Pretty good.
Sleepin_Dragon2 August 2023
Sunny and Jess begin to see eye to eye, their better working arrangement brings them closer to the truth, but their investigations are thrown into disarray by two pretty shocking revelations.

I am still waiting for it to get our of third gear, and accelerate along, it just doesn't really get moving. Once again, this was a solid, very well acted affair, and there were some pretty seismic revelations, just compared to previous seasons, it just somehow feels a little pedestrian.

They're going to have to go some in the final episode so spark this series into life, it really does need a few big moments.

Max Rinehart has been very good as Karol, I'm just feeling that he's too disjointed from the main body of the story.

Good, but if could have been much better.

7/10.

Another complex case -- don't look away?!

Congrats to bob-1135, for writing I think the most ill-informed review I've ever seen on here, and that includes some purlers.

He says "what a sad end" . . .er, HELLO, this is episode five, and it's NOT the end?! He doesn't seem to appreciate the story has been following several credible, possible murderers (and their partners where they exist), then drawing the threads together for the end (THAT will be episode SIX, hope that helps Bob?!).

This is exactly what previous series in this show have done, and they've been very popular.

"Man who stole the watches" - well, could be the murderer (disgraced social worker, being blackmailed by the victim). And he had gone to live in Paris, oh, sorry, too i'national?! Presumably the cult-farm in Wales (the victim had lived there at times) should have been in Essex?

"Miscarriage" - er, just trying to show some personal life of the coppers, as was the new lead's hubby having an affair? Too distracting?? As for "presumed Lesbian relationship" - - really, where? I must have missed them, where were THEY?!! Which characters disappeared without trace? As for Hayley Mills, and her screen time, maybe she gets more in episode six -- that IS the last one!! Keep the faith, complex plotting, and more suspects than some Christie books, but stay with it, even if the new lead isn't Nicola Walker, and possesses an Oirish accent!

Episode 5

The police working as a team amped up a bit since Sunny Khan and Jessie James had a heart to heart.

This left them trying to figure out just who murdered Precious Falade and the clues zoomed in.

The penultimate episode had some revelations. The cult leader in Wales died some years ago.

Some of the likely suspects became less likely. It meant the noose tightened around Lord Hume and Karol Wojski.

While it was good to see Sunny Khan and Jessie James working together well. The whole story stretched credibility a bit too much for my liking.

It does look like some aspects of the plot might have been a deliberate blind alley.

On the other hand some characters were fleshed out more. Ebele Falade talking about how her family tried to induce an abortion when she fell pregnant as a teenager by pouring booze down her. The incident turned her into liking alcohol.

The episode leaves the story in a good place for the finale, but this has been a very downbeat series with too many unlikeable characters.

Dreadful disappointment

What a sad end to a lacklustre series. You can always tell this by the number of things that can be removed without effecting the storyline. Start off with the chef and his chain of cafes, man who stole the watches, miscarriage, and the presumed lesbian relationship. A very muddled and virtually incomprehensible series and a shocking waste of the wonderful. Sanjeev. Bhaskar. The storyline seemed to be shooting off in all directions, why the trip to Paris was necessary I have no idea. Characters were introduced and then vanished without a trace. Hayley Mills had less screen time than Banquo's Ghost. A great let down.
