Welcome to another edition of It Came From 1980 X where we tackle movies from our favorite cinematic decade, the 1980′s, or movies that might as well be from that decade. Obviously we’re talking about the creme de la creme. The box office giants like E.T. or Raw Force. This entry is no different as we focus on the New York Horror Film Productions micro budget soon to be classic, Big Box, VHS/DVD combo package, The Turnpike Killer. Being from Jersey gives you a different perspective on a movie called The Turnpike Killer. Bodies dumped along the New Jersey Turnpike and murders originating in New York City… this is pretty much par for the course around here. All you need is Jimmy Hoffa, Giant Stadium and a goal post and you’ll be eating bagels and pizza in no time. C’mon, hasn’t everyone seen a dead...

Porkchop from Independent Entertainment and Alternative Cinema is a well-done satire homage to classic low budget 80s slasher cinema. Directed and produced by Eamon Hardiman, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, a location not to far from The Liberal Dead’s main headquarters in eastern Kentucky. The film revolves around a group of six young campers and a robot that retreat into the backwoods of West Virginia for a weekend of booze, drugs, and wild sex inside the abandoned Camp Wood. Soon, a weekend of debauchery turns into a fight for survival when the campers are hunted by a chainsaw-wielding psychopath in a pig mask looking to spill the blood of all those who roam into his territory. The film stars Ruby Larocca, who readers may remember from Evan Makrogiannis’ The Super, Erin Russ (Devil Sister), Ford Austin (Dahmer Vs. Gacy) and Brian Gunnoe. Porkchop will be hitting DVD on December 6th and digital markets.

The 2011 PollyGrind Film Festival recently wrapped up in Las Vegas, and the madman behind the scenes, Chad Clinton Freeman, checked in with Dread Central to share with us exclusively the winners of this year's fest.
Reveling in everything from arthouse to grindhouse to everything in between, PollyGrind has quickly made a name for itself as one of the up-and-coming premiere genre fests out there due to the success of each year of programming. This year's big winners (and flicks that will no doubt go on to find audiences soon) include the highly controversial The Bunny Game, The Super, Dear God No!, The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol and Ratline.
"I was very happy with the quantity of quality films and the diversity I was able to program this year," Freeman said. "Being able to world premiere films like Mondo Sexxxx: The Terry Kobrah Story and The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol,...

The 2nd annual PollyGrind assaults Las Vegas during an epic length film festival that runs Oct. 8-17 at Theatre 7 with enough sleaze and violence to make Sin City residents feel right at home.
Actually, the fest does open up on the 7th with a concert at Neon Venus with local acts like Monster Zero, Creepersin and many more.
However, the film portion of the fest opens on the 8th with Stuart Simpson‘s acclaimed Australian gorefest El Monstro Del Mar!, one of the best Russ Meyer/Roger Corman mash-ups with a Down Under twist. Read the Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film review of this gem here.
Other Bad Lit favorites in the lineup are Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s The Taint, which is still completely grossing out audiences on the festival circuit, and The Uh-Oh Show, the splatter-filled horror comedy by the Godfather of Gore himself Herschell Gordon Lewis.

The 11th annual Coney Island Film Festival, running Sept. 23-25, offers an exquisite blend of freak show, burlesque and cinematic oddities, featuring movies about reformed gang members, unwitting superheroes, rock ‘n’ roll heaven and tons and tons of short films.
The fest opens with the portrait of a real-life Coney Island badass, Keith Suber, a reformed gang member who now teaches kids that violence isn’t the solution to their problems in the documentary The Last Immortal, directed by Charles Denson.
However, the highlight of the festival — in Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film’s opinion — is the headbangin’ documentary Heavy Metal Picnic by Jeff Krulik and John Heyn, which beautifully relives the glory days of ’80s era rock ‘n’ roll Maryland in all its raucous glory. Featuring footage from an outrageous backwoods farm concert and a reunion among its (slightly) more mature participants. Read the official Bad Lit documentary review here.

The Reunion From writer C.B. Kaczor and director/screenwriter Jeff Stewart comes The Reunion which exhibits characteristics of crime drama, suspense and zombie thrillers. Think "The Wire" meets "Dawn of the Dead". The Reunion is a compelling tale of the human tragedy of a life of crime, followed by redemption and betrayal. Further pressures are placed on the characters by an unforeseen event, a zombie outbreak. Starring in The Reunion is notable scream queen Raine Brown who has appeared in such efforts as Sculpture, Horror, The Super, 100 Tears, and the upcoming Torture Chamber.

A new feature from S&Man and The Burrowers’ J.T. Petty is always an exciting event, and we’re very much looking forward to his new take on the possession sub-genre, Hellbenders. Fango spoke to the film’s makeup FX artist, Brian Spears, who dropped some hints about what to expect from the flick.
“It’s about rogue priests who fight evil and do exorcisms—sort of like The Hangover meets The Exorcist,” Spears, who previously contributed FX to Petty’s on-line Burrowers prequel Blood Red Earth, tells us. “I guess you would call it a horror/comedy; when I read the script, it read straight, but it’s definitely funny and off-kilter. When the horror comes, it’ll be horrific, but there are also lighter moments.”

Featuring Demetri Kallas, Lynn Lowry,Manoush, Ron “Necro” Braunstein, Ruby Larocca, Raine Brown, Brandon Slagle, William McLaughlin
At some point in our lives, all of us are expected to brave the terror of falling out of the nest and trying to fly on our own.
For some of us, that means college; for others, immediate employment or attempting to get it. But regardless of future plans or goals, it usually involves scrounging together rent money and curb-diving for couches that don't smell like urine, and we wind up living in shady apartment buildings. Add to that the real estate market of New York City, where for a few thousand dollars a month you can live in a shoe box (parking space fees not included), and you've got the general feeling of despair and hopelessness that permeates The Super.
