Ending of Flying Dagger
cvang01028 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The obvious ending of course is the where Yue Shen finds Li Huai in Japan, and they hug and finish. They live happily ever-after.

BUT if you realize, the ending scenes are partially in Black and White. Black & White is often used to symbolize dreams or superficial thoughts, also when she sees Li Huai the song plays exactly at the part song words"seek, seek, even if I have found; it is merely in my dreams".

Hence the multiple ending could be explained as such...

Everything she saw in Japan was nothing but in her dreams ... Li Huai had died, if there was a scene to follow; Li Huai would disappear from her arms, all the kites around the house would also disappear, and the house would be nothing but an abandoned ruin. Everything she saw there was what she wanted to see ... it was a dream.

After death she only holds one hope. song words 'That the sins of the past life, will be repeated in the this life' I didn't like the ending at first until I realized this concept, and it actually turns out to be a pretty good ending. People who love happy endings will watch it as a happy ending and people who prefer a more dramatic ending can watch it as a sad ending.
