A mysterious black horse and a cloaked death-like figure travel through the dreams and nightmares of a young boy in “Evil Things,” the new video from dark psychedelic rockers The Black Angels. Directed by artist/photographer/filmmaker Kevin Castanheira, the film's haunting imagery compliments the droning, pulsing cosmic tones and heavy, Sabbath-style rhythms that permeate the band's critically-acclaimed new album Indigo Meadow. The Black Angels hail from Austin, Texas, and recently played South By Southwest on the heels of a Winter tour with the legendary Roky Erickson (one of the giants of postmodern rock). They will be curating their own seventh annual Austin Psych Fest on May 2nd through 4th, featuring bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Loop, The Dandy Warhols and Panda Bear. Be sure to also check out the Psycho-inspired video for Melinda Ortner's “One More Day,” which debuted on Fearnet to coincide with the Season 2 premiere of Bates Motel.

The words “Grand Theft Auto” and “morality” hardly go hand-in-hand.
A video game franchise that allows you to indiscriminately murder innocent civilians, assault women, buy prostitutes and steal cars, GTA has had its fair share of controversy down the years.
Banned in Brazil, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea (to name but a few countries), the Rockstar Games series, along with its sheer levels of violence, isn’t one for the easily offended.
Lawsuits have been filed against it in courtrooms up and down the land in recent times, with former American attorney Jack Thompson one of its most famous of critics.
But none of this has made Rockstar tone down their sandbox epic, because GTA V, the latest in the long-running series, made headlines for yet another controversial incident shortly after its release last in September.

The headlines and articles back in summer 1999 said that the film had changed cinema forever. They made extravagant claims that the internet had now been used to such a degree that the marketing and distribution of films would never be the same again. This may have been premature, what these journalists didn’t quite grasp was that the majority of citizens with a connection to the internet were still on slow dial-up connections, and this made watching trailers or downloading porn a lengthy night’s chore at best.
The film that was causing all of the hoopla was none other than Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick’s The Blair Witch Project, although not the first ever in the sub-genre now known as ‘found footage’, it turned out to be the most memorable and acclaimed. Sanchez and Myrick had used the internet and showings at film festivals to build a major...

Evil things are afoot in a new trailer for Neil Jordan’s vampire drama “Byzantium”, starring Gemma Arterton as the sexiest British vampire lass you’ll ever want to suck your blood. I get the feeling this movie will be depressing as hell, like some arthouse attempt at horror. If that’s your thing, this might go down pretty easy. If you’re expecting more, though, this might be a tad disappointing. Find out for yourself in the new trailer below. Eleanor and Clara, two mysterious and penniless young women, flee the scene of a violent crime and arrive in a run-down coastal resort. They try to find money and refuge along the tawdry seafront and in the dilapidated hotels. Clara, ever-practical, sells her body. She soon meets shy and lonely Noel, who provides a roof over their heads in his seedy guesthouse, Byzantium. Clara, always looking towards the future,...

Thom Yorke, Flea, long time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, session drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco have conjured up some heady experimental rock and electronica juju on this album of Radiohead-like alt-dance and fragmented rock tunes. ★☆☆☆☆ In today's economically stringent times, there is no excuse for something as woefully inept as Evil Things (2009), the debut from director Dominic Perez. Filmmakers owe it to their public to make films which are at least entertaining, if they want them to part with their hard earned cash. This new horror starring Elyssa Mersdorf, Ryan Maslyn, Laurel Casilo, Morgan Hooper and Torrey Weiss has all the fright value of a bad episode of Scooby Doo.

Today (August 9th 2011) is the quiet release of Evil Things, a film that employed many found-footage tropes long before they became mainstream. Being an independent film, Evil Things lacked the proper funding to be distributed and sat on the shelf for about 2 years. Now, with the success of Paranormal Activity, Rec, Cloverfield, and Troll Hunter, Evil Things was able to be picked up and lightly distributed. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of similar films, I am afraid that Evil Things will get pushed to the wayside. I want to talk about my experience with Evil Things and then do a review of sorts.
About 2 years ago, when I started showing interest in horror films that were not mainstream, a friend of mine by the name of John Squires, brought me in a copy of a new found-footage film that he thought was better than most. I was only really...

Evil Things Inception Media Group proudly presents "Evil Things". A pulse-pounding, twisting game of cat-and-mouse arriving to DVD on August 9th. Evil Things is in the vein of such hit horror films as Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield in that it employs the found footage technique. Critics hailed the film as genuinely frightening noting that Evil Things packs a wallop in its ability to scare audiences and to create an atmosphere of tension and unease, especially, during the last act of the film. Heck, I am not even a fan of the found footage sub-genre of horror, but this is one title that I am looking forward to as I want to see if it can live up to its promise of being able to scare me.

The film opens with the familiar story of college kids on an idyllic winter weekend trip, but ends in a state of horror and terror that will keep audiences at the edge of their seat. Miriam, celebrating her 21st birthday, gets the use of a beautiful country house for the weekend. A new trailer for Dominic Perez's terror tale involving a group of college kids looking for a good time who have vanished without a trace has come our way courtesy of the director himself so we figured the right thing to do would be to turn your horror-loving eyes on to it!
No word on distro yet, but when we know, you'll know. Check out the new trailer below.
Synopsis
On January 9th, 2009, five college students left New York City for a weekend in the country. Forty-eight hours later they vanished without a trace. There were no leads and no evidence...until now.
It’s Miriam’s 21st birthday. As a birthday gift Miriam’s aunt Gail has decided to lend Miriam her beautiful country house for an entire weekend. Aunt Gail’s country house is amazing. It’s a four-bedroom house surrounded by breathtaking mountains and miles and miles of woods.

New York City’s VisionFest 09, which bills itself as “The Other Festival,” takes place June 17-21 at Tribeca Cinemas (54 Varick St.), and like any self-respecting film event, it has some scares in its lineup. The most notable will be the NYC premiere of Blood River, the latest feature from Broken and The Devil’S Chair’s Adam Mason.
Blood River revolves around a couple whose seemingly perfect marriage begins to unravel after they suffer a blowout while driving through the desolate Nevada desert. They come upon an abandoned town, and a mysterious stranger who begins to deconstruct their lives even more. The movie screens on Friday, June 19 (accompanied by two shorts) at 9:30 p.m.
Serving as the opening-night attraction on Wednesday, June 17 at 8 p.m. is Dominic Perez’s feature debut Evil Things. This indie chiller (which we first told you about here) follows five college students whose weekend...
