Batman is a versatile character. He has worn the faces of saviors and destroyers, been the Dark Knight in caped armor, the financial support of the Justice League, and occasionally, even a father figure. Despite this, there is one thing that has stayed constant through most of his versions; the bat does not kill.
Batman: The Animated Series starred Kevin Conroy
Kevin Conroy, who played the character for almost three decades, understood this fact about the character perfectly. He maintained a sort of consistency throughout all of the versions he played, and it seemed to be quite intentional. Specifically talking about the ‘no killing’ rule, it would seem that the voice actor upheld it almost as strictly as the Caped Crusader himself.
So much so, that he was upset with one of the most controversial decisions taken in the Snyderverse; Ben Affleck’s Batman killing people.

When Is Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 105 Coming? Kaiju No. 8 has been doing really well lately, especially with its latest storyline, The Last Wave Arc. This arc seems one of the best since the manga began. It focuses a lot on the side characters, which is exciting, and there are many action-packed scenes too.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any official spoilers available for Chapter 105 of Kaiju No. 8 yet. This is pretty normal for series published in Shonen Jump+ because they release digitally, which makes it hard to get spoilers before the chapter comes out.
But if you’re eager to know when Chapter 105 is dropping, don’t worry. As here in this article we have got all the details you need, including the release date, time, and where you can read it.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences doesn't always get it right. Actually, you can count on them to just about never get it right.
This is especially true of the lead acting categories, where voters often become prisoners of the moment and vote for the buzziest and/or showiest performance. This is how Al Pacino's chilling depiction of Michael Corleone's descent into pure, dead-eyed evil in "The Godfather Part II" gets passed over in favor of Art Carney's amiable portrayal of a lonely old man hitting the road with his pet cat in "Harry and Tonto." This results in overdue Oscars, which frequently create new injustices — like Denzel Washington's bravura turn as Malcolm X losing to Al Pacino's ceaseless hoo-hahing in "Scent of a Woman," which led to Washington getting his Best Actor trophy for his (admittedly entertaining) grandstanding work in "Training Day" (which cost...

Mark Gatiss’ revival of A Ghost Story for Christmas, a British strand of one-off specials infrequently aired around the holidays since 1971, continues with what is possibly its best entry yet: Lot No. 249. The League of Gentlemen alum has maintained a substantial interest in horror, much like comrades Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, but unlike the Inside No. 9 duo, Gatiss digs up neglected works from classic British literature — before now, namely M. R. James — and reintroduces them to contemporary audiences.
In Lot No. 249, Kit Harrington plays the prying university student who acts on suspicions about his odd neighbor (Freddie Fox). The Egyptologist in question is not only guilty of certain “perversions” he is also using a reanimated mummy — the story’s otherwise nameless namesake — to carry out his wicked plans. This includes murdering his various rivals on campus. The protagonist later intervenes, only to then make a startling, if not belated realization about his enemy.

Former Wta No. 2 Anett Kontaveit is unlikely to take up a coaching role in tennis in the near future because she is currently studying for a University degree.
Kontaveit was forced into retirement earlier this year after exhausting all possible means of treating a chronic back injury. At the age of 27, she hung up her racket in one of the most shocking early retirements in tennis in recent memory.
Roughly 18 months ago, Kontaveit sat at a personal best ranking of World No. 2 - the highest peak by an Estonian tennis player. But unfortunately, top sport, as she put it, is about "tearing the body apart," and she played her last professional tournament at Wimbledon in July.
During a recent Q&a session on her Instagram account, Kontaveit was quizzed on whether she would work as a tennis coach now that her playing career was cut short. The six-time Wta titlist...

Nick Oliveri has announced two career-spanning compilations, N.O. Hits at All Vols. 8 and 9, continuing his running series of the same name. Both arrive January 19th via Heavy Psych Sounds.
As a teaser, Oliveri offered up the Vol. 8 opener “Chains and Shackles” — the first official release of a 2010 collaborative track with Slash.
The song originates as an outtake from Slash’s 2010 self-titled album and is finally receiving a proper release on Oliveri’s comp. His unhinged snarls and Slash’s frenetic riffing call back to the stoner-punk that the former contributed to the early Queens of the Stone Age albums. The track was even produced by Eric Valentine, so that sound is definitely there.
“Slash wrote the music and Eric Valentine and myself wrote the words,” said Oliveri in a press release. “I feel the song is hard-driving and it has the right amount of uncensored dirt, filth, sex,...

Telling ghost stories was a Christmas tradition in Victorian England, and in recent years author / actor / playwright Mark Gatiss – who has been a Doctor Who writer and co-created Sherlock with Steven Moffat – has been paying tribute to that tradition by directing ghost stories for the BBC to air at Christmastime. This year is no different, as The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news that Kit Harington of Game of Thrones and Eternals has signed on to star in Gatiss’s latest Christmas chiller, the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle adaptation Lot No. 249.
Freddie Fox (The Great) joins Harington in Lot No. 249, which centers on a group of Oxford students, one of whom undertakes research into the secrets of Ancient Egypt which become the talk of the college. Can these experiments truly breathe life to the horrifying bag of bones which is the mysterious Lot. No 249?

There are only two days left until Cannes 2023 comes to a close, and much like yesterday, things have seemed a bit quiet. The movie on most everyone’s lips, at least if social media is any indicator, was Trần Anh Hùng’s period drama “The Pot au Feu,” a feature that, according to TheWrap’s Ben Croll in his review, “might very well be the most handsomely shot and soothingly felt serving of art house food porn ever brought to screen. It’s about to become your mother’s favorite film, and it’s an absolute delight.”
But before the screening started, as Variety reported, a demonstration in support of Indigenous land rights took place on the film’s red carpet. It was led by the directors and actors of “The Buriti Flower,” a film showing in Un Certain Regard directed by Portugal’s João Salaviza and Renée Nader Messora.

Ed Sheeran announced on March 1 that he’d be releasing a new album, “Subtract,” on May 5, and just three weeks after that announcement (and more than a month before its release), the album has already climbed into the top 10 in our Grammy odds for Album of the Year based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Check out or latest odds here, and make or update your own predictions here in our predictions center as the season progresses.
Sheeran is already a four-time Grammy winner, including a Song of the Year victory for his love ballad “Thinking Out Loud.” He also has three past noms for Album of the Year. The first was in 2014 as a featured artist on Taylor Swift‘s “Red”; they lost to “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk. The second time was in 2015 for an album of his own, “Multiply”; “Morning Phase” by Beck ended up taking the prize.

EntertainmentBy using the term ‘North East’ multiple times through the film, Anek ends up playing into the majoritarian tendency of clubbing the entire North-Eastern region of India into one homogenous entity.Chitra AhanthemHindi film director Anubhav Sinha’s latest outing Anek, meaning ‘many’ is a case of good intent (perhaps) gone bust. And that is the best that can be said about this Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer about a police official and his covert operation of working out a peace accord between an insurgent group and the government of India. For the most part, Anek reels under the weight of being a mainstream film that speaks for the North-East with the opening credit making a show of highlighting the ‘Ne’ in Anek. By doing so, it falls into a grave of its own digging for North-East is a mere geographical direction. The constant use of the term throughout the film ends...

Most Notorious Chinese Blockbusters Of All Time
Are you a fan of Chinese films? If so, you are probably familiar with the country’s notorious blockbusters. The Chinese film industry reportedly grossed $12.8 billion in 2018, compared to the $60.1 billion reported by the global movie industry. Like the US film industry, the China film industry took a big hit from the Covid-19 pandemic. The country was forced to close around 2,300 land-based cinemas in response to the Covid-19 shutdown. This is not to mention, the country also shut down film production to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Chinese officials have called for the reopening of land-based cinemas across the country. The country’s film market is expected to fully recover, but no one really knows how long it will take. The time has come to find out the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards. While the 2021 Oscars ceremony was originally set for February 28, the Academy decided to delay the event to late April to accommodate the pandemic upending much of the theatrical release calendar in 2020. Because of the pandemic, the eligibility window for the 2021 Oscars was extended from January 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021, two months longer than normal. The Oscars are also allowing films that debuted on streaming or PVOD platforms to compete for Oscars, so long as they originally planned for a theatrical release.
Last year’s Oscars were a historic event as Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” made history in a number of top categories, including becoming the first non-English-language movie to win Best Picture. Bong also became the first Korean filmmaker to earn the Best Director prize. Many in the industry viewed the “Parasite” Oscar wins as a watershed moment for the Academy,...

The shortlists for the Academy Awards’ two music categories are out, and while there are few surprises among the 375-member music branch’s 15 choices for best original score, there’s a remarkable shift in the original song category: Nearly half of the 15 songs on that list emerged from narrative films or documentaries whose casts or subjects were predominantly Black.
Most of these songs had already been tagged as leading contenders, even though it was hardly a certainty they’d all make the shortlist. Among them: Janelle Monae’s “Turntables” from the voter-suppression doc “All In: The Fight for Democracy,” Mary J. Blige’s “See What You’ve Done” from the prison-sterilization documentary “Belly of the Beast,” John Legend’s “Never Break” from the young-actor doc “Giving Voice,” Leslie Odom Jr.’s “Speak Now” from “One Night in Miami,” H.E.R.’s “Fight for You” from “Judas and the Black Messiah” and...

When Mohammad Rasoulof won the Golden Bear at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival, the Iranian director wasn’t there to accept his prize. Since 2017, when he returned to his home country after living abroad, Rasoulof has been banned from traveling internationally, and sentenced to a year in prison on propaganda charges.
However, the government has yet to imprison Rasoulof, permitting him to continue making the sort of brilliant, incendiary movies about life under Iranian autocracy that put him on the map. “There Is No Evil,” the final movie to screen in the Competition section of the Berlinale, turned out to be its most triumphant achievement — a defiant statement and galvanizing work of art.

Barbara Steele is a horror mainstay who, like Vincent Price and Christopher Lee, found a place in the genre during the gothic heyday of the 1960s and made a comfortable home there for years. Also like Price, Steele has a look that, when the time calls for it, she can manipulate to ooze sinister intentions. Somehow she can turn just a little extra cock of her eyebrow into a visage that makes the audience squirm, and she’s employed this knack for the malevolent over the course of several decades in films like Black Sunday, Piranha, and Shivers. So when I went diving into Steele’s filmography, I wanted to find something that tapped into that evil streak, and I found it tucked in a little Italian gothic noir film from 1963 called The Ghost.

After “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix took Hollywood to task at the BAFTA Awards over the lack of diversity in this year’s awards season nominees, urging his counterparts to “do the hard work” to dismantle racism, many in the industry immediately took notice, and Cynthia Erivo is no exception.
Erivo is nominated in the lead actress and original song categories at Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony, the only black nominee in the Academy’s acting categories. Last month, the “Harriet” star opened up to Variety about the 2020 BAFTA Awards yielding all-white acting nominees, saying “it’s time for change” and explaining why she turned down the organization’s invitation to perform her song “Stand Up” at the ceremony.

Madrid — Rolling off the success of “El Pueblo” on both Spain’s Amazon Prime Video and Telecinco, the main commercial channel of top Spanish broadcast network Mediaset España, the U.S. online giant has clinched pay/TV and Svod rights to four Mediaset España dramas and two docu series.
The deal was sealed between Amazon Prime Video and Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group, the broadcaster’s sales and distribution arm.
Announced Tuesday in Madrid, the agreement takes in the second season of rural relocation comedy series “El Pueblo,” whose Season 1 bowed May 14 last year on Amazon Prime Video, and then on Jan. 15 on Telecinco, to buoyant audience results.
“El Pueblo” turns on a group of urbanites who flee the city for different reasons – existential and economic crisis, need for fresh air, search for peace, inspiration to compose – and the conflict in the way of living between them and their new rural neighbors.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are considering sitting down for a “no-holds-barred” television interview about their decision to step back from their royal duties.
Tom Bradby, the anchor of Britain’s ITV News and a friend of Prince Harry and Prince William, has said the couple could talk candidly about their reasons for effectively resigning.
In an op-ed for The Sunday Times, Bradby wrote: “I have some idea of what might be aired in a full, no-holds-barred, sit-down interview and I don’t think it would be pretty.”
Bradby did not expand on what Prince Harry and Markle would reveal, or hint at where the interview might take place. British tabloid The Sun speculated that the pair could speak to Oprah Winfrey, with whom Prince Harry is making an Apple TV+ series on mental health.
Bradby himself has landed some notable interviews with the young royals. In a documentary last year,...

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations for the 2019-20 awards season. The DGA prize is often considered a bellwether for the Best Director Oscar and the last six DGA winners all went on to repeat at the Academy Awards: Alfonso Cuaron for “Roma,” Guillermo del Toro for “The Shape of Water,” Damien Chazelle for “La La Land,” and Alejandro G. Iñárritu for both “The Revenant” and “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).” The last DGA winner that did not win the Oscar was Ben Affleck for “Argo.” Affleck was famously snubbed by the Academy, but “Argo” did go on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
This year’s DGA race features two of the season’s biggest heavyweights: Martin Scorsese (“The Irishman”) and Quentin Tarantino (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”). It’s important to note that the five DGA nominees don’t always...
