Mediocre German economy thriller

"Ein mörderisches Geschäft" is a German film from 4 years ago directed by prolific German television filmmaker Martin Eigler (with help on the script from Sönke Lars Neuwöhner). Given the cast of Paul, Striesow, Heinrich (nice to see, liked him on "Wolffs Revier") and von Thun, the outcome is fairly disappointing though. Most of the dialogs are really more self-aware than contributing much to the story. Some of the economic references were just too difficult to grasp for somebody with little interest in the matter and some of the central characters' roles remain mysterious even after the film ended, even if the final shot of Paul's character leaving was a thing of beauty.

The death of a central character (around minute 60, two thirds into the film) comes a bit surprising just like several of the final developments. It felt as if they tried to pack too many twists into too little time near the end. The actors are all solid, but cannot save the sub-par script. Not too big on the love story development either. Not recommended.
