In the first time I watched this film, I gave it three stars. By re-watching it, I changed my mind and gave it four. Off course it is unpretensious, not serious, but has hilarious moments. The sketches remind Nelson Rodrigues's style, but much better as they are free of that mysoginy. Another interesting trait is the way cinema and theater merge with each other, as the story was originally a play. Domingos de Oliveira cinema is very innovative due its ridiculously low budget (sets are usually the home of friends), its selfness-driven approach (something that reminds a lot what, in a different way, Woody Allen does), and its experimental path (the end of this movie s a good example of that). Domingos de Oliveira made an independent and authorial cinema and that was a great merit. Other of his movies nay have been deeper than this one, but is is a good example of his style, anyway.
