A stunning journey

"Threnody" opened the International Film Festival Ireland and I was there to watch it! The spectator is staring at a breathless plot that brings the spectator into a world in which communication and information is totally controlled. A man will be sent to try to restore that freedom of speech. For his very first film, the director impresses by an artistic maturity: tortured characters, suspense and breathless action; all delivering an important message. I'm sure we'll see much more of this cast and crew's work.

To anyone who has the possibility of seeing this film, well, just enjoy.

Big Brother is Watching YOU!!

Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film in Europe in September, and boy did it make me think about where this country, the USA, could be headed. It reminded me a bit of the Terminator movies in that we could be destroyed by the very things we have created. But unlike the Terminator movies, it's not machines that will destroy us, but a government that continues to grow beyond our control. As government gets bigger and more powerful and more intrusive the weaker and more dependent we become. Could it come to this? I believe that it's already starting to happen. As for the movie's plot, there is a resistance movement that gives the viewer hope that in the end, the people will rise up and take back control against tremendous odds. Will good triumph over evil? That's the million dollar question. I thought that the script was very good and for what I'm guessing was a small budget, the effects were surprisingly effective. One can only wonder what this writer could do with a larger budget and a feature length script. I suggest that you find this movie on-line or wherever it's available, and watch it. The future doesn't look so bright if this movie rings true. Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

A glimpse into the future?

Watching Threnody at Ireland's International Film Festival made me wonder if Writer/Director Sean Buttimer had a sneaking suspicion about the fate of our country ...

Threnody, an artfully constructed film about the consequences of a North American Union left me at the edge of my seat .. literally! The acting and the direction, as well as the storyline, pulled me into a realm that seemed rather real, almost as if the events in the film were based on a true story. A totalitarian takeover is an element in Buttimer's film that really grabbed me, scared me even!

Alas, I must say that if fate has it and you can get yourself to a screening of Threnody, by all means do so!

Don't forget to order your nutrient pill at the concession stand!
