This fascinating documentary shows esteemed Paralympian Ellie Simmonds investigating a new drug being trialled that promises to ease the "suffering" of children with achondroplasia. It's a difficult subject although the drug is far less a threat to "dwarfism" than other contemporary practices like genetic screening so the whole framing feels quite clickbaity and dramatic. In deference to this Simmonds serves as a tremendously pragmatic guide and a fantastic lens to see the issue through. Her serenity and patience made me feel that more than anything it showed the real impact good mentorship can have at a young age - more valuable than any treatment on its own is an environment that creates such a well-adjusted and even-handed person as the host of this doc.
