Working from the end of what was a very eventful episode - mistresses, attempted murders, deaths and awkward sex - backward, there is a pretty gruesome execution scene near the end, watched over by a reluctant Catherine, where a man is stretched in four different directions. You don't see all of the detail, but what you do see is enough to set your imagination running wild - well, it set mine running wild, anyway. I guess it's true to form: the world back then was a cruel and violent place.
Bravo Colm Meaney - an actor I fondly remember from his roles in two Star Trek franchises and as one of the bad guys in the original Under Siege - for his portrayal of King Francis. He plays the somewhat-unstable monarch with great and manic kind of passion. Acting in "The Serpent Queen" is good right across the board. Liv Hill as the young Catherine is particularly good, especially in "The Price".
