That's some BS Padmé is a strong character! & that really made me mad and felt out of character! Also the bad guy felt like a generic baddy from a 90s kid movie not a Star Wars villain and maybe you can get away w/ just the voice being like that but his looks as well! Of course the animation was on point! But that Padmé thing really pissed me off she's always about mission first! Especially if half the galaxy is at stake! Ugh!

Jar jar is in it.
csdfred22 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Within the space of the first two minutes he trashes the room they're interrogating one of Dooku's droids in, destroying it of course, all so he could eat a bug. Then of course this bug is the key to everything and Jar Jar has saved the day. No. Easy skip.

Probably season 1's worst
axopnk11 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Again i will approach this story from storyline, action, characters and overall

Storyline: The Seperatist are working on a biological weapon that has been extinct for thousands of years.

Sounds cool right? True but the execution was horrific. When someone hears the line of "biological weapon" they automatically think some powerful, fast working virus that kills insanely.

Not only did this episode fail in this aspect, it failed in the way it was delivered. The virus was very slow working and in fact, had a cure. Im not sure about bio weapons but there should be almost zero chance of survivability, except for some antidote created by the creator of the weapon. The fact that it was so slow working made the threat seem lower or non existent.

Action: The first episode didn't really have any outstanding fight scenes as they were pretty basic. The second was enjoyable with the plant creatures, the whole set up of the "ghost" that destroyed ships etc. So the action was there for the second, but average for the first.

Characters: Keep in mind i'm only addressing new characters introduced. The kid in the second part was OK. Kinda nice to have another boy genius that knew a lot about robots etc (similar to anakin) but then again, it made the separatist threat seem unrealistic and artificial.

If a boy could do that to droids, then whats the point for a whole clone war? Where's the threat of a separatist army when some kid can just reprogram them easily? Why didn't other kids or people just reprogram them...well you get my point

The mad scientist was the worst character i have ever seen in star wars. He seemed like a 40's news reel German scientist. He even had a German accent. Not only was the episode pretty discriminatory, the character was cheesy, looked bad, sounded horrific and had absolutely no place in the Star Wars universe.

Overall: The story started with a nice concept, but failed by the characters used, and the execution of the storyline. It simply did not deliver. AVOID AT ALL COST.

A Veritable Turd of an Episode
tardis-0986615 July 2020
This episode is horrendous, the combination of the villain so far over the top that he's exiting the atmosphere, and the gungans leaves this episode difficult to get through without hitting the 10 second forward button a hefty amount of times.
