Good fun retro-action swashbuckler.

Warning: Spoilers
An enjoyable unambitious modestly budgeted historical action movie.

The limited budget is apparent in the small scale of the scenes requiring extras. Otherwise this movie looks good and some of the costumes are excellent and none appear too tawdry. The story is in the genre of romantic action hero along the lines of Robin Hood.

There are multiple side-threads woven into the story, involving relationships, tragedy and comedy. All the cast turn in a decent to excellent performance. The principle continuity figure throughout is neither the hero nor any of his adversaries but the classic "fool" of a servant somewhat reminiscent of Sancho Panza in Don Quixote.

A good length but not overlong. Would be suitable as family viewing except for some elements (such as graphic fight scenes) that might make it unsuitable for the younger viewers.

The comedy element was sharp enough to get some laughs out of me even in sub-titled format (I don't speak Spanish).

Our starring friend even involving into love intrigues , as Gonzalo de Montalvo meets his sister-in-law , Margarita (Inma Cuesta ) and they fall in love and while faces off the jealous as well as mean Marquesa Lucrecia (Miryam Gallego) and her proud child Nuño (Patrick Criado) . A new spin-off on Zorro but the production aesthetic has much in common with the likes of modern efforts . This is an imaginative , glamorous , fun fantasy based on the wonderful adventures carried out by a bunch of heroes , such as Gonzalo De Montalvo (David Janer) , his son Alonso de Montalvo (Guillermo Campra) , the rogue servant Sátur (Javier Gutiérrez) against ominous enemies , such as : El Comisario (Francis Lorenzo) and Cardinal Mendoza (José Angel Egido) . This Spanish historical action-adventure Kingdom of Blood (a.k.a. Águila Roja) is a familiar , satisfying and agreeable yarn , the most popular Spanish television series to have aired in recent years , and tells the violent and heroic tale of the enigmatic swordsman known only as 'Red Eagle' . Set long time ago , during Felipe IV (Xavier Elorriaga) kingdom and starred by a group of likable , attractive characters headed by Gonzalo De Montalvo . Here occurs several adventures , complex as well as embarrassing plots , multiple side-threads woven into the tale , and lots of twists and turns. As the protagonist group will have to confront deal of dangers and adventures and will fight heinous roles.

This attractive movie blends action , historical events , suspense , fights, fencing , martial arts , intrigue and results to have a lot fun . This is a far-fetching but acceptable story about an intrepid teacher/swordsman helped by a roguish squire , Sancho Panza-alike , just to discover weird incidents and save his family ; and both of them will fight all kinds of risks to get their purports . From start to finish sword-play , romance , fantasy , action , duels and delightful adventures are unstopped. All the main cast and support cast turn in a so-so to decent acting . There is budget enough , just amusement enough to cover production gaps and some flaws . As important teams of re-enactors and extras were used for soldiers in battle sequences , expert stunts for the impressive leaps , as well as groundbreaking recreations of ancient moments . Fine special effects mostly made by means of CGI and likeable performances by the leads manage to keep this one afloat .Compellingly written and produced by Daniel Ecija and well financed by Globo Media , this Spain's top production company has produced a nice film . In Spain , this company produces top series , including : ¨The Boarding School¨ (El Internado) and ¨The Boat¨(El Barco) , which are also being distributed in other territories . On the film side, its titles include ¨A Night In Old México¨ by Emilio Aragón starring Robert Duvall.

I love the serie. And I hate the film. Because all seems forced, fake, predictable and artificial. Sure, the prize is the meet with the heroes from the serie. But it seems be the only good point. And the low budget or the desire to use the succes of serie are not the reasonable explanations. Something missing. But, maybe, the bitter taste is only result of the enthusiasm for the adventures of Aguila Roja who, in this film, remains only a Robin Hood prisoner of a too naive line. conclusion - it is a wise thought to not transform each serie in glory in a film with poor succes.
