hardcore criticism of the 1% mixed with a spoonful of sugar

I won't say the spoonful of comedy helps the medicine go down in this episode, and if there is no Season 2, it would truly be a downer of a series finale, so let's proceed hoping the stars align for another season of this lovely, moving and often hilarious show. Molly grows on us more and more as her character develops, which is why the twist ending was particularly disheartening. And though there is some basis for this whole show, and the general public normally gets no inside glimpse into how these people live and how they decide where to give their money, if this is a true representation, maybe we don't need to see that. That being said (and I'm not a big Maya Rudolph fan), Maya is way more fun to watch than Melinda Gates and MacKenzie Scott, for example, and nobody wants to see more of Gates/Buffet, even if we're glad they've vowed to give away their billions. That is to say, billionaires ARE kind of gross, and it's only the staff that make the medicine go down at all. Particularly when Molly and her cousin seem to crave partners who use them pretty cruelly and that's also not popcorn fare. It doesn't seem like the foundation or the leads made enough progress by season's end to really feel satisfying. It's like how disappointing it was that the Wrexham club didn't get promoted a year after Ryan Reynolds bought it. Life doesn't always have happy endings; this is NOT a light comedy, so it doesn't either. But it's also lacking that ever-present hope that Ted Lasso has. The cast has enough chemistry to turn this around in S2...*if* they hire a better writer/editor to add a bit more realism to the nitty gritty foundation work, what it takes to make real change, and to allow greater character development for all the lead cast. Step it up, showrunners, writers - your cast deserves a bit better.

On a final note, those this was a drastic change of pace for Olivier Martinez, this charming Adonis was wasted here.

The End or is it

Warning: Spoilers
The Silver Moon Summit, (Episode 10) The episode that aired before the finale of season was simply amazing. Howard and Nicholas' bromance is back, Molly has an altercation with some neighbours who object to her encroaching on their space, and Jean Pierre throws things for a loop. The Loot episode which preceded the finale of season was hilarious. This is what happened in "Cahoga Lake." Sofia is eager to inform everyone that their idea is being voted on and that she believes it will be approved. All members of the team will be travelling to Silver Moon Summit in order to see Jean Pierre and Molly show off a water filtering device there. When Nicholas learns that the play's leading lady has to cancel, they offer him the part. Howard decides to end their dispute to a**ist Nicholas in getting ready to play. Molly gets criticized by the locals each time she votes. Arthur comes in front Molly to help her deflect the criticisms from a group. Jean Pierre arrives to take Molly with him as they discuss the matter. Howard finally loses control and abandons Tonya. As Nicholas is getting ready to take the stage he gives him the motivational speech of a lifetime. While performing in the play, Nicholas puts up a fantastic performance, but Molly didn't attend. Nicholas takes the stage in the final scene of Loot Season 1 Episode 9. Howard, his friend and reestablished acquaintance, gives him support backstage. It must be effective because Nicholas continues to perform an emotionally charged piece. Howard even breaks down and takes a bow when Nicholas does. When her helper shines, Molly isn't present to witness it. As Jean-Pierre and her travel companions are flying on private aircraft, she receives a reminder calendar for the play. She stays put rather than rushing to the "supposed North Hollywood." As an act of contrition, Molly delivers the bottle of champagne that she promised Nicholas they would sip together to the theatre.

Not at all a fan of the contradictory messaging

The show's entire premise is based on a circumstantial billionaire just trying to do the right thing, and I've appreciated the many nuanced characters in the show and how it breaks down stereotypes. And so it is bewildering to me how this episode perpetuates this idea that Molly is the only well meaning billionaire in the world, and that other billionaires have no care for anyone else.

Apparently someone who stumbles into a massive fortune is capable of good, but others who built theirs aren't? What a ludicrous suggestion.

The show has also made it abundantly clear that charitable foundations require careful work, and that money alone doesn't solve everything. Despite that, Molly goes on a rant about giving away all her money, because that apparently solves all problems?

How then, is the entire premise even supposed to work? Is that really what 9 episodes have been working up to? Give away all your money, problem solved?

It's all too common that people support charity, but only if the person wealthier than them does it. Really disappointing to see this show falling on that cliche.
