Joe Pasquale: Live & Squeaky
jboothmillard5 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I had seen clips of him on TV in my younger days, then I saw him win I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! against Paul Burrell, and I saw An Audience with..., but I had never seen one of his old stand up shows, so this was my first. Joe Pasquale here plays to what seems a small audience in a small theatre, but does everything he can to make everyone laugh with his unique style. I recognised a few of the jokes I had seen from clips, all told in his infectious squeaky voice, it is a blend of both Christmas cracker style jokes, a little slapstick, including the appearance of Raynard (Ray Tizzard) with the pig-snout nose created by an elastic band, some Tommy Cooper style comedy magic where it is funny if it goes wrong, prop gags and much more. I was hoping it would be a little bit more sophisticated at times, but for the simplest of jokes it is quite enjoyable. Joe Pasquale was number 90 on The 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, and he was number 88 on The 100 Greatest Stand-Ups 2010. Worth watching!
