Return of the Quality
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic29 September 2020
After a strange run of relatively weak filler episodes from the start of Season 4 right up we finally return to the great quality I expect from Clone Wars. In fact this Umbara arc is not just regular high quality Clone Wars it is absolute top level brilliance.

Even this first episode of the arc, which has to take time to set up the rest of the story is an thoroughly absorbing, interesting war drama with great action, great tension, great characters and stunningly great animation.

It starts with some cool action and really good depiction of the relationship between Anakin and his clone troops.

General Krell, an unlikable and tough Jedi leader then takes over from Anakin on a mission when Anakin is called away. Krell clashes with Anakin's devoted Clone troopers and we get deep drama as well as impressive battles.

An incredibly interesting and enjoyable adventure that leads into the next episode which is even better!

My rating: 10/10.

Star Wars At Its Best
solojere4 December 2020
Simply put, Darkness on Umbara is Star Wars at its best and one of my favorite episodes. Honestly, this whole arc is as good, if not better, than some of the live action films. The action is excellent, and the story is simply amazing to the point it's hard to believe this was just on cartoon network. Seeing the 501st in action with the AT-RTS is every fan's dream. Plus, Rex and 5s play so well off of each other, and Krell is a fantastic new character who is quite complicated.

One of the best WAR episodes!

A great introduction to one of the best arcs in Clone Wars! The Umbara arc! The episode itself is just a fantastic war drama with great visuals! The landing in the beginning is really great! There is no music so all we hear are clones yelling, blasters going off and explosions! Also really good directing! Great inclusion of Krell's character as his perspective helps us to see the clones as more than just.. clones and cannon fodder.

2nd best arc of the show.
jetdo-144097 August 2022
Everything about this arc is phenomenal and is a reminder of when clone wars is does it right it can be the best star wars content in the franchise. The fighting is jarring and the most intense in the series, Clones are humanised in a way that we have never seen before, and who doesnt like rex's character development. I really cant fully express why i love these episodes so much.

Fantastic as usual

Warning: Spoilers
I never had high expectations for the clone wars because of it being animated and a kids show.

Well how does a Tv show about a galactic war where soldiers constantly die mean represent a kids show.

If you are thinking about watching the clone wars please do it's simply fantastic.

The whole umbara arc is special and visually amazing. And as I go through seasons it just gets better and better.

One of the best arcs of the Clone Wars series
soleserm1 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
All four episodes of the Umbara arc are just brilliant. I always believed the clones were one of the most intriguing elements in the Star Wars universe, yet in this arc I think the production team had topped the expectations. Despite the brilliance of its fellow arcs of Ryloth (3 +1 episodes) and the Geonosis second war (3 episodes), the Umbara arc has certainly reached the highest top.

All main clone characters had ultimately "come to life" in a most perfect way, the story was a hook by itself (the devoted and legendary 501st led by Anakin, finds itself amidst a change of leadership and a seemingly unbreakable resistance by the local Umbarans), the way all main characters are being developed throughout the arc, the battle scenes, the emotional and moral conflicts, and many, many more, that can make one feel like he's watching an excellent 3D war movie, based on a truly deep story.

On a different perspective, this is the first time the Clone Troopers reveal their true abilities on adapting to the circumstances -and very difficult ones- trying to accomplish their mission and do their duty, not as "creatures bread in a laboratory" in order to just "follow orders" and "support the system in which they too belong", but as individuals believing in the grater value of the freedom of choice against blind obedience to a cause they were "bread to serve". It's the nobility to be able to fight and defeat the enemy, not because they were "engineered" so, but because they have come to understand their own value, their own contribution to a world struggling for democracy and justice.

Being a good soldier is one thing; being able to feel the deeper meaning of a purpose not yet clear until recently, Rex, Jesse, Fives, Hardcase, even Dogma, they all give a brilliant example of valour, honour, ingenuity and effectiveness both in the battlefield and in person, the way it has never been seen before in the series.

There is also the counter example of a "bad Jedi", master Krell, who's humiliating behaviour and defiance towards these loyal soldiers, does bring justice to this "human-inhumane" idea of clone troopers bred exclusively for battle, in a strange planet, trained for 9 years only to be thrown in the meat grinder. Krell acts as an indirect "moral generator"; in most episodes, a clone killed in action is not much of a deal, as they were bred to give their lives for the republic. But in this particular arc, the death of a clone gets the appropriate significance, even for the die-hard, loyal soldier and smart leader Captain Rex.

No matter how many times I watch these same episodes, I never get enough. It's like I always seem to enjoy every single minute of the action.

Beware the Darkside

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode Anakin is called back to the Jedi Council at the request of The Chancellor and replaced by General Pong Krell. The key words are "At the request of the Chancellor." The following episodes reveal a very dark path.

Very good series this is.
