A Thai time travel murder mystery
Tweekums3 November 2023
As this Thai series opens it is 1985 and a police sergeant named Peera is part of a team hunting a serial killer. Somebody has been strangling young women; on each one he leaves small dots on her ankle indicating the number of people he has killed so far. When the fifth body is found police are surprised to see six dots... is there an unfound victim or did somebody survive? Peere manages to corner the suspect in a tunnel. He is attacked and knocked out. When he wakes up something very strange has happened; it is now 2018! He heads to the police station after some confusion finds a fax concerning an officer transfer; he takes the position of this officer, also named Peera. He is partnered with Lt. Thanthai, a young officer who dislikes him from the start. Not long after his arrival the killings start again. He and the team, along with criminology lecturer Dr Danika, try to find the killer and Peera hopes to find a way to get back to 1985.

This series, the remake of a Korean series that I've not watched', works surprisingly well. It may look like 'Life on Mars' in reverse but this has less of a 'man out of time' feel. Instead he just gets on with the job hoping that solving the murders will be the key to getting home. The mystery elements are gripping and there are several tense moments when key characters are in danger. The characters are likeable and their interactions are fun to watch. There are some lighter moments and these provide some unforced laughs. The cast does a fine job bringing their characters to life. By the end of the final episode most things are nicely wrapped up so viewers don't have to wait to see if there will be further series. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of murder mysteries looking for something a little different.

These comments are based on watching the series in Thai with English subtitles.

Warning: Spoilers
This show was amazing, I recommend it for anyone who likes a good mystery. Even my husband, who doesn't really care for foreign shows absolutely loved it. Each night it was him wanting just one more episode. Our main character a police officer on the trail if a serial killer accidentally travels forward in time while in a tunnel. We travel with him well he tries to find not only the killer but his wife. He is joined by wonderful supporting cast. An old friend and some new ones help him on his journey. Personally I loved the little jokes along the way. Just imagine someone from 1986 stepping into our world. Lol, my favorite, the mysterious lady talking in the car ( gps). I will give only one obvious spoiler, he can't return home until he finds the killer. It was completely satisfying to watch.

A very well done series

I thought I should write because there was only one review available when I was trying to decide whether to watch the Thai series Tunnel. On Netflix it was available with subtitles, which I prefer compared to dubbing. This was my first Thai series and I think it is very well done. I enjoy stories about police investigations and these are good stories that proceed at just the right pace with just the right effects to stay interesting. I was very happy about the seamless inclusion of brief flashbacks to remind me of something said or done in a previous episode. The actors successfully create their own unique characters as well as comradery. There are clever plot twists, suspense, action and tender scenes that moved me. There was the advantage of watching another culture at work in another place, in this case a little different from other Asian movies I've watched. It was a pleasure to watch but I don't know if it will stand out in my memory tomorrow, so I'll give it an 8 out of ten.
