A fun episode.
chancelormayfield7 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was quite enjoyable. Glad we got to know more about Chester, i felt like that was really needed. I'm interested to see how this storyline with killer frost goes, which is surprising because even tho i enjoy Caitlyn/killer frost i've never really been interested in their storylines. The one thing that kinda bothers me is that Barry wasn't really in this episode. Like everyone always says, it's called The Flash. We want to see Barry Allen. Another thing that bothers me is that we are constantly seeing the villains get taken down in this show by just talking to them. I get that the team doesn't really have a plan on how to control these new forces just yet, but it's still kinda annoying how they keep talking their villains into being good all of a sudden. Overall, it was a good fun episode.

The One With Tropes and Cliches, but at least they're Well Executed
demigodshmurda7 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of the stuff done in this episode has been done before, and was definitely done on this very show, or other shows in the same universe, but that doesn't mean this is a bad episode, or that it doesn't work.

Chester's been showing up on and off for a season and a bit now, but he never felt like a member of the team until after this episode. I did genuinely enjoy his story with his father, despite having seen things exactly like it quite a few times before. There were enough unique elements to their interactions that made me enjoy it, especially the part about teaching Chester that dumpster diving can be useful. Overall, I thought it was handled well.

I was definitely expecting more from the time loop plotline, but I can understand them mostly dropping it for plot and time constraints. There's also a new aspect to the time loop here where your memories become that of the version of yourself that would exist at this point in time, unless you were in possession of the isotope detector, and that the only way to snap you out of that state is to reference pop culture. That's just plain fun, and is definitely a new take on the typical "groundhog day" episode.

I also liked all the stuff with Iris and the Speed Force Avatar this week. With the Speed Force Avatar taking the appearance of Barry's mom, it's understandable that it might cause him a bit of emotional pain, even years after the Speed Force first appeared to him in that form. Candice Patton and Michelle Harrison have some surprisingly good chemistry together, and that line about Iris being Barry's lightning rod, but the Speed Force being his lightning actually kinda works. Like, I've always hated the whole "Iris is Barry's lightning rod" thing, but they made it work in this scene. Props to the writers for fixing that, albeit temporarily.

There were a few complaints I had with the episode. For one, the Masonville setting was clearly hyped up to include a younger version of Barry Allen in the episode, despite the passing of Logan Williams last year. I can understand why the writers would've backed out on the idea for Williams' sake, but we've seen different actors portray younger versions of these characters before, with at least two actresses being young versions of Kara and Alex Danvers on Supergirl. Additionally, Masonville was mentioned in the Flash's third season finale, and that seems like the kind of thing Eric Wallace would've wanted to expand upon. Again, understandable why they didn't, but still a missed opportunity.

Additionally, the episode was cringey in some places. I get that that's the point of it, and that the episode may have been the writers seeing how far they could push it before people started saying they "jumped the shark", but this is a show about a guy that can run faster than lightning and regularly fights cgi gorillas and shark men. This show's already jumped so many sharks that this is just par for the course at this point.

Overall, there was some tropes and cringey bits in this episode, but it's far from the worst Flash episode I've seen. Not amazing, but not bad. Definitely had its moments one way or the other. I can see people rating this a 1, but I can also see people rating this an 8 or 9. I think I'm somewhere in the middle personally. I enjoyed it, but it's not my favorite episode this season.

6 / 10.

Really fun and really interesting
eapuhala7 April 2021
Chester got some fantastic development in a super fun and emotional way. The final of the forces got revealed and I can't wait to see more of this story. All around just enjoyable, not your average flash episode which is good. It's been on for 7 years, let it do some interesting stuff.

Without the Flash it sucks
csmkickin7 April 2021
We all come and gather around to watch the flash. We want to see the flash in action not gone for the entire episode. He is the one who makes the show. It's names The Flash not The Central City Companions.

Focussing on the other team members makes it better.
poseidon-thoughts7 April 2021
Ok the episode wasn't terrible this time, but there are still the same issues bothering me as the last couple of previous episodes. I enjoyed that they focussed a bit more on Chester and Cisco this time rather then Flash. They finally gave Chester some kind of backstory making the character more believable and more appealing to the viewers. They should dedicatea a episode to Frost and focus on her backstory, when she was working as Killer Frost.

It's still the same problem though with the villians always being talked down before they destroy everything. They need a villian like Reverse Flash or Zoom again to add the fear back into the show, the she-Hulk isn't doing that for me.

I always don't buy the story of the Speedforce being hunted by the other forces. Most likely the Speedforce is the one after them because they represent a new kind of threat to her and she wants to get rid of them.

I'm really hoping for a good plot twist.

Loved it
sarahfelman0314 April 2021
I don't understand why people are slandering iris in the reviews, I thought she was/looked great. I can't stand how people always seem to throw all the hate on her when she was barely in the episode. Anyways, I enjoyed it and loved the theme, peace!

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: One With the Nineties
lbramson9 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is just delightful! Chester and Cisco get trapped in the 90s and need to find the Still Force avatar. This was a great introduction to my favorite force: The Still Force. It was probably the funniest Flash episode ever made, only rivaled by Elongated Journey Into Night, Darkness and the Light, License to Elongate, and Girls Night Out (only Drunk Barry w/ chicken wings). Some of my favorite moments are 90s dressed Frost, Chesco, and of course kid Cisco! The mellow drama with Chester's dad was a little preachy, but it's not enough to ruin this episode! Certainly one of my favorites this Season, but unfortunately, it only gets worse from here. 7.5/10.

Warning: Spoilers
This is way better than the previous episodes that we had, beautiful and emotional character development for Chess. In the previous episodes, he felt dull and out-of-place with meaningless references. But damn, that got me. Meeting up with his dad before the day he died, the father threw out a spare part for him to pick up. Wow. I like Chess more. Speaking about the past, I love the 90s references. A lot of parts were funny like when the high-schoolers were expressing how it would be in the next 23 years. Killer Frost has a good taste in fashion. Things are gonna get weird! The episode had that Legends of Tomorrow vibe but more emotional.

Less Iris, more Chester and Barry
miguelcesar9 April 2021
This episode could have been only about Cisco and Chester... why did they need to put Iris being the second main Character ... AGAIN?

Please make Iris go to a journey to find herself, like for 3/4 epioades, and then bring back the old iris from s1.

Pure Fun
RahulM0077 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The sixth episode of the seventh season titled "The One with the Nineties" is fun and uplifting that explores Chester's past and introduces the still force. The title of the episode is perhaps a nod to the 90s sitcom Friends where every episode title begins with "The one with/where."

Cisco and Chester's bromance was further exemplified in this episode. I love their back and forth banter and their era appropriate costumes. Were Cisco and Chester, as Iris put it, "separated at birth"? I loved the "coffee and a cronut" bit in this episode.

Cisco as a 7-year old in a grown man's body is hilarious and one of the many highlights of the episode. It kind of reminds me of when Derek Hale shifted into a teenager in the fourth season of Teen Wolf, which was written and co-executive produced by the Flash showrunner Eric Wallace.

The literal time god possessing the still force proves to be an omnipotent adversary for Team Flash. All the forces are beyond Team Flash's understanding and experience. I guess that Chillblaine aka the new Captain Cold, who will be making his debut appearance in episode 7, also possesses the still force.

It was quite disappointing that Allegra did not appear in this very special episode of the Flash. Hopefully she will appear in episode 7 titled "Growing Pains" (another reference to a 1980s sitcom). Allegra showcases so much potential and hope that she is not underused this season.

As I figured, Barry was regenerating for the majority of the episode. From his facial expression, it seems like Barry is not fully on board with Nora the speed force staying with him and Iris. This will likely cause some friction between Barry and the speed force.

The post credits scene sets up episode 7. Joe tries to warn Frost that Kristen Kramer intends to find discriminating evidence against her. I wonder if Frost's storyline this season will lead to her leaving Central City and living as a fugitive.

To conclude, whilst it was not as good as season 5's time loop episode, it still delivered on all levels and brightened my mood. The vibrant costumes, exuberant setting, fun and goofy characters and the WandaVision vibes makes this episode top tier and worth rewatching over and over again.

Final verdict: 9.5/10.

I actually liked this episode a lot
ldamena7 April 2021
Maybe it's because I really don't like Barry anymore and an episode without him was pretty entertaining to me. Yeah, yeah he's the main character on this show but when I enjoy this more when the titular character isn't in the episode well then it tells me that this show has a big problem in how the writers write Barry Allen. And, how I react to that writing and perceive the character. Anyway I also felt like this ep had plenty of heart something that has been missing for years, reminded me of the first 2 seasons. The mix of comedy and angst was a ten. It was also nice to get to know more of Chester as a character.

Warning: Spoilers
Ok. So this episode was so horribly written it's bad. First of all the storyline and plot sucked and were so confusing and it just felt so out of place and random. I love this show but it is just going downhill with this season it's so disappointing. And the whole Nora Allen speed force thing is so bizarre and confusing to say the least. And then there was Barry. He was in a coma and then miraculously he's fine with no explanation. Seriously. I just hope next weeks episode is better.

Finally jumped the shark
terrylarosa7 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At least officially since it probably jumped it a couple of seasons ago. Only people that haven't reached puberty could possibly enjoy this abomination of an episode. After finally showing a decent episode in I don't know how long ( the last one ) this junk Nickelodeon ep assaults our senses. Why do they keep making kiddie eps like this in a once brilliant show is depressing. Total trash.

The Flash is heading on the right track!
haughtonchris7 April 2021
First of all i'm giving it a ten because I didn't see anything wrong with this episode. I loved the fact that they gave Grant a brake and let Cisco and Chester lead this episode. Brandon McKnight was amazing in this episode and I'm excited to see more of him. Frost's character issues are practically fixed in my opinion, she is not nearly as cringe as before. This was a well written episode, and I hope to see more good quality episodes in the future.

People that are giving it one star are just being stupid. (Spy kids 3 is rated a 4. If you think the flash is worse than spy kids then why are you watching it?)

Overall a good episode, not amazing but definitely better than some previous episodes.

Warning: Spoilers
It's great to get to know Chester's story and see more of his performance. Of the best characters! Thanks for inserting it into the series!

I don't know why the chapter has bad reviews. I find it funny. Maybe it's because of the absence of flash, yes, that's not so good, but it's still entertaining.

Enjoyable and fun/MORE IRIS PLEASE!
mrvinter14 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was very light compared to the earlier ones and I enjoyed it a lot. I hate when fans of this show always complain about not seeing barry blah blah blah. I agree on some spectrum, but when you have two good characters such as cisco and chester it makes it easy for me to not care. I literally did not care if barry was going to be in the episode or not before he showed up. Also, Iris looked gorgeous in her "90s" fit(looked more like 70s to me but it's alright). I don't get the iris-hate train she's literally done nothing bad this whole season but "frostie" fans like to come at her sideways all the time.

Why the Hate
rstenstrom5 August 2021
I don't know why people are hating on this episode is wasn't that bad, I thought it was a pretty great episode. It was funny, emotional and it was great to see character development for Chester, a character which I quite like. I don't know how people can say that this is Iris-washed. She was in the epidode the most besides Chester snd Cisco but she was just there so the speedforce-Nora can get some development. This concept of the episode, which is a timeloop, has been dine a lot but its still entertaining. And yes the villain was a bit mediocre and had a pep talk, but the villain was barely in it anyways. Overall the episode wasn't perfect, but people need to stop expecting the best from each episode, the episode was filler but not a throw away one especially if you are a fan of Chester and Cisco. And just because the Flash is not in it that much doesn't mean its a bad thing. He's the protagonist but that doesn't mean he needs to be i every episode. There is 18 episodes this season, which is enough to flesh out all of the characters and villains. And I'm starting to like Iris a bit more recently, she has changed a little after coming out of the mirrorverse and she's not been as bossy and egotistical.

Is the Flash at the stage when everyone expects the best out of each episode?

Another non-Flash episode...
hasansevik20 April 2021
Where is The Flash? I'm sorry, I know you've read this before... But this is ridiculous. Why is the show called The Flash if we're not seeing, you know, THE FLASH? Superman & Lois is called that because it's about both Superman and Lois. If the show was called Superman then yeah, we'd be annoyed that she was getting 99% more airtime than him. But because of the title, we watch it for both characters, who are equally amazing and brilliant and world saving. I like Cisco. I like Frost. But Iris, a human personification of the Speed force, Chuck, and a million other side characters that are both inconsequential and yet simultaneously boring is a waste of everyone's time.

I don't get it. I don't like it. And as a massive Flash comics fan and fan of the original series, this show has finally made me switch off. I'm done. You've ruined it.

Thanks.
