Great effort..
vernjackie27 March 2010
Well, i'm impressed. This film and others like it give me hope that Thai/South east Asian movies are trying to recreate the magic of 80s Hong kong action flicks. Its a good attempt too. Lets get down to the nitty gritty though.

As you'd probably expect the story and the acting is laughable. Feels like an amateur college production, but who cares right? We're here for the action?..... wrong. There's a little too much of the bad acting and terrible comedy for my liking.

However when the action finally shows up every now and again, it's a pretty good effort. I'll stress that its not perfect in my opinion (having watched a lot of martial arts flicks). My biggest gripe is the directing. The camera work is shoddy on the most part, flicking between limbs and not showing many stunt falls in one take.

I'd definitely recommend this film after a night out. Grab a few beers and laugh. At least they're trying to make real action, something we don't see a lot of these day. A+ for effort!

Full of adrenaline alright...
paul_haakonsen28 April 2012
"Bangkok Adrenaline" is a non-stop action movie from the start to the very end. And the action is off the charts, no wires, no CGI, just pure action and martial arts.

The story in "Bangkok Adrenaline", however, was fairly unimaginative and rather simple. A group of foreigners in Thailand end up with a massive gambling dept, and in order to raise money for paying the dept then decide to kidnap the daughter of a millionaire. Demanding a ransom for the girl's release, the foreigners have taken on a bit more than they initially thought was going to be a piece of cake.

I found the story to be moving ahead at snail speed, taking forever to get almost nowhere. That, however, was fortunately helped along by lots and lots of action and fighting. And all these action scenes were really great, well executed and delivered, and the fighting scenes were raw, brutal and hard-hitting.

The acting in the movie was mediocre, so don't expect to see award-winning performances here. Some people put on better performances than others, of course, but the overall was just mediocre. Despite these mediocre acting, it was really nice to see westerners in a Thai fighting movie of this caliber, especially because the fighting was just like what you'd see in a Tony Jaa movie, so there really is a lot of cool action and fighting scenes here.

If you like the action/fighting movies that have come from Thailand in the recent years, then "Bangkok Adrenaline" is well worth sitting down for a watch. I was thoroughly entertained by the sheer action, and the poor storyline fell in the background, overshadowed by the great adrenaline-filled action.

Five is about fair.

A rather silly comedy adventure (that is instantly forgettable), though the fight scenes are well crafted. It's an okay movie really but a tad light-weight. Tighter direction was needed and a story wouldn't have gone a miss.

Bangkok Adrenaline

Warning: Spoilers
Four friends, who came to visit Thailand had run afoul with gangsters who demanded their money back, in which the four friends had lost in gambling.

The gangsters had come so close in chopping off their hands when they suggested that they'd pay back the money in a week's time. The leader surprisingly agreed.

They'd tried many things to get the money, but none seem to work. One member even resort to teaching teakwondo to schoolchildren! And another member had to be in fights but after deductions on his collections, the money was not that much.

So after exhausting all possible ways of collecting money, they decided to kidnap a daughter of a rich conglomerate.

Fun ensued! They'd have to ward off bodyguards, escaped from police detections. And worst of all, they have to take care of the girl they kidnapped! There a a lot of action scenes, lots of jokes, but sans storyline. Well, just the perfect recipe for a film suitable to be watched on a lazy weekend!

Perhaps the WORST movie of all time.
chad-707-7716518 April 2010
Absolutely the WORST action movie I have ever seen.

The script, acting, and the direction were all terrible. The plot is FULL of holes, jumps from place to random place, and the story is cheesy and almost non-existent.

The attempts to twist and add surprises to the plot were childish at best. I even fast forwarded the final 20 tedious minutes of the end of the movie to find out what happened.

Ugh. This is the first review I have ever written, and the only reason I did was to save others from this absolutely, horrifically, terrible movie.

At least the actress was cute.

Incredibly bad, but the action is decent
zetes14 February 2012
Four Europeans vacationing in Bangkok get indebted to the mob. To pay that debt they decide to kidnap the teenage daughter of a rich man. That backfires when they find out the rich man was going to kill his daughter anyway. Now he intends to pin it on them. This movie is pretty freaking awful. The plot makes little sense, the four heroes are just complete douchebags (they're only the tiniest bit less evil than the picture's villain), and not a single performer in the film can act worth a damn. However, it has one pretty big advantage that raises it above what would otherwise have been one of the worst movies ever made: good action sequences. Not great ones, mind you (they're edited a bit too rapidly, although for the most part you can tell what's happening), but they're fun and exciting. About the whole last third of the movie is made up of action, and it becomes quite watchable for a good half hour. Certainly not much to recommend, but I've seen worse.

Don't expect anything coherent in the story department. But that would be a real surprise now. I watch the movies for the characters, the fight scenes and some funny moments that occur. Looking at it like that, you have those elements in there. And you can see the effort they put in there, to go all the way (especially in the fight scenes, though not all our actors really get involved, plus it makes the beginning almost completely unbelievable).

I won't reveal the predictable little thing that is called plot here, though it wouldn't matter. What matters is how the fight scenes are. They are quite good for the most parts. The tone of the movie is unfortunately all over the place, jumping from comedy to action in a heartbeat, without making an effort. You might not care, but I did. Plus the acting was mostly non-existent (again something you might not care that much about, just saying)

Martial Arts done right
karalas1320 October 2010
First let me ask you a question when renting a martial arts flick what is the most important thing to you? If your answer was anything but for the fights then steer clear of this movie. If you are a true junkie for "kung fu" movies though this is a must watch movie.

With a leading actor that is believable in his moves who also happened to be the choreographer and the wonderful background of Thailand fights were often laid out in interesting ways. Quite a bit of parkour tricks laid out during chases including a very non flashy but if you follow parkour very impressive stunt.

In the story department this movie falls very short, do not expect a Once Upon a Time in China or House of Flying Daggers. If anything this movie makes the Tony Jaa movies seem like Shakespeare. The acting by many of the actors falls very flat but there are some honest moments of good acting, can't complain when for most of the cast this is their first time getting real solid screen time.

In short this movie is a prime example of Thailand taking the martial arts movie crown especially since so many of the Chinese greats went Hollywood.

*score marked down due to lack of story keeping it from being anything near a flawless movie though I would score it higher then some movies with a great story but the martial arts is weak in.

Truly terrible
duggersjunkmail10 March 2011
wow.

when it comes to martial arts movies, i'll watch (and enjoy) almost anything. but wow. this movie is truly awful. from conception to direction to acting to editing. Every action movie cliché is trotted out but executed so poorly it takes a minute to even figure out what they were trying to do.

when he's allowed to do his thing, the lead seems to have serious fighting and gymnastic skills but they are unfortunately wasted in this unwatchable student exercise. i couldn't even make it to the end.

save yourself. just watch ong bak again.

Proving westerners can be Tony Jaa
Heislegend26 March 2010
Please allow me to get one thing out of the way right from the start: If what Eli Roth makes is what people like to call "torture porn", then this film might as well be "action porn"...doing away with any pretense of a plot in the name of action sequences. It's certainly a bit lacking in story, but who cares? There's a very, very good chance you weren't watching this for the plot twists and deep philosophical implications. And that's just great, because everything besides the story is pretty badass.

The basic plot is 4 friends (all inexplicably with different accents) travel to Thailand and run afoul of some criminals while gambling. Two of the friends have some pretty wicked martial arts skills, one is enormous, and the other is...well...he's pretty much just some useless hippie-looking guy. Then there's a whole kidnapping thing that reminded me The Big Hit, but again, this movie is just a vehicle for pure, unadulterated violence. This, apparently, the only way Thais know how to make action movies (and I love them for it). As per usual with modern Thai martial arts movies the stunts and action scenes are very well done and...wait...was there any other reason to watch this movie? In any event, it's massive amounts of fun provided you don't expect it to be a thinking man's movie. Just sit back, open a beer (or 6) and enjoy.

Annoyingly Bad!
andell13 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, so lets sum up the plot pretty quickly: four Europeans get into gambling problems in Thailand, and decide to kidnap the daughter of a wealthy man in order to collect the money and solve their problems.

That pretty much sums it up, and although there are some minor variances, that's it. Indeed, at some points the film descends into obnoxiousness, apparently for no other reason than because it's depraved sense of humour swings that way.

For instance, the useless dread locked crack head (I still am not sure if he's French, German or English...at various times, his accent seemed to swing back an forth), watching a debtor having his fingers broken for not paying his debt as a warning, pipes in to remind the gangster that he hasn't broken enough of the debtor's fingers. I mean, WTF??? Yes, there's action...but the problem with martial arts films of this day is that they try so hard to look groundbreaking that at the end of the day, they look overdone.

So much energy expended to rotate ten times more than is necessary to kick the tar out of anonymous henchmen...kinda defeats the purpose of martial arts that were designed to maximize defensive technique with minimal energy expended! After a time, it gets so redundant that it's tiresome! I guess there are a few very pretty guys in the film, and so there is some eye candy...but not enough to save this dreck from being a stinker you should avoid!

excellent action flick... who needs a plot????
jae-greene9 January 2012
look, the story, acting, dialog... NONE of these things are why you would watch this movie in the first place! throw all that crap out and just sit back and enjoy the ride as the incredible stunts and fight scenes take place. the fights feature some incredible martial arts, fast paced, well shot and edited. this is NOT a Hollywood, or American movie at all. it is a movie made in thailand so u need to understand that there is a different format and sense of humor than films made here.

honestly if ur one of these overly critical film bashers then you WILL NOT enjoy this film. but being a stuntman and martial artist myself... as well as someone who enjoys Asian cinema and can just have fun watching action for actions sake... i loved it.

Respect to the creators
angelorohit14 August 2010
This movie is not bad at all! Its a very low budget film made by some amazingly talented stunt men in Asian Cinema. The basic plot revolves around a few foreigners in Thailand who gamble away their money and decide to make some more by kidnapping the daughter of a rich millionaire. Very ordinary plot by any standards. The comedy is good but the timing and delivery is very poor. Then, when you're just about to leave the theater and curse the fact that you wasted 10 minutes of your life, you get a glimpse of some good action from Daniel O' Neill. That leaves you pondering over whether the movie is really that bad. As you watch more, you realize that the acting gets worse, the comedy gets a little better but the action becomes glorious!

Of course, if you aren't interested in Martial arts, then this film is going to be a completely forgettable experience. Considering that the creators were all part-time stunt men who wanted to break big, I really do have respect for them. I want to see Daniel O' Neill in more movies.

Worth The Watch For Daniel Only!!
Movie-Misfit25 May 2020
This independent Thai film was penned by an Aussie, directed by a Dutchman, and led by Englishmen. Each of these men have clearly spent a lot of time in Thailand, and have gained the support of the film community there, but my god, I only wish they would have refined a lot of things here before starting production!

Bangkok Adrenaline is so badly written, directed and acted, you feel like its 90 minute running time doubles in length as you painfully sit through the dreadful comedy sequences, most of which director and co-star Raimund Huber is on-screen for along with co-writer and giant, Conan Stevens. Its completely unfunny, with poor comic timing and happens way too much. So much so, that apart from the lengthy (and messy) end fight, Huber focuses way too much on trying to be a comic actor than letting the action happen.

Conan of course, has starred in many Hong Kong and Thai productions, but even he is dreadful in this and doesn't get to do much in the way of action. The handsome Gwion Jacob Miles has the looks and the moves, but his acting isn't the best. That isn't helped by his trying to be a tough guy with a posh English accent...

In fact, the only saving grace of Bangkok Adrenaline is the gorgeous Daniel O'Neill who looks amazing on screen, in action, and in his brief on-stage strip-bar scene. He plays Dan, the leader of this group of friends who get into trouble with some gangsters, after gambling in Bangkok. The set out on a plan to kidnap a millionaires daughter to raise the money owed, and things get out of hand!

Gorgeous Dan, who plays Dan in the film, was lucky enough to get to Hong Kong in the early 2000's to be a stunt performer on Jackie Chan's Accidental Spy, and The Medallion before getting to fight the man himself in The Twins Effect. The English born actor and martial artist looks incredible in his moves, and I only wish we could see more of him - and preferably under the eyes of a better director.

Raimund Huber, who has a few martial arts action films behind him now, delivers a very uneven, messy and below average flick. The scenes between Dan's fights are both boring and drag on far too long. The direction on shots jumps from flat to WTF, with the camera work on some of the end fight being so close and personal, you lose sight of what is going on. The making of documentary on this release is shot better...

The team behind the fights and action is pretty decent, including a young Tim Man (who gets a brief fight against O'Neill), Ron Smoorenburg and more, resulting in some fun fights. If I were Huber, I'd stop getting in front of the camera, and re-edit this film into a short where the amazing Daniel O'Neill just fights his way across Bangkok to save his friends!

Overall: Painful to watch for the most of it, but worth sitting through to see Daniel in action!

A borefest
jrmoviemaniac30 January 2013
Where do I even begin with this crapfest:Very boring,Unlikeable characters,Action that doesn't thrill u,and a premise that has been done to death.I've seen a lot of films like this done better:The matrix,The Bourne films,Die hard, etc. Why was this film even made?In the 80s they made films with tons of action and great leads. Here you have foreign actors I've never heard of or care about doing stunts that aren't the worst but I've seen superior stunt work trust me.Even the title is lame:Bangkok Adrenaline? There is no Adrenaline in this movie.Someday someone would have to explain to me why a film like this even exists? To be honest the only redeemable thing in the film is the hot Asian chick thats it.Screw this worthless pathetic excuse of an action film.

Not nearly as awful as I was expecting.
lewiskendell25 February 2011
"Danger is my breakfast, tell me more."

If a bunch of frat boys got together and decided to make a modern, more "extreme" version of Ong-Bak, you'd get Bangkok Dangerous. It's so macho that it's downright goofy, and there's only the barest skeleton of a plot, but I have to admit that it was a pretty fun movie to watch.

The story is as basic as possible. Four Brits looking for a good time in Thailand get into serious gambling debts, and decide to kidnap the pretty daughter of a rich businessman and use her ransom to pay their way out of trouble. The scheme goes awry, and they end up having to protect the girl they kidnapped.

See? Basic. But with lots and lots of opportunities for fighting. 90% of the movie is one of the guys fighting someone or running from someone. Two of the main characters are capable martial artists, and do most of the fighting. Another is a really huge muscular man who just smashes things/people, and the fourth is basically supposed to be comic relief. Like most of the attempts at humor in the movie, it doesn't really work. He's more annoying than anything else.

The fighting is pretty cool, but at times, the choreography seems stiff and obvious. It takes you out of the action when you see people repeatedly prepare for blows, consciously make sure they're in the right place to be hit, etc. Still, the action was frenetic, non-stop, and enjoyable.

Bangkok Adrenaline is a long way from a well-made action movie, but I've seen much worse. Keep your expectations at a suitably restrained level, and you'll probably get some mindless kicks out of it.

Bad movie, great action
Leofwine_draca21 July 2013
Forget the acting – it's horrible. Forget the direction – it's perfunctory at best. Forget the story – it's non-existent, and so embarrassingly simplistic that a child probably came up with it. Forget the humour – it's as dumb as it comes.

Embrace the action – for action is what BANGKOK ADRENALINE is all about, and as a fluid, action-packed movie, it works pretty well. It's essentially one lengthy chase film, with a mixed bunch of western actors finding themselves beset on all sides by various criminal gangs, henchmen, mafia bosses and general corrupt people, and having to use their impressive martial arts ability to fend the bad guys off. There's no more to it than that, but for what it does, BANGKOK ADRENALINE works well.

Thai producers have obviously twigged that there's a demand in the west for the kind of action-heavy product that Tony Jaa popularised back in the day, because they've made this film with western actors and shot it largely in English. Personally, I wish they'd stuck with Thai actors, because the one thing you quickly notice when watching Asian movies is that the western actors always stick out like sore thumbs and also give the worst performances; this film is no exception.

Of the group, only Conan Stevens makes an impressive as a hulking giant of a guy, but as far as I can remember, he only gets a single fight scene. I know the Thais love these massive muscle-bound characters – who can forget Nathan Jones in WARRIOR KING, after all? – and Stevens needs more screen time. Instead he's bypassed in favour of the bland younger actors with the aforementioned sucky acting abilities.

Still, the action holds up and that's what counts for martial arts fans. The fights are mixed and widespread, throwing in stunts, massive brawls and a few one-on-one showdowns; the martial arts choreography is excellent, and there's a long-running bit of free-running thrown into the mix to keep things moving merrily along. BANGKOK ADRENALINE is certainly a step up from the disappointing and ultra low budget BANGKOK KNOCKOUT, and it makes me look forward to Tony Jaa's return to the big screen all the more

Daniel O'Neill - SUPERB SKILLS!!!!
nomadicmartialartist10 August 2017
This movie is only good for its martial arts action scenes and the amazing talent which is Daniel O'Neill. His performance and choreography is awesome and i can't wait to see more of him. He alone is what carried and made this movie.

My 10/10 is purely on the Martial Arts Action scenes, some of the best movie choreography of all time.
