I sende a shift
mviken9112 August 2023
I quit Billions four episodes out into S6. I left it there and never looked back. Thought of it as a series that never got a good closure. To my surprise Damian Lewis is back for S7, so I jumped on board and watched the first episode. My expectations were low. Bottom low.. I hadn't seen the rest of season 6 and didn't even bother and actually felt I hadn't missed out on anything important that I didn't catch in this episode. But what I noticed is that there is a shift in the series. The writers seem to have understood that Billions without Damian is garbage. This episode wasn't anything but a huge build up for something. But it feels like we're back. Back where Billions should be. I'm a little excited, not too much (the writers killed my excitement in S6). But excited.

Axe Is Back
douglasmcbroom11 August 2023
After an absolutely horrendous Season 6, Billions is possibly on the road to a return to previous form. Axe (Damian Lewis) is back and that is huge, as he and Chuck (Paul Giamatti) were always the heart and soul of this series. The writers completely neutered Chuck in S6 as they did with 'Wags' (David Costabile), but both characters have returned to their old selves. We still have the imperious jerk Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) and the absolutely insufferable Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon), but it appears that the tide has turned against Prince and that will be fun to watch.

Unfortunately, the radical Liberal politics are still at play and the luster that was once NYC is long gone, but, at least there is hope for this final season that was completely gone in S6.

Homage to the pilot

I felt the opening scene was explosive and made me want to know more. The opening credits of Wendy walking was a bit long but I guess they had to let the people who didn't know. Damian is BACK! I don't want to spoil it by explaining my title of this review. But everything is in place like a well played chess game opening. I'm eager to see how the pieces move around the board this final go round. I will give a slight hint about my title. It was interesting to see Chuck take the same approach Booby did in the first season. I love the way Wendy's character has morphed into moral compass for Wags and Taylor. If you don't binge watch the series and get to just watch this first episode. It'll force you to watch the series.

Dunno about this episode
Saadsak16 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It moved at a cracking pace with Mike Prince being revealed as the Dark Lord and rest of the cast joining forces in their search for the true king. And then Bobby Axelrod quietly revealed that he had provided the money and munitions that had enabled the Ukrainian armies to advance onto the Moscow Metro station.

All great stuff and very well acted. And I dare say that in an episode or two Bobby will be persuaded to run for the presidency, which has to be to the good. After all, he has better manners than Trump and he isn't dead like Biden, but I am not sure that will be enough to carry the show for another season.

Trying to get thru S7E1
debpurch-2231419 September 2023
Frankly, I never really took to Billions. Right away, I was put off by the never-ending, pretentious, sophomoric, and ultimately embarrassing pop culture references and the blatant pandering to NYC restaurants and similar name dropping. It was like, "Look at who we know and how cool we are!" There was never an authentic conversation, merely boring sequences of one-liners.

That said, I grudgingly stuck with the series through S4 because the storyline was interesting. As for S5 and S6, which I also kinda watched, all I can recall about them is: Taylor got even weirder, Chuck and Wendy split, Mike Prince may actually be the b*stard son of Lex Luther, and Axe took a hike.

Paul Giamatti (Sideways, John Adams!!!) Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers) WTF?

Forced, just felt like a poor excuse to continue the series

I don't want to give anything away but basically a bunch of the old gang want to bring back Axe because they fear Prince's presidential run. They think he's Hitler. LMAO.

A totally lame premise but hey, it would just be a total retread of the past 6 seasons if there wasn't SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

I mean they seem to double down on the pop culture references which always annoyed me. Can someone tell, do all the people in the world of Wall Street use pop references? Using a bunch of lame metaphors to pop music, sports and movies/TV? Heck they even use a reference to Marcus Wellby MD in one, and the 50 year old actor says "whoever that is". Uh, you know who he is.

But other than the twist "we need to stop Prince!!" nothing is different. Chuck is back at his job, also to get Prince!!
