The Ultimate Homage to GOODFELLAS
cinematicheroes28 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Pure and simple, if you love Martin Scorsese's GOODFELLAS you will absolutely love NO, YOU AIN'T ALRIGHT. Auteur writer-director Michael Ringston shows his love for both Scorsese and his mob masterpiece that was nominated for six Academy Awards.

Without going into too much detail, the plot centers around Groom-to-be, Charlie (played nicely by Steve Abbott), who is informing his Best Man, Joe (Giuseppe Divita) that he found out his Bride-to-Be had an affair years earlier with a member of his wedding party. What does this have to do with GOODFELLAS? Well, watch this entertaining short, listen to the dialogue and find out.

The scene is also shot curiously like the scene between Robert DeNiro's Jimmy Conway and Ray Liotta's Henry Hill in the diner near the end of the film. So, there is that, also.

One other thing to look out for is a cute performance from the Waitress in the scene, played by Samantha Tuffarelli, a rising actress on the New York indie scene. Tuffarelli, who's had larger parts, uses this character as a brief, but entertaining, humorous and memorable turn.

All in all, if you get a chance to see this fun short at a film festival near you, I highly recommend it. And then, afterward, you can go home and get your shine box ... or just pop in your GOODFELLAS DVD, whichever you prefer.

Good Homage Film
mkelso200031 May 2012
Nice short film that had funny references to Goodfellas. As a big Scorsese fan I really liked it. I'm glad to see my fellow actor Sam Tuffarelli in another film. She made the most of her part. She's had bigger parts but I enjoyed her in this, Especially the delivery of the final line. Writer/Director Michael Ringston does a nice job emulating specific shots from a crucial scene in Goodfellas. Actor Steve Abbott and Giusepee Divita do an admirable job with their performances. Overall a cute and clever idea for a short film. I was fortunate enough to see it in a preview screen but I recommend seeing it the first chance you get at a local film festival. Go Sam

Interest Short with Interesting Cast and some Clever Shots

Warning: Spoilers
As a huge fan of Martin Scorsese, and of his Oscar-nominated mob masterpiece, GoodFellas, how could I NOT like this film? I also enjoyed the way it was filmed, totally like Diner scene in the last third of GoodFellas, between Robert DeNiro and Ray Liotta. Writer-Director Michael Ringston must obviously be a fan of Scorsese's gem, to choose to make a snappy, witty short film based on this material. Moreover, to frame the scene the way he did conveys this point, as well. As a filmmaker, I noticed all of these homages, and I appreciated them. I actually loved the waitress in the short, played excellently by Samantha Tuffarelli. Obviously, she is classically trained, and I see from her IMDb page, has a few other projects in the hopper. She is a fine example of how you can get noticed in both a smaller part AND a smaller Indie film. Many actors have been noticed from just one line or one scene in a studio movie, one who comes to mind is Mena Suvari, who nabbed her role in "American Beauty," after doing a small scene in the Natasha Lyonne vehicle, "Slums of Beverly Hills." In addition, I enjoyed the performances of Steve Abbott and Giusseppe Divita. A fun little festival film!
