A really fun challenge, but the runway wasn't my favorite and the lipsync was quite meh, with a really questionable choice
antonyno-1125029 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think this acting challenge was super smart to do and executed really well, with no one who was really weaker than the other ones. I think all the placements were right, so I was super happy with Angeria's win.

On the other end, the runway wasn't really my favorite, and the looks ( except for 3/4 of them ) were ok at max. I think the problem here is that JLo doesn't really have any iconic look except for the Jungle dress and two others. Although, what I didn't really like of this episode was the lipsync outcome: let's be real, Alyssa killed it, and in my opinion her problem with the money machine wasn't enough to let her sashay away. But I love Kerri, and I'm happy that she stayed to slay another day. A good episode overall.

RPDR Meta-Inception
Zhow29 January 2022
Whatever you can think of the recent evolution of production in RPDR, you can acknowledge with this episode that the writers were able to play with their own references and make something funny in this episode. The objective was for 2 teams to play in mini-scenes for a caricature of RPDR trailers and they managed to create funny stuff. I must admit that a large majority of acting challenges are quite bad in this show: the themes submitted to the contestants don't provide funny material and even the best actors couldn't make them entertaining. But by proposing to self-reference the show, the producers expected the queens to create stuff based on their in depth knowledge of the series and use what has become cultural references to transform it into good scenes. Kudos to the producers and the editors for being able to acknowledge their usual real TV tricks and let the queens play with scenes from past seasons.

The RPDR franchise is an overproduced TV show with a lot of contradictions: the show promotes love and acceptance, yet it puts the contestants in uncomfortable situations with some shady edits; some members of the fan base are quite toxic and take everything they watch as the "truth", harassing queens on line. So it's very hard to take RuPaul and World of Wonder seriously when they preach about "everybody says love". This episode doesn't really address this issue but at least, it shows that the producers are aware of the reality TV shticks they use over and over. And they let the queens have fun with these tropes (cat fights, tearful confessions, stupid challenges, childhood trauma, etc.).

It was funny. And most of what is supposed to be funny in RPDR (acting challenges, Snatch Game,...) is rarely funny. So just for that, it's an outstanding episode.

Great acting challenge for once, but suspicious judging
leppards-1791312 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was hilarious! It goes to show that the queens really need more freedom when it comes to challenges like this. The skits were actually funny because the queens got to write the scripts! I also really enjoyed how meta this episode was. The teasers felt like a parody of the actual show's teasers. I enjoy that self-awareness and 4th wall breaking in TV. I also found it clever that several clips from the fake teasers ended up in the actual one.

As for the placements, I don't think Kerri deserved to be lip-synching. Kornbread was worse, as much as I adore her. I actually agreed with guest judge Loni Love on what she said to Kornbread: Plus-sized queens are always making food jokes, and it's getting old. So far, Kornbread only seems to have food jokes, and I'm glad Loni pointed it out to her.

For the lip-sync, Kerri definitely didn't win that. Alyssa danced circles around her and sold the song. Then again, Kerri didn't deserve the bottom two to begin with.

BEST ACTING CHALLENGE IN A WHILE
sj458029 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Another really great episode, I thought the acting challenge was fantastic, the queens should really be given more opportunities to write their own script instead of the producers. The runway was also really strong, no real flops. The lipsync wasn't the best ngl but it was okay.

I only have one critique of the episode: the edit- Jasmine getting so much screen time at the beginning to be invisible in the challenge with no real closure, Camden getting little to no screen time, Deja being HIGH without camera time. I think Kerri shouldn't have been in the bottom also, but the judging is almost always going to be slightly off.

Excited to see next week's episode, really shows how much better this season is than season 13.

Drag Race as its Most Self Aware
arthurtheeillustrator29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This challenge is a flat out parody of Drag Race itself, and the show had fun with it. From creating fake dramas, overracting, crocodile tears, this episode is nothing but pure camp entertainment. This episode was so good, they used every clip to use for the season's trailer.

WOW, one of the best drag race episodes to date
thefendiprint29 January 2022
The acting challenge this week was probably one of the best I've ever seen from the series; the supertease idea was fresh and actually very funny (considering a lot of the acting challenges in general). The winner was unexpected but deserved, and the bottom ultimately makes sense in the scope of the challenge.

Why even have a lipsync if the outcome is rigged?
puchalski-3475429 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The acting challenge was good but its overshadowed byt the absolute bs that was the judging this episode. Kerri didnt even deserve to be in the bottom and more importantly WHY WOULD YOU PUT A QUEEN IN THE BOTTOM AND THEN DECLARE HER A WINNER OF A LIPSYNC SHE CLEARLY LOST?! Also they knew what theyvwere doing bc the edit trying to show as little of alyssa was just....

Rigged Lipsync
joojishibuki29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When even the girl saved from elimination was surprised that she stayed over the eliminated contestant, you know that lip-sync was rigged. The treatment of contestants with English as their second language has always been an issue on this show. When Alyssa was opening up about her struggles with connecting due to the language barrier Ru cuts her off. When Kornbread has a moment he lets her have the opportunity to express herself and grow. Alyssa won that lip-sync regardless of the money gun fail. Guess they're gonna push Kerri to the end. No hate to the girls just very disappointed with the production.

Produced outcome
Grawdey29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Way to edit the absolute F out of the lipsynch to save the producer's favourite. It's insulting to the audience to not represent the challenging queens.

In my opinion, JLO does not have enough memorable fashion looks to be relevant for this category. Coupled with the fact that she didn't make it to set, it just seemed really forced. Like, honestly JLO?!

Thanks, I hate it.
jacksonweeguy29 January 2022
The production is insufferable at this point. The challenge was just another drag-race-reference-filled nightmare with minimal funny moments. The queens are SO GOOD but it just seems like they aren't being shown in an authentic way. The challenge was edited in a way to confirm who the producers wanted in the bottom and who they wanted to win, while erasing some queens entirely. The runway was also weird because it was pretty much just an ad for Jlo's new movie. This season will need some serious changes to avoid becoming a lackluster, production-heavy season like season 11. Overall, this episode felt very rushed with the "scripts" and challenge being filmed in one day and the runway being filmed the next. I guess they need to rush through another season so they can keep pushing out season after season of drag race franchises. Quantity does not equal quality.
