Warner Bros. Discovery is making cable network TruTV a regular home for sports, adding a weeknight sports block and shifting established franchise Impractical Jokers to TBS this summer.
A mix of live sports, original sports programming and ancillary sports content will start appearing on TruTV next Monday, March 11, under the banner “TNT Sports on TruTV.” The block will start at 6 p.m. Et and run through late night.
The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, aka March Madness, gets under way the following week. Wbd, which shares in March Madness rights with Paramount, often makes use of TruTV as a home for early-round tournament games.
The push toward daily sports programming comes as Wbd, Fox and Disney have embarked on a joint sports-focused streaming venture. The Jv, scheduled to launch this fall, will bring 14 linear network feeds to subscribers via the internet. Apart from the NCAA tournament, TNT is...

The great shake-up in cable TV continues, with Warner Bros. Discovery’s TruTV the latest channel to be overhauled.
The channel, best known for its comedy and reality shows, will shift its primetime lineup to a new sports slate beginning this coming Monday, March 11.
Moving forward, TruTV will be home to exclusive live games (including games in the upcoming March Madness college basketball tournament and MotoGP races) as well as alternative broadcasts of NBA, MLB and NHL games on TNT and TBS. It will also simulcast some of those games, as well.
Alternative telecasts (like ESPN’s Monday Night Football “Manningcast” or Amazon’s Dude Perfect Thursday Night Football option) have become quite popular in recent years, as sports broadcasters seek to bring in new, younger fans to their live events. Leagues, likewise, support having more coverage of their games.

Warner Bros. Discovery wants to bring one of its “zombie” cable networks back to life with a big jolt of sports.
The media company intends to create a new nightly sports block for TruTV, the reality-series cable network that has largely been left to show endless episodes of the popular prank show “Impractical Jokers” and the caught-on-camera serial “World’s Dumbest.” In doing so, Warner no doubt hopes to create new value where there has only been a little. A new sports schedule would likely draw broader viewership and new ad dollars to the network, and might even spur cable distributors to accord the outlet more value in future carriage contracts.
The sports schedule will not consist only of simulcasts of NHL, MLB and NBA matchups that typically turn up on the company’s flagship TBS and TNT cable networks. Warner intends to air new “alterna-casts” that target different audiences; a...

Non-sports-specific channels from each media company will be included on the streamer, but the specifics must still be worked out.
Earlier this month, Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery shocked the entertainment and sports worlds by announcing that the three companies would be coming together in a joint venture to launch a streaming service that will unite all of their sports broadcasting rights. The new platform is slated to launch this fall, presumably in time for the new college football and basketball, NBA, NFL, and NHL seasons, all of which will feature heavily on the streamer. The companies announced that the service will offer livestreams of all of the channels owned by the three media giants that show sports, and while that seems fairly straightforward, considering that not all of the companies’ channels exclusively air sports content, it does raise questions about what viewers can expect to see from the...

Comedy series “Tacoma Fd” has been canceled at TruTV after four seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The series originally debuted on the basic cabler back in 2019. The show was part of the network’s push into original scripted series, alongside other shows like “At Home With Amy Sedaris,” “I’m Sorry,” and “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters.” However, TruTV’s original programming lineup has been winnowed down to virtually nothing in the past few years, with the only original series still on the network being the hidden camera show “Impractical Jokers.”
Likewise, fellow TNets like TBS and TNT — all of which fall under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella — have gone from notable rosters of scripted shows to having none. Most recently, the TBS comedy series “Miracle Workers” was canceled after four seasons. That show featured a cast that included Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived anthology horror satire “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters,” which aired on TruTV back in 2018.
Although these days it’s known mainly as the channel on cable that plays “Impractical Jokers” all day, every day, back in 2018, Tru TV sought out to try some different programming. After successfully pulling away from their line up of reality shows, the network aimed to deliver a hefty line up of original comedy series, many of which ended up being damn good.
Among the line up introduced, there was “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters.” Comedian, actor, and director Goldthwait is no stranger to the horror genre (I loved his found footage film Willow Creek), and was the mastermind behind this delightfully unusual horror anthology series. Every week, “Misfits & Monsters” told a variety of half hour stories, all of which were a healthy mix of dark comedy,...

Life isn’t a sprint but an actual marathon as Beck Bennett’s Pat finds out in the new Comedy Central movie Office Race. The film, which premieres September 4, sees the Saturday Night Live alum play an unmotivated slacker who works for a financial app company called Aardvark. Pat’s fitness fanatic boss Spencer, played by Joel McHale, tasks him to secure an investor Rita (Erinn Hayes), or risk losing his job. To get in her good graces, Pat joins Rita’s band of characters that make up her running group and trains for an upcoming marathon. A rivalry builds with Spencer to the point Pat challenges him to beat him in the 26.2-mile trek. Adding to the hilarity is a cast that also includes Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother). Here director Jared Lapidus, who co-wrote the movie with...

As the Writers Guild of America and the studios continue their ongoing dispute into its third week, the scale of the strike is becoming unprecedented. But because the strike primarily affects scripted content, streamers may rely more on unscripted shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “The Voice” to fill the gap.
Although most streaming services have a stockpile of scripted content to be released throughout these dry months, the longer the strike continues, the more likely it becomes that the delivery of new scripted content will slow and eventually run out down the line. The lack of new scripted content could increase the consumption of unscripted shows as viewers search for alternatives to their usual binge-watching selections. A lot of TV companies are judged by how quickly they can introduce new shows. Warner Bros. Discovery thinks it may find some gains by developing new ways to introduce audiences to series and content that already exists.
The strategy has been playing out in open view on some of the company’s biggest cable networks. Audiences watching NBA basketball games have been pushed to sample series such as Food Network’s “Tournament of Champions,” HGTV’s “Rock The Block” and Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” And some portion decided to follow the programs back to their original homes for more. According to company research, 12% of TNT sports viewers who sampled “Tournament” went on to watch it on Food Network. Likewise, 10% of basketball fans that tried “Rock The Block” followed it to HGTV while 7% of viewers who tested “Deadliest Catch” watched more of it on Discovery.

Such is the situation facing Brian “Q” Quinn of TruTV’s Impractical Jokers. Like every American pop culture addict born before 1980, Q is a big fan of Sam Raimi’s 1981 gore-tastic opus The Evil Dead and its winsome shotgun-wielding star Bruce Campbell. Unlike most people born before 1980, Q has a job that regularly brings him into contact with very famous people … like Bruce Campbell. You see where this is going.
Since original Joker Joe Gatto left midway through the long-running prank series’ ninth season, remaining Jokers Q, Sal Vulcano, and James “Murr” Murray have welcomed a new guest star in each episode. The show’s 10th season, which premiered Feb. 9, has enjoyed the likes of Post Malone, Kesha, Kal Penn, and more. With this season’s 9th episode, airing April 13 at 10 p.

The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Super Mario Bros. Movie actor Chris Pratt once appeared on Live with Kelly as a co-host. He showed up looking correct for the job at hand, displaying a humble and down-to-earth side of himself off the silver screen. Pratt accidentally gave away a sizeable travel prize, but he didn’t retract his statement. Rather, he agreed to pay for it along with Kelly Ripa.

Warner Bros. Discovery has taken a divide-and-conquer strategy when it comes to “Impractical Jokers.”
The show, a programming mainstay on the cable network TruTv for ten seasons, has been airing on both Tru and TBS since launching its most recent cycle in early February of 2023. During that run, the show has largely seen viewership increase on TBS week over week, according to data from Nielsen, except for the week of March 2. While its run on Tru has been a little choppier over its first month on air, viewership of the episodes has widened noticeably when viewership over a three-day period is taken into consideration. The launch of the tenth season has also boosted viewership of linear repeats as well as streams on HBO Max, according to Nielsen data reviewed by Variety.

Imagine being one of John Mayer’s most dedicated fans and being invited to an intimate concert, only for it to go off the rails thanks to an overbearing producer. That’s exactly what happens on the latest episode of the hidden camera reality show Impractical Jokers, which Consequence is previewing with the exclusive teaser clip below.
In the episode, James “Murr” Murray’s punishment is to antagonize Mayer’s fans while the singer-songwriter is giving an acoustic performance of his signature hit, “Your Body Is a Wonderland.” Besides cutting off Mayer mid-strum to tell him the backstage producers want “a little bit more” from his performance, Murr calls him “Johnny.”
To the further annoyance of fans, Murr is then instructed to move people out of the first row. A visibly fed-up Mayer finally says, “How about we don’t interrupt ever again!” Leaning further into the joke, Mayer kicks...

The Impractical Jokers are special. Hidden camera prank shows were nothing new when they first hit the air, but they found a way of doing it that has kept them going for over a decade. Much like Penn & Teller, the Jokers have constantly provided a brand of entertainment that everyone is used to, while finding ways to always make it feel fresh and new.
After the departure of Joe Gatto, a laundry list of celebrity guests have come in to fill some gaps. Now as Sal Vulcano, Brian “Q” Quinn, and James “Murr” Murray told Den of Geek, the list for Impractical Jokers Season 10 is growing even larger. Post Malone, Anthony Davis, and Bruce Campbell are just a few of the killer names to join in this go around. But, there is one surprise celebrity that the guys are super psyched about and we were shocked to hear about.

Exclusive: Before the three creators of TruTV’s Impractical Jokers promote the 10th season premiere of their hit unscripted comedy, Sal Vulcano, Brian “Q” Quinn and James “Murr” Murray have a confession to make: there’s actually no real meaning behind the title of their long-running sketch show. In fact, there’s nothing remotely impractical about the show’s premise, which involves the three lifelong friends embarrassing each other in public with outrageous dares.
“That name was thrust upon us in the early stages of the network,” admits Vulcano to Deadline. “We were like, who even uses the word impractical? It felt so clunky to us. To be honest, out of the gate, the show was originally called Mission Uncomfortable. When Impractical Jokers first came out, I was like, ‘we are going to be mocked roundly.’ It was the most clunky, unfunny, confusing name that I ever heard.”

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.

Another month means another streaming service overhaul: prepare for another round of disappearing movies and TV shows, just when you were finally gearing up to watch them. But on the bright side, that also means a bunch of new titles coming in to fill that void. As always, Hulu has plenty of titles — both old and new — to make sure it remains one of the dozen subscription services we all keep paying for.
Among the incoming titles are three different series set to close things out with their finale seasons: Hulu's widely acclaimed "Wu-Tang: An American Saga," the FX crime drama "Snowfall" and the recently canceled ABC drama, "A Million Little Pieces." The streamer is also daring to give Netflix a run for its money when it comes to the world of true crime docuseries. The first season of "Taiwan Crime Stories" will probe at the motives behind four true-life incidents,...

February can be a weird month. It’s too late to wish anyone “Happy New Year,” late enough to abandon resolutions, and too early to leave the house if you want to avoid getting caught in nasty weather (even in Los Angeles).
This month also marks the third and final season of Hulu’s widely acclaimed “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” which charts the rise of the Wu-Tang clan over time. Season 3 catches up with the Wu-Tang members after their first album, facing divergent paths in the years that follow. As with any group navigating the challenging lure of fame and money, it’s a treacherous road — but an indelible journey. “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” Season 3 premieres February 15 on Hulu.
Here’s everything coming to Hulu in February 2023.
February 1
“Taiwan Crime Stories” (Season 1)
“Impractical Jokers” (Seasons 1-3)
“Naruto Shippuden”
“Sherman’s Showcase” (Season 2B)
“2012” (2009)
“50/50” (2011)
“Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman” (2021)

Following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists his friends and fellow clerks Dante, Elias, Jay, and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all.
Kevin Smith and his cohorts are back for a third round at the Quick Stop and like his previous Clerks movies, this three-quel calls upon Smith’s own life experiences – namely his well-publicised heart attack – to inform the plot. However Clerks 3 is also a huge love letter to Smith’s films and his fans…
A love letter to Smith’s oeuvre in so much as he homages scenes, lines and characters from a myriad of his previous works. The cast of characters he plucked from obscurity in New Jersey all those years ago returning...

The stars of Impractical Jokers sure know how to make fans laugh on truTV, and they’re bringing that infectious humor out on the road with their latest tour. Ahead of their Season 10 return in early 2023, James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn, and Sal Vulcano announced that they will take their comedy across 16 cities beginning in February 2023. The lifelong friends who compete to embarrass each other on the hidden camera series Impractical Jokers are promising plenty of fun for fans who pay them a visit at one of the several scheduled shows part of the “Drive Drive Drive Drive Drive Tour.” (Credit: truTV) The name for the tour comes from one of Season 9’s more memorable punishments in which Q recalls he had to drive in a car for hours while muppet-like characters “played this one 3o-second song over and over again. And that song was, ‘Drive, Drive, Drive, Drive,...

Exclusive: Jim Biederman, who produced Kids in the Hall and Jodi Lennon, who produced At Home with Amy Sedaris, are teaming up and have struck a first-look deal with Truly Original.
It comes after the pair worked with the Banijay-owned production company on The CW’s comedy panel show Would I Lie To You?. Biederman was showrunner and exec producer and Lennon was co-exec producer and writer.
The deal will help Truly Original, which also makes a number of The Real Housewives shows, move further into comedic unscripted series in the narrative, sketch, variety and game show genres.
The pair will work with Head of Development Chachi Senior and SVP Michelle Schiefen.
Biederman and Lennon have known each other for more than two decades from the New York comedy and sketch scene with Biederman’s other credits including The Tom Green Show, The Whitest Kids U’ Know and The Howard...

“If u saw me kick a guys ass after the show last night, I am sorry,” wrote comedian Kim Congdon on Twitter this weekend. “He sexually assaulted me after my set (and bragged about it on his way out), ruining an otherwise perfect night for me.”
Congdon — whose credits include Impractical Jokers, Stoned Science, Broad Topics on YouTube as well as her This Bitch podcast and appearances on big-name podcasts such as The Joe Rogan Experience and Kill Tony — was opening for Joey Diaz at Sony Hall in New York when, she told Deadline tonight, the incident took place.
“I had left my phone on a tripod near the sound booth and went to get it” after her set, Congdon said. That took her through the crowd. “The guy must have been walking back from the bathroom or something.”
While she did not originally describe the incident in detail, after...

Filmmaker Kevin Smith started his career by making a movie with his friends, and honestly, nothing's really changed. The prolific writer and director recently released his goodbye to the View Askewniverse, "Clerks III," and pulled out all of the stops bringing his famous (and not-so-famous) friends together for one last hurrah.
There are so many cameos in "Clerks III" that it's almost difficult to determine what's a cameo and what's simply someone reprising a role from one of the other Askewniverse films, but that's honestly part of the fun. After all, this is a universe where there are at least five different men walking around looking and sounding like Ben Affleck, including a brand new one introduced in "Clerks III."
Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) are back, of course, along with a few other View Askewniverse favorites that actually have too much screen-time to be "cameos," but there...
