. . . "Better not mess with Bob." The Bob to which this warning applies is Robert Louis Stevenson, of course. Many adaptations of such Stevenson stories as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Bottle Imp, The Suicide Club, The Body Snatcher, The Black Arrow and Kidnapped never saw the light of day, being curtailed by macabre mishaps, gruesome gaffs and catastrophic cataclysms if the shooting script deviated at all from Stevenson's original source material. Therefore, anyone with the least bit of familiarity with the original TREASURE ISLAND story will see at a glance that the Mel-O-Tune version from 1960 bears little resemblance to it. Doubtless this is why Bob's story credit is the only reference to anyone on the acknowledgement page here. One can surmise that everyone else involved perished in horrible ways, and their heirs erased any reference to their foolhardy Bob's Curse-defying relations out of fear for their own survival.
