Slow paced, but socially relevant.

Warning: Spoilers
Raat Rani takes us through the emotional journey of Lalzari as she goes through the various stages of grief. At first she tries to overlook the problems in her marriage, but when the fragility gets exposed and she gets the shock of her life, it shatters her world. In the next stage, she desperately tries to piece together her broken marriage, but all her efforts go in vain and we see her world go dark. Finally we see her accepting her fate and resolving to move on, which ultimately leads her on the path of liberation. As a short film, 'Raat Rani' doesn't really entertain you, nor would you feel tempted to watch it again. You do feel angry over the events taking place in Lalzari's life and it makes you happy when she finally decides to empower herself. It is perhaps the story of so many women, who are forced into a space of uncertainty when their husbands decide to kick them out of their lives. Fatima Sana Shaikh does a beautiful job of portraying the various stages of grief that she has to go through. Stories like these, once again highlight the importance of educating your daughter, as that would empower her to live a life on her own terms, a life that is not dependent on anyone but herself. The director has used metaphors to illustrate the changes taking place in Lalzari's life, which I felt was a nice touch. Raat Rani's screenplay doesn't really engage you or excite you, but as a social commentary it works quite well.

Not for the conformist

Thrilling and uplifting. A very different and realistic take on modern love - not interhuman and not subject to class-washing. More of this kind of stuff please!

The plot that goes nowhere
cool_jojo_00722 May 2022
A woman and man are together. Man leaves woman. Woman moves on in life.

That's the plot. If this is not the DEFINITION of wafer thin I don't know what is. Adding upbeat folk music won't make it a masterpiece like Amelie nor Life is Beautiful. That requires an actual plot and a lot more conviction than simply trying to enforce a "crossing the flyover" metaphor.

Fatima Sana's performance is well beyond the borders of over acting and dramatization. Feels like a performance in a street play of a public service message than an actual normal person. In fact, halfway through the episode it became quite clear why her husband left her. She clearly has ADHD and is overtly hyper over seemingly nonsensical things. For a non biased viewer, it could have been confused with her character being on cocaine the whole time she was on screen.

There isn't enough to salvage an emotional response out of the viewer because simply, the treatment wasn't convincing. Wish more of the time was spent on montages of the past/existing relationship with Lali and Lutfi were shown to give some foundation, rather than showing mindless shots of Lali crying and/or laughing like a maniac every time she is on her cycle.

Not a great start to a show.

Sad, repugnant garbage.

The director and editor forgot to do the single most important thing for a project like this - delete it.

This cheesy, unnatural garbage should never have been conceived, let alone produced. It's unoriginal, out of depth, over acted and under cooked.

Shame. Ruined my evening.

Dull and boring
sonusabir1217 May 2022
There's no story for a forty minutes episode.

There's no conviction in the script, the plot is so simplistic that it does not evoke any emotion.

Thee story does not go into any depth of the relationship, it is shallow and superficial.
