Amanda Seyfried is amongst the latest names to have joined "Pan," Joe Wright's live-action Peter Pan prequel film at Warner Bros. Pictures. Seyfried will play Mary in the film which begins shooting next week in England.
Described a new take on the origins of the character from the beloved J.M. Barrie tale, the film will follow an orphan boy (Levi Miller) who is spirited away to the magical Neverland, where he discovers both adventure and danger.
Also hopping onboard are Jack Charles ("Mystery Road") as The Chief/Tiger Lily’s father, Taejoo Na ("The Kick") as Kwahu, Nonso Anozie ("Son of God") as Bishop, Kathy Burke ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") as Mother Barnabas; Kurt Egyiawan ("Skyfall") as Murray, Lewis MacDougall ("In the Name of the Children") as Nibs, and newcomer Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy Darling.

The film stars Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman (“Les Misérables”) as Blackbeard; Garrett Hedlund (“Inside Llewyn Davis”) as Hook; Oscar nominee Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) as Tiger Lily; Adeel Akhtar (“The Dictator”) as Smee; and newcomer Levi Miller as Peter.

Warner Bros. announced the start of production on Joe Wright's Pan, a film said to be an origin story and darker take on J.M. Barrie's beloved character Peter Pan, and with it comes a list of the entire cast. Previous announced cast members include Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard; Garrett Hedlund (Inside Llewyn Davis) as Hook; Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) as Tiger Lily; Adeel Akhtar (The Dictator) as Smee; and newcomer Levi Miller as Peter. The casting of Mara as Tiger Lilly gained a certain amount of scrutiny, but it would appear the rest of Wright's cast has been filled in with a rather eclectic group of actors, including Australian Aboriginal actor Jack Charles (pictured) playing Tiger Lily's father known as The Chief. Other members include Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables) as Mary; Taejoo Na (The Kick) as Kwahu; Kurt Egyiawan (Skyfall) as Murray; Lewis MacDougall...

Stars: JeeJa Yanin, Cho Jae Hyun, Phettai Wongkamlao, Ye Ji-won, Tae-joo Na | Written by Jong-suk Lee | Directed by Prachya Pinkaew
The Kick has one hell of a pedigree. Directed by Prachya Pinkaew, who lensed to international hit Ong Bak, as well as the well-regarded Chocolate – whose star JeeJa Yanin is also in this – the movie features a wealth of Thai talent, including Cho Jae Hyun from The Isle and Phetthai Vongkumlao, who is one of Thailand’s biggest comedians.
But the real star is Tae-joo Na – in only his second ever film role – who shows the same type of martial arts skill that made Jackie Chan famous, mixing slapstick and fighting with consummate ease; and the scene in which he tries out to be a K-Pop star, blending dance with martial arts, are breathtaking.

Director: Prachya Pinkaew. Review: Adam Wing. Thailand's top action movie director Prachya Pinkaew - the man behind Ong Bak and Chocolate - delivers another breakthrough in action cinema with The Kick, the first Thailand-Korea joint production. Cho Jae Hyun (Bad Guy), Ye Ji Won (Hanji), and taekwondo athletes Kim Kyung Suk and Na Tae Joo, form a family of Korean taekwondo masters living in Thailand. The Kick pits them against a gang of ruthless criminals, in an endearing action movie that mixes comedy, choreography and crocodiles to blistering effect. You can't have a Thai action movie without the presence of Petchtai Wongkamloo, the pintsized comedy sidekick whose smart mouth gave Tony Jaa a run for his money in Ong Bak and Warrior King. Wongkamloo is joined by the ever-so-striking JeeJa Yanin, kick-ass heroine of Chocolate and Raging Phoenix fame, who still manages to impress despite an alarming lack of screen time.

From Up on Poppy Hill
Film
Like Studio Ghibli’s best work, From Up on Poppy Hill is driven by the intimate and beautifully realised relationships between the characters. In addition, there’s a wonderful cast of supporting characters, who while not quite as strange as those that inhabit Spirited Away’s bath house, are certainly as well rounded.
It’s also driven by the soundtrack, much more than most Ghibli movies. The studio have always had recognisable themes, but much of the incidental music, beautiful though it can be, is left to recede into the background. Here almost every cue comes to the fore, giving the movie a sense of musicality that’s rather appealing.
In spite of being insubstantial by Ghibli standards, the movie is far from vapid, and it’s certainly entertaining. The dialogue used on the English language dub works well, and the voice cast,...

Thailand's top action movie director Prachya Pinkaew - the man behind Ong Bak and Chocolate - delivers another high-octane hit with The Kick, the first Thailand-Korea joint production. Cho Jae Hyun (Bad Guy), Ye Ji Won (Hanji), and taekwondo athletes Kim Kyung Suk and Na Tae Joo become heroes when they inadvertently stop a crime ring from stealing a national treasure, which doesn't go down particularly well it has to be said. If that's not enough to whet your appetite, Chocolate's Jija Yanin, who was originally trained in taekwondo, co-stars as well. The Kick smashes its way on to U.K. DVD on 7 Oct 2013. This film may contain scenes of a kick-ass nature. Synopsis: After the son of a family of taekwondo experts foils an attempt to steal a priceless Thai artefact, the family becomes national heroes - and targets of revenge by the criminal gang whose robbery the son foiled.

Hong Kong studio Star Alliance has a new martial arts action movie in the works titled Monkey: The Masked Warrior so naturally we had a rummage around to see what we could find on the project. It’s currently still in pre production but we do know is its being directed by Thai duo Sirisak Koshpasharin and (produced by) Sangar Chatchairungruang, whose credits include the Muay Thai action flicks...’The Kick’ and ‘Fireball.’ The icing on the proverbial cake is some rather nifty teaser art. Hong Kong production values, with Thai martial arts know-how...this could be good. More as always, when we get it. Synopsis: Tai owns a small unique Thai restaurant called 'Hanuman' selling only 'Tom Yum Kung' in the center city of Shanghai. He was quiet soul, full of mystery but he is kind to the locals and always supportive of people in the community. Life goes...

Thai director Prachya Pinkaew and choreographer Panna Rittikrai return with more martial arts action in “The Kick”, which sees a family of Korean taekwondo masters taking on criminals in Thailand. The men who gave the world the hugely popular series “Ong Bak” serves up more of the same, with high-octane action going hand in hand with crazy stunts and top notch athleticism, though this time with more comedy and a family friendly appeal. The cast is made up of a mixture of Korean and Thai stars, including Cho Jae Hyun (“Bad Guy”), Ye Ji Won (“Hanji”), real life martial artists Kim Kyung Suk and Na Tae Joo, and Thai comedian Petchthai Wongkamlao. Excitingly, the film also sees Pinkaew working again with the sensational Jija Yanin, who he first introduced back in 2008 in the awesome thriller “Chocolate”. The knockabout plot sees the Moon family from Korea running a restaurant in Bangkok,...

Thailand/South Korea 2011 Fantasia imdb
Traditionally, films that pit one country’s martial arts against the martial arts from other countries are blood-soaked chauvinistic affairs like One Armed Boxer and its sequel Master of the Flying Guillotine. Both great films, they up the ante on the Kung Fu bragging rights by having the hero Tien Lung (Jimmy Wang Yu) beat the champions of Japan, Korea, Thailand, India and Tibet with literally one arm tied behind his back – or chopped off, depending on how you look at it.
The Kick is a much more gentle film, turning the battle between Korea’s Tae Kwan Do and Thailand’s Muay Thai into a family comedy and adding Thai star Jeeja Yanin to the winning Korean side to salve any hurt Thai feelings. (Almost deliberately, halfway...

For those that are confused (which would obviously include me) the column that has the url: http://www.soundonsight.org/fantasia-2012-mike-ryans-five-most-anticipated-films/ is actually my column on the five films that I am most upset to be Missing.
This is my column on five seven films that I am most looking forward to:
1) Takashi Miike (For Love’s Sake and Ace Attorney)
For Love’s Sake (2012) Written by Takayuki Takuma, Ikki Kajiwara, Takumi Nagayasu, Directed by Takashi Miike
You really only need three words to sell For Love’s Sake: Takashi. Miike. Musical.
But here are a few more words…
Takashi Miike is beloved by the Fantasia crowd for pushing the boundaries of genre filmmaking in films like Audition, Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer, but I tend to prefer Miike when he is working in a specific sub-genre where he is forced to subvert the conventions at play in more subtle ways,...

It’s been a while since we seen Thai international superstar Tony Jaa, best known for his work on the groundbreaking Ong Bak films & 2005′s Tom Yum Goong or The Protector in the west. After his 2011 return, Jaa started production re – teaming up with action director Prachya Pinkaew. This is his third film along side him and fans worldwide are expecting big things from this film.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Jiro Dreams of Sushi Trailer Is it nutty that this is the kind of trailer that makes me love documentaries as an art form? No...

Since we’ve already seen the South Korean trailer for the “Ong Bak” director’s upcoming martial arts flick “The Kick”, it’s only fair that we get one from a Thai point of view. More importantly, the latest clip allows us to see “Chocolate” star Jeeja Yanin in action. From where I’m seated, the flick looks like a lot of fun, and I’m definitely curious to see how Pinkaew tackles the world of Taekwondo. I’m sure he’ll have no trouble at all making everything severely badass. Need a plot synopsis? Well, here you go: Couple and former Taekwondo champs Moon (Jo Jae-hyeon) and Yun (Ye Ji-won) settle down in Thailand and open a Korean restaurant and Taekwando school. Their three kids are interested in different things; the teenage boy is crazy about Kpop, the girl loves football and Thai dance and only the youngest boy shows any interest in Taekwando.

The Kick Trailer. Prachya Pinkaew‘s The Kick (2011) movie trailer stars Jeeja Yanin, Mum Jokmok, Brahim Achabbakhe, Cho Jae-Hyun, and Yea Ji-won. The Kick‘s plot synopsis: “Couple and former Taekwondo champs Moon (Jo Jae-hyeon) and Yun (Ye Ji-won) settle down in Thailand and open a Korean restaurant and Taekwando school. There, the family made friends with Mum and his niece Wah Wah (Jeeja Yanin), a talented muay Thai boxer. Their live changes when the family and their friends become involved with Korean mobsters who’ve stolen some ancient daggers.”
This is a much better and thorough than The Kick (2011) teaser trailer. Jeeja Yanin kicks a lot of ass here plus more of the humor of the film is shown as well.

Ong Bak director Prachya Pinkaew has imported a slew of Korean talent to Thailand for his latest feature, The Kick. Choosing to focus on the art of taekwondo rather than his signature fight style of muay thai for this one the only one of Pinkaew's regulars who appears in this latest effort is Chocolate's Jeeja Yanin in a support role - taekwondo being her first discipline - with the leads handed to a group of highly skilled Korean fighters. The plot is overly familiar to anyone who has ever seen any of Pinkaew's previous films - a precious object is stolen and the heroes have to get it back, this time it's a knife instead of a Buddha head or elephant - but the execution...

I’m not going to set this one up too much, as I’ve already covered director Prachya Pinkaew’s “The Kick” to the point of serious cinematic oversaturation. And I wouldn’t want to be accused hyping a motion picture too much. Prachya Pinkaew, the director behind movies like Ong Bak, Chocolate and The Protector is a busy man. The number of projects that have been announced with his name on them is pretty large. So anytime one of those projects moves from just being announced or talked about to actually putting out a trailer, poster and photos it's cause for celebration. His latest is called The Kick and it's a Thai and Korean co-production with stars from both countries. Chocolate and Raging Phoenix star Jeeja (or Jija) Yanin teams up with Jo Jae-hyeon, who you may recognize from the Kim Ki-duk movies he's starred in like Bad Guy or The Isle.

The Kick teaser trailer is pretty funny. Reminds me of Shaolin Soccer and The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.
The first teaser trailer is focused on showing us the family members in action rather than revealing too much about the plot. It’s essentially a stylised Taekwondo demonstration between two thin slices of banter.

Yesterday we gave you the images, today we present the teaser! Below you’ll find the first clip for “Ong Bak” director Prachya Pinkaew’s “The Kick”, a Korean actioner focused on the art of Taekwondo. The video you’re about to watch doesn’t give you anything story-wise, but if you enjoy watching people perform martial arts in slow motion in front of a black background, then you’re probably going to swoon. The clip ends with a bit of weirdness, as someone gets electrocuted while attempting to brain a guy with a frying pan. Confused? Me, too. Before proceeding, take a look at this plot synopsis: Moon is a Taekwondo master running an old Taekwondo gym in Bangkok. All five members of his family are also the masters of Taekwondo in different styles: his wife Yoon in cooking style, son Taeju in dancing style, daughter Taemi in soccer style,...

Prachya Pinkaew is bringing a taste of Korea to Thailand with his upcoming feature The Kick. Perhaps intrigued by his Chocolate star Jija Yanin's training in taekwondo the Ong Bak director enlisted the help of fight choreographer Master An of the Korean Tigers and the skills of stars Na Tae-joon, Kim Kyung-suk, Cho Jae-hyun and Yi Ji-won to step away from his trademark muay thai based action and into the world of taekwondo.Moon is a Taekwondo master running an old Taekwondo gym in Bangkok. Thai director Prachya Pinkaew’s South Korean Taekwondo flick “The Kick” is looming on the horizon, so it’s really not that surprisingly that a plethora of promotional material has found its way online. A trailer would have been extremely nice, though I suppose this nifty new poster and its accompanying pics will have to suffice for now. However, those hoping to get a glimpse of “Chocolate” star Jeeja Yanin will be thoroughly disappointed, as the nimble actress is nowhere to be found. Shame, that. Here’s what the film offers, story-wise: Moon is a Taekwondo master running an old Taekwondo gym in Bangkok. All five members of his family are also the masters of Taekwondo in different styles: his wife Yoon in cooking style, son Taeju in dancing style, daughter Taemi in soccer style, and the youngest Typhoon can break anything with his strong forehead. Moon wants his children...
