The great adventure of one little girl!
velianne-872049 July 2018
The short film tells the story of a young Japanese girl whose father is gravely sick and cannot come out of bed. For this reason, he gives money to his daughter in order for her to go and buy him packs of cigarettes. But the girl's mother refuses this scheme and checks every time her daughter's bag for new packs, removing them and scolding her. Eventually, under her father's insistence, the daughter waits for her mother to leave and goes out on a mission to buy a new pack for her father.

The Errand was quite an enjoyable short film for me. I appreciated first of all the originality of the story. Indeed, what struck me is the fact that this story, where a little girl is allowed to buy packs of cigarettes just at a vending machine, would never have been possible to take place in my own country. In that way, the very first scene actually shocked me, before I understood for whom she was actually buying them. What I also really enjoyed is that we really feel for the little girl. For example, when she fails continuously to get a pack, I felt really sad for her thinking back on the reason why she was doing this to begin with, to make her father happy, even if she perfectly knows that it is not helping his health at all. Finally, I also like the "journey" aspect of the little girl's quest for a pack. She travels her neighborhood, meets various people and faces obstacles. Even if it might be just a small scaled journey, for such a young girl like her it is probably the biggest she's ever had to go on to.

The Pure Heart
A girl's father has a bad cough and is sick in bed because of his serious illness. However, he can't stop smoking. Therefore, he asks his little daughter to buy cigarettes.

This is a Japanese short movie. Each of the cast plays the role very naturally. Especially, I love the little girl's acting. She is very charming. I can sympathize with the scene, where the girl can't turn her father's down even though she knows that her father is telling her a lie. I believe she never wants father's death because of the cigarette. She will just want to believe her father because she loves her father with pure feelings.

This story shows me that everyone has the pure heart. I recommend this film because it is very moving that only the little girl can change her father and the family becomes happy at the end.

Heartwarming story

Warning: Spoilers
This is the heartwarming story of a family. A girl buys a pocket of cigarettes because her father asks her to buy it. However, her mother scolds her severely and takes away the cigarettes from her. The girl is worried about her father, so she tries to get cigarettes. This story expresses the emotional turmoil of a little girl, and how she overcomes this turmoil and grows by her own efforts. I was moved by the acting of a child actress, because she plays the girl who loves her father and mother naturally. Not only the little girl but also her mother loves her father, but they are in conflict about cigarettes. I think that it's really difficult what we should give priority to. It's sad that they can't understand each other though they care for the father. I like the last scene because the faces of the family shows happiness.

A Wonderful Little Actress
AdamHawkes12 July 2013
A little girl has been buying a pack of cigarettes though she is scolded by her mother. What is her purpose in doing that? Actually, her family has a serious thing. This film is a story about a little girl who loves her family with a mental conflict in her mind.

The leading role, who I think is a girl about 8-years-old, is very good. She is a wonderful little actress. The role requires an ability to represent several emotions such as gladness, sadness, anger and confusion, but the girl performs very well. It is a pity that I have not known such a great performer until now.

In addition to this, this film has some critical messages or people around the world, such as what is really important, what we should do for someone who we love and what real family is like. Each of these is worth thinking of, therefore I'd like you to watch this film and think over them. Doing so also makes your life better than ever, I think.

This film is one of the best films for me, because not only are the actress and actor great but what it shows me is profound. It is a chance to reconsider what is significant for family to watch this film. This film might give you an answer to it.

Great film

An amazing short film with a good life lesson and moral.

A young girl is on a mission to purchase her sick father cigarettes. She goes through many lengths to find just one cigarette for her father despite the world going against her.

I really enjoyed this short film. All of the characters were amazing as well. I particularly liked the moral and life lesson of the story. The little girl loves her father so much she goes trough a lot of trouble to find him a cigarette. But sometimes, in order to help your love ones you must do what's really best for them. I think this is a good life lesson and moral that makes this film so amazing.

A little girl wants a cigarette for her father. But when she brings a cigarette, she is always scolded by her mother, because he is lung cancer. However he wants a cigarette hardly, so she goes to buy it again as she loves him.

This is a Japanese short movie that is about affection between parents and children. I moved this film. The little girl does not know that the cigarettes connect to his death. She wants her father to be well and wants to do something for him. So she only grants his wish. Her pure heart makes me moved.

What is message of this film? This movie let me think about the effects of cigarette will bring. A schoolgirl's phrase tells everything. I can feel this video reality, thanks to the ordinary actors.

Surprising means of buying cigarettes
f-2775314 June 2016
It is a heart-warming story with a mother,disease-suffering father and their daughter. The daughter,a lead character was asked by his father to buy a pack of cigarettes on her way home from school. Despite her mother's warning, the girl managed to bring it back home for her father. For the first place, you might be startled by the description of a girl, who is trying to purchase a pack of cigarettes if you don't get the reason for her behavior. You might presume it is her who is taking up smoke even though it is illegal. Even a few scene of the beginning is , therefore, effective and technically well-organised enough to stimulate our imaginations. However, I'm not satisfied with the very ending. It was a happy ending, the father finally giving up smoking for some reason and the girl disappointing at her father's refusal, and reading aloud the tale. Followed by the scene, the mother is coming up and joins them. They all imply the repaired family unity with the decision of the father, but I think it needs more explanation such as why father gave up smoking and why she is reading a tale.

Warning: Spoilers
A little girl, on her way home from elementary school, stands in front of a vending machine. She looks around and puts money into it. Surprisingly, what she buys is a pack of cigarettes. As soon as she arrives at her house, her mother tells her to show the contents of her backpack. Although she is reluctant to show it, at last, her mother finds cigarettes in her backpack. Her mother gets angry because this is not the first time that she buys them. Why does she go on buying them?

I think the reason why the girl buys cigarettes is very impressive. In fact, she seems not to want to buy them. however, because of the complicated reason, she decides to buy new cigarettes. Although this movie is a little cruel and makes me sad, I like this movie because it tells me fear of cigarettes and the value of family.

A little girl tries to buy a cigarette
miace24 July 2014
A little girl walks with her friends. After she parts from them, she buys a cigarette by a vending machine. When she goes back to home, her mother realizes that she buy a cigarette. Her mother become anger. She has the reason that she must buy a cigarette. The set of this movie is Japan. For me, this movie is approachable. On the way to she tries to buy a cigarette, she faces many troubles. The figure that she make effort is so admirable. Unconsciously, I cheered her in my mind. Many characters have each individuality. Their existence are also important to show how difficult for her. Mainly, the viewer of this movie is the little girl. So, we can see the world by child's view. It is usual thing for adult, for child, it is one of the adventure. This movie is heartwarming one. We empathy the family, I recommend it.

short film
ktkt-8091217 July 2022
'Otousan no tabako' is a short film. The protagonist is a young girl. Her father is recovering at home from an illness. He is bedridden. He also uses an oxygen mask. Despite his poor health, her father wants to smoke. He gives his daughter money and asks her to buy cigarettes for him. Her mother finds out and gets very angry. Undeterred, he asks his daughter again to buy him a cigarette. She is so distressed, and finally, the daughter gives the father a cigarette. However, he immediately throws it in the trash. She then stands by her father's side and reads aloud. This film makes me think a lot. It also raises a lot of questions. For example, why does the girl start reading and writing a picture book about a big turnip? It is worth a great deal to see. I hope many people will see it.

A Girl's Act
ayane-572009 January 2024
Otousan no Tabako is a story of a girl who lives with mother and sick father, and the father's condition is bad. One day, the girl goes home with her friends. Their talk seems very normal, and she looks like a normal girl, but she buys cigarettes after she says goodbye to her friends. I like this introduction, because I feel the scene of the girl with her friends complements the unusual act of her buying cigarettes, and bring us to many questions like why this girl who could be from anywhere buys cigarettes? I think this introduction hooks us and audiences concentrate on this movie. In addition, I think audiences may be taken with the girl. She knows cigarettes are bad, but she tries to get cigarettes somehow. Her admirable figure makes us empathize with her. The acting of the girl is very good. This movie is good and heartfelt, so I recommend it.

A little girl

Warning: Spoilers
"Otosan no Tabaco" is a short film from 2007, directed by Shohei Shiozaki. A little girl tries to buy a cigarette from the vending machine for her father, but her father is sick and he is not supposed to get them. Her mother finds out the cigarettes that she has and scolds her, but after mother goes out, her father begs her for cigarettes. She knows that will cigarettes kill her father, but she goes out to buy them. In this film, the future does not look bright for this family, but still, the ending shows that there are important things that still remains in this family. The girl tries to get cigarettes, and she meant well, but she also knows those are harmful for her father. She thinks only the cigarettes would make her father happy, ignoring the bad premonition, and this is the emotion that I liked in this film.

It is an impressive movie.
little-greenmen16 July 2013
This movie is a Japanese movie. The daughter often goes to buy cigarettes for her father, since her father has illness and he cannot to go to buy it. He had been told to stop smoking cigarette from his doctor though he asks his daughter to buy cigarettes. Her mother scolds her for buying the cigarette, but the daughter tries to take the cigarette to her father. Can she get and take cigarettes to her father?

I like this little girl. She does her best for her father, and this attitude is very lovable. I think that she really loves her father, so she wants to buy it by a lot of ways. Also, I like the high school student girl too. High school students are prohibited from smoking by law, but her stately behavior is so cool.

I wondered that her father's illness is very severe when the daughter came home, but he seemed fine in the next scene.

There was a small point what it is difficult to understand like above. Even so, it is impressive film.

This movie mirrors adult's through child's eyes.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie shows a conflict inside a little girl, and mirrors adults around her through child's eyes. She can't refuse her father's request, going to buy a cigarette for him, even if she knows it may kill him. She goes on an errand, but people think her strange because such a little girl is craving a cigarette. Usually we think from an adult's point of view, such as "children are imperfect," "we should teach and lead to make their future better." However these thoughts and acts of adults sometimes mix up a child. This film shows such a situation, so we feel such frustration. However, I could not understand this movie, especially at the end. Why does the father change his mind during her errand?

She worry about his father because he looks very painful, and she understand the father want to smoke. She wants her father to be fine. a delinquent girl appears to the daughter. She smokes. I like this movie. It is because I can see love in their family, The daughter really worries about her father. I like last scene, but I cannot tell the last scene because if I tell it, it will be board for you.

I want the girl to grow up as an excellent adult.
rinachoco5 January 2024
'Otousan no tabako' is a drama about a little girl who tries to get a cigarette for her father. Her father is confined to bed. However, she is asked to buy a cigarette by her father one day. She, of course, knows cigarettes are bad for his health, but she goes out and looks for the cigarette while her mother is going out. I was touched by her admirable spirit. She is just an elementary school pupil, so she can't buy cigarettes because only people over the age of 20 can buy cigarettes in Japan. However, she tries a lot of ways. She walks around and around the town. The scene that most left an impression was that she passes in front of a greengrocer many times. This movie made us think about smoking. We all know that cigarettes are dangerous to health, but some people are partial to it because it makes them feel good. This is a great short and is well worth seeing.

Family love story
sumomo11299 January 2024
"Oto-san no tabako" is a family love story. A daughter looks for cigarettes for her father. But her father is sick and she knows that smoking is bad for his health. She is very hesitant but she can't refuse her father's request. I feel very sad because I can understand both the daughter's feelings and her father's feelings. The daughter doesn't want to buy cigarettes for her father's health. However, her father is sick and he wants to smoke while he can. The daughter decides to buy cigarettes, but fails. And she does all kinds of things to get cigarettes. I am moved by a daughter who repeatedly tried to get cigarettes for her father. You also can see her deep love for her father. This film is really worth seeing. After watching it you may think about your own family.

She just wants to help his father
yasumaru-3294812 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Otousanno Tabako is a good short film about family love. The main character is a young girl who is an elementary school student. She buys cigarettes for her father who sleeps at home every day because he has a serious disease by smoking. He asks his daughter to buy cigarettes but keeps it secret from his wife. Though I wondered why the mother does not scold the father for letting his daughter buy cigarettes, I was impressed with the decision that the father makes for his family in the end. I was also impressed with the act of the girl when she cries seeing his father cough badly. I feel there are two reasons why she cries. The one is that she fears the death of her father. The other is that she feels that she kills him because she buys cigarettes for him knowing it has a bad effect on his body. That is why she ignores the high school girl's question in the park.

you should watch
tomoa-3139214 November 2023
Otousan no tabako is a short drama made in 2007. This movie is made in Japan. There are three main characters: A father has some kind of lung disease and is dying, and a mother, and their daughter. And another character is a student who smokes cigarettes. One day, the mother finds out that her daughter has a cigarette. The mother gets angry and tells the daughter to quit smoking. But it is the father who is stuck and tells the daughter to go buy some. What is waiting for the father? And for the daughter who goes out to buy some smokes even after the mother gets angry? The final development is hard to understand because it seems to be left up to the viewer, so the ending is not clear. I think you should see this movie because it is a good opportunity to think about many things with the behavior of children having cigarettes, which is not so common today.

Review

A little girl goes to buy cigarettes to a vending machine for her father even though her mother tells her not to do that. Her father is suffering from serious illness, so he can not buy by himself. This short film describes the little girl's conflict that she loves her father and wants to buy cigarettes for him even though of course she knows cigarettes are bad for health, especially sick people. I think the film's title Otousan no tabako (Father's cigarettes) describes the girl's conflict well. I mean that Otousan no tabako means not only her love for her father but also the thing which may cause his worse health or his death. I recommend everyone to watch this film because it describes the girl's conflict very well. People may recognize again that cigarettes are bad for health, what is more, those who smoke may feel that they should stop smoking for their daughters or beloved.

a girls conflict
p_san33123 January 2014
The Errand is a Japanese film which shows anxiety and perplexity. A man has a serious illness and he can't move from his bed. He is addicted to cigarettes and keeps making his daughter buy them. The girl faces two contrary opinions. Her father says that cigarettes are good for his health. On the other hand, her mother argues that they kill people. From her behavior, when she buys cigarettes, you can tell that she knows she is doing something wrong. In this film we can see her inner conflict against her own conscience. The girl sees her father dying and she will keep buying cigarettes to make her father happy. She will even lie to her mother if she has to. I really enjoyed following the girl's feelings.

Cigarettes give us no thing good
k003854612 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This film makes us think about how we should deal with cigarettes. A little girl is told by her sick father to buy and bring him cigarettes. She knows that cigarettes are bad for health but she goes out to buy them. After facing lots of hardships, She finally gets one. But she remembers herself saying "You will die if you smoke". At the end of this film she reluctantly gives her father a cigarette but he also realizes that health is more important that cigarettes so he says he doesn't need it.

This film moved my mind a lot. I really think there is no advantage in smoking. It just makes people addicted and unhealthy. This film is trying to impress how smoking has a bad influence not only on people who smoke, but also people around them. Isn't it high time that we think more about how we should deal with cigarettes?

Warning: Spoilers
Otousan no tabako is an amazing short film about a little girl trying to buy a cigarette for a sick father. The father often gives money to her daughter and let her buy a cigarette for him. One day mother detects that she is often buying a cigarette and gets it away from her telling that cigarette is bad for health and makes people die. However, her father asks to buy again and again, so she tries to get it somehow again and again even though she knows that cigarette is bad for health. One day her father quit asking and gives up. The reason why he suddenly gives up having cigarette was not clearly depicted, I was a little bit surprised. Overall, I liked it except for its title, because te title tells everything.

A girl's confusion
yfm359429 July 2013
In this film, there are three main characters: a little girl, who is the heroine of this story, and her parents. Her father is in bed because of the illness but he is a smoker, too. The keys to read this film are cigarettes and purity of the girl.

In general, small children believe what their parents say. However, the girl faces two contrary opinions. Her father says that cigarettes are good for his health so that the girl will buy them for him(In the setting of this film, they can buy cigarettes without Taspo, which is necessary when you buy cigarettes in Japan now). On the other hand, her mother argues that they kill people. I think this is a cruel situation for such a little girl. In many cases for children, their parents are the rule and learn the appropriate attitude as a human from adults. In my opinion, we must not make children feel such a contradiction. In that point I value this film because it enables us to notice the possibility of our making children confused due to our selfishness.

On the other hand, you may feel there is something lacking in the end o the story. As I mentioned above, is has a great message. However, its narrative is not so elaborate given its length.

At any rate, I hope you will see this film and receive something important.

This movie is that a girl searches for a cigarette to her sickly father. But her mother never let her get it. She tries many times.

I like the attitude of the girl to work hard . it is very cute and makes me cheer her. The scene of Japan reminds me of my childhood in Niigata. The towns in this film are almost similar to my birth place, so I like them.

I do not like the scene that a high school girl smokes. I actually do not like cigarettes because they cause only bad things.

I think the movie teaches us the bond between children and parents. Actually I like this kind of films, so I was moved. This movie also reminds me of my childhood and connection between me and my parents. This movie will probably make you feel happy !
