Great Idea, Mediocre Execution
mannhl14 June 2012
My rating would actually be about a 6.5 if I could, so I rounded.

I found this short film (legally) on a torrent site, and decided to check it out. It's not that long or anything, so it wasn't a huge deal if it was terrible. I was surprised when I found it on IMDb.

Overall, it wasn't bad for a first film. It has elements of "first film syndrome", for instance odd casting decisions, rocky dialogue, some forced delivery and dialogue, and actor motions/actions. But at its core, if you can forgive these things, it's kinda neat.

The central idea is the two inner monologues of two people standing at a bus stop. The idea sort of grows from there and becomes pretty neat at the end, but I won't give too much away here. But because of that growth, you need to stick with the whole 10 minutes to get the most out of the movie.

I only saw it once, but I also think it was pretty much all done in one shot. It's hard to tell if this is because it's an amateur film or if it was intentional, so maybe it would have been better to do something more traditional, as the simplicity of one shot feels like it works against the overall movie at several points.

If you stumble across it and plan on watching it all the way through, give it a shot. There's just enough going on to make it worth seeing. Just don't pay for it or anything.

A Good Attempt at Thought Connections

Warning: Spoilers
Here's the deal with this short. It's an independent project and it moves away from trying to showcase CGI in a story and instead explores a one-take presentation on two characters that could meet and what they might discuss at a bus stand. It's clever, but as with any independent film, there are problems. Taking it at face value, there's certainly a lot of potential here but also room for improvement and it was enjoyable for what it tried to present. It's enjoyable and gave a few laughs. The phallic-graffiti alone warranted an additional star. I give a lot of credit for the entire film being shot in one take, and their recompiling of the content to form a conversation. I look forward to what these guys do next.
