Feels like a teaser for next season instead of being a proper finale
APolygons2-2575312 December 2022
It's not a bad episode. In fact it's in the better half of episodes this season, but like, really?

This is the first season where the plot felt like it it didn't move at all.

It's weird because season 5 had great story beats, but had a few episodes that were no where near up to the normal rick and morty standard.

But this season while not a single one of the episodes was bad... there was very little that the show delivered for it's story.

Now that's not the worst thing ever, but I did come out of this season thinking by rick and morty standards it was average.

Yes, season 5 had bad episodes.

But it also had way more episodes that stood out. I still think this is an improvement, but I can't say I wasn't disappointed by the lack of story.

The episode itself is fun. It has some nice moments and is entertaining through and through. Although it's not the funniest and most of it's value comes from character development and being a fantastic teaser.

And to be completely fair, while it being a teaser in the first place isn't something that I love, I also admit that, that is completely a problem that only stands because I have to wait for season 7.

Which means it won't be one for future viewers.

Anyways, this season had a lot of good, but not as much great as I expected.

The only episode that truly stood out to me was the meta one which as a wanna be writer, I absolutely adored.

So Excited For Next Season
collincundiff13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Was Season 6 a little bit disappointing? Definitely, but at least the quality stayed good throughout the season. There weren't any episodes that stood out as bad or amazing, just 10 great episodes which I'm honestly fine with. Rick's hints for the next season have made me the most excited for this show since "The Ricklantis Mixup".

This episode in particular was one of the stronger ones which is always a plus, and as a Star Wars fan the idea of dropping a lightsaber perfectly vertical is hilarious. Also I don't know why but I love every episode that the president is in. He's so damn funny, and his chemistry with Morty is great.

I'm not disappointed, I didn't really feel much watching the end of the episode, just an emptiness and uncertainty if the series can improve more in the future
rafaelct-0625913 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I feel that judging this season for being the first to lack at least one episode of 9.0 or higher rating is unnecessary, because what matters to me is that it managed to have a higher quality More stable than the inconsistent last season. Still, I feel that what for me was so unique, funny and special about this series slowly becomes generic and expected, like Rick's crazy joke at the beginning or at the end of the seasons, or Mr. Poopy pants in the post-credits at the end of the season. Plus I feel a strange feeling that this episode was very similar to inside job in some things, like rick's attitude and reagan's father, or the robot rick and the robot kenedy, but well, this is more of a personal thing. I feel that the development in morty and rick's attitudes and actions are very inconsistent, as they try to develop the characters (especially rick) emotionally, but in the end they throw away 90% of what we thought was changing. About one of the main plots of the episode (Rick's), I think it was absurd, the information we were given in this episode about Rick prime's story is scarce, and I find it annoying that they really make us wait for plots that end up being resolved in the first episode of the next season, I wish they could really innovate, entertain, interest and improve many aspects that the series does not know very well how to deal with, as if they were trying to revive the style of the first seasons but now with problems of ideas, script, humor and an exaggeration of breaking the fourth wall and intelligence, which contradicts a lot to the "development" of Rick. Simply a season finale somewhat empty and with a somewhat desperate plot thread, even repeating 3 damn times the same joke of the perfect fall of the laser swords and at the same time showing as 5 scenarios in the whole episode where Rick is seen investigating what we all wanted to know.

Did we watch the same show?
TarToast15 December 2022
Honestly wasn't compelled to review this until I saw people here complaining that this season did nothing to move the show forward. Really? This was the first season where I felt like my investment in the show was being rewarded. From the premiere recalling throwaway gags from season two to Beth's tryst with her clone, season six played with the show's canon in a way I've craved since Rick Potion #9 cemented me as a fan.

It also seems like some people aren't aware that Roiland and Harmon are contractually obligated to hit 100 episodes, which is why we have the ultra-meta episodes that acknowledge the necessity for wheel spinning.

Rick and Morty will be 10 years old in 2023 (yes really) and season six finally advanced the plot in many ways.

Called it
Trey_Trebuchet1 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Dang. I was sort of just theorizing when I mentioned Rick being a clone or a robot. Was a bit surprised he actually was but not totally surprised either.

For once, I actually kind of understand where both sides are coming from in a Rick and Morty episode. I get why some are disappointed and why some are not. It IS a good episode, with some really good laughs and a twist that I was cool with. I thought Rick hiding out and sending a nicer version of himself for the holidays was done well enough.

As a season finale? It's alright I guess. Moreso a S3 finale than a S4 or S5 finale. It does sort of feel like a tease for the next season. Why not do an eleventh episode where Rick confronts his evil self? I guess Season 7 will give me an answer.

Also, I must say that much of the Star Wars satire and jokes didn't land for me. They outstayed their welcome a bit.

Overall, this sixth season was good. There were some episodes I loved, some I didn't love, but I didn't dislike any of it. It's definitely a more cohesive season than S5, but the quality of S5's best episodes wasn't quite reached here for me. Some of it still felt like classic Rick and Morty though and I respect that.

Fingers crossed the seventh season is great. I'd like another great season of Rick and Morty again.

Beat Saber
southdavid19 December 2022
Season six of "Rick and Morty" concludes with an episode that is perhaps the most balanced on of the whole run. It's funny, it has a reasonably clever sci-fi plot, gives us a little more of the backstory we've been missing and resolves a theory I've seen online.

It's Christmas, and amongst the thoughtful gifts that Rick (Justin Roiland) has bestowed on the family is a true working Light Sabre for Morty (Justin Roiland). Unfortunately, Morty drops his weapon at an exact vertical angle, and it cuts through several levels of Rick's underground lab before starting to burn through the Earth towards the Core. The President (Keith David) arrives and offers Rick the chance to help save the world but he, and Morty, are engaged in an argument as, searching through the lab has revealed a truth.

The truth revealed, that the Rick we've seen recently has been a robot, programmed to be nicer than the real Rick, but also to allow him to focus on hunting Rick Prime, is a theory I had seen bandied around on the internet. I do wonder though if we've seen these episodes a little out of the initial intended order as, though he says he switched early in the Knights of the Sun episode, we had seen a nicer Rick in a few of the earlier ones. The episode also teases that season seven may focus on Rick's hunt for his wife's killer but delivering on a tease wouldn't exactly be on brand.

The President appearing again feels like "Rick and Morty" playing their trump card, as Keith David's delivery is uniformly brilliant and his commitment to the Star Wars analysis scenes were great. It helps that they were well written too just the sort of rant you'd read on an internet forum, or in an IMDB review.

The season overall was more consistent that the last run and had no particularly bad episodes, but that came at the expense of no really top-notch ones either.

Still wanted a bit more
lukerox21 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think people are still giving Rick and Morty too much hate for going for longevity. People want story and they want "classic rick and Morty" adventures. Justin and Dan are managing to do both and setting up a massive world with dynamic characters. It's just a comedy at the end of the day and they haven't failed at that imo.

The lightsaber stuff made me laugh out loud consistently. Loved the Disney hate. I'm a sucker for President episodes and the extreme pettiness it brings out of Rick. It was one of the least climactic episodes of the series. I'm excited for Ricks hunt but I really do appreciate the way that they can do stupid, fun episodes and still make them have pretty deep character development. I hope they take their time and keep expanding.

Pretty fun finale
fedarrt-1396112 December 2022
Not the mind-blowing end to the season I think we were hoping for and certainly weaker than the season 5 finale, though this still delivers a pretty funny, well paced episode. Robot Rick was definitely a highlight and it's always nice to follow Morty's character development throughout the show. Despite suffering from much the same problems every recent episode displays like an over-reliance on metalanguage (self aware promises of future canon and plot points) and pop culture references (the whole episode is a star wars joke), this still delivered in a way that satisfied me, and it's certainly a good entry to the show.

Lackluster finale for a luckluster season
dirvingman-6213613 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rick And Morty has hit a huge problem. It's lost itself. Season 5 was the beginning. Season 6 continues the trend. Nothing in Season 6 was as bad as the lowlights in Season 5, but nothing was as good as the highlights either. And only 2-3 episodes hold a candle to pre-Season 5 R&M.

So what's causing this problem? The writing, first and foremost, has taken a huge nosedive. Not all the time, mind you, but the inconsistency is maddening. Plots are thinner, and hyper-fixate on too little ideas that, on paper, are funny, but not for an entire episode. Here is yet another example from this season. The lightsaber falling perfectly vertical and creating havoc = funny idea. Having it be the focal point of an entire episode, with so many shoehorned rants about the Star Wars franchise = unfunny idea.

It's like the writers think that making the plotline a joke means that they don't have to write many more jokes for the episode. They would also do well to remember that being silly and being dumb are not inseparable things. Stories can be silly but still be smartly written. This ain't it. Season 7 has to turn it around.

Best season ever!
arimashiniwa18 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the growth all characters have and I'll definitely miss robo Rick. I can't wait til next season, this episode have a great plot twist, I just wish that the president doesn't appear in next season. But there's so much I need to see, like bird person, Rick prime, I need more of space Beth and Beth and I'm really intrigued of how would be the relationship of Morty and Rick, cuz I feel that even if Rick have open up to the family and Morty have come to understand more his grandfather and both got closer, I also feel that their relationship have been really damaged for this episode. I hope we get to see more of the Rick that really cares for Morty and his family.

A Decent Episode Episode in Itself But...
MamadNobari9712 December 2022
Not a satisfying finale to the season at all. I think this season overall was more enjoyable and better than season 5 as there were no sperm or dragon episodes in it surprisingly! But season 5's finale was definitely way better than this and they decided to allegedly keep the main storyline with Rick Prime for the seventh season, so we're probably gonna get a continuation in the 11's season hopefully!

The premise of the episode itself is decent I guess though it still relies on the exact same thing all of modern SW have been criticized for, but nevertheless it's a decent idea for at least half of an episode, I'm just not sure about it being the main plot of the whole episode. Because honestly, it felt like they just had this one idea, or let's say a shower thought most people have had about this idea and they just ran with it without it having a plot that feels like an actual episode of Rick and Morty.

Like it just feels like I'm watching an incomplete story about this plot. Compare it to the last episode's plot and this whole episode feels like 1/3 of that plot. This is a rare instance where the "episode ended too fast I didn't even notice it was 20 minutes" is not a compliment and a negative because there wasn't much substance for a finale.

I guess there is one other subplot about Rick himself which starts out ok but doesn't really culminate into anything special or substantial other than one funny slow-motion scene.

It is especially more disappointing when they had a whole season with random stories and no mention of Rick Prime making you think that this last episode is at least gonna have more than what we got, but no, there's nothing and we have to wait another year or two to see if they're actually going to stick with a real coherent plotline or if they're just gonna drag the story to season 10 and sprinkle a background cameo and reference every now and then and then at the end we're probably not even gonna have a whole 20 minutes worth of storyline with Rick Prime.

They just did some Rick Prime at the beginning of the season, then they decided that "eff it, we can't be f'd, we leave it to future us to come up with some ish about Rick Prime when we're gonna write season 7 or 8, so let's just mention it a couple of time, I think that's enough."

Anyway, this episode was just decent and the idea while interesting at first, they don't really do anything that fun or more interesting with it and it feels like a regular episode they put in the middle of the season not the finale. The idea itself and plot b could've had more interesting revelations and conclusions, but they are just mediocre in the end.

The episode itself is fun and compare to some of the atrocities of season 5 and previous seasons it's clearly a better episode and more fun, and by itself it's a 7 or an 8/10 episode, hell, I would've given it an 8/10 if this was episode 5, but as the finale of this season especially after that first episode? It's unfortunately disappointing and gets a 6/10 from me.

The season 6 has been a blast with some mental and some boring moments
ha77y73ad9721 December 2022
Keep the seasons rolling, Rick and Morty will always be a crazy ride of mayhem that I cant stop watching. When Dan Harmon sticks with a show it proves the belief that he has in ever season! Proven time and time again that he can create some of the best comedy with some of the weirdest story points. We have rick back with portal travel.

Theres some many great details that is have seen throughout the series which i cant describe in details across the board. There have been ups and downs for this series but i cant say this has been a bad series by any way. Give me any more episodes of Rick and Morty i'll watch it. Just rolled on 2023 for season 7!

Morty and... Rick
cd-no-8514 December 2022
Underwhelming. Hopefully this will be inspiration to the next season; but it seems the writers have lost their touch.

It was nowhere near as creative and inventive as we've seen before. With this so-called 'finale' of the season, it seems the team were reaching for more time-permitting canon to scrape another season out of viewers.

Rick wasn't nearly as intellectual as he should have been (and we've seen him in worse situations). The story and comedy of the episode drew dry and dated after a few minutes.

I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas-themed movies and TV episodes but even that theme was neglected by the end.

A few moments of giggling... yet let down by the lack of care for the episode.

I wish the best for Rick and Mort and I know they'll be back! You know they have something in store for us...

Why do you do this to your consumers?
IBlackI14 December 2022
It's clearly a bad episode, not just because most of it is boring and we really care about Christmas? I say because it shows a lot that this is pure filler, nobody cares about Star Wars anymore, for obvious reasons that involve a monopoly Mouse with quite questionable ideas, I feel that they could have used every episode to close with a flourish, because they were doing well, but all the progress they already had previously with Rick they throw overboard.

And now we return to the "main" plot of the murders of Rick's family by R Prime, I think it's okay I buy it, but why waste most of your chapter on the most boring character in this story that is the president, and to finish this episode, the hook is that the Next season will look for R Prime? I don't know, I can just comment on this episode and I think they don't know where to go with this main story that is more interesting than the episode garbage that has been brought to us for 2 seasons.

Cringe galore
Name65715 May 2023
Like wow, Rick and morty does have some pop culture references from time to time but this season is something else. There's just nonstop pop culture references, the references are as mild as "there's a whole doctor who thing with my ship" to a whole episode dedicated to die hard (HILARIOUS AND ORIGINAL). There was just so much I shuddered with cringe and stopped watching the episode when ever there was a reference every second, they just add nothing to the show. There were some good episodes this season and show that Rick and morty can still be good without pop culture and weird gross out shock humor, like the first episode of the season was one of the good ones of this season, night family was good and analyze piss were some of the only episodes that weren't invaded with references. But over all I couldn't stomach most of the episodes this season and stopped watching them halfway through, considering the whole deal with the creator and how cringey this season was I will not be watching another season of Rick and morty. Also another thing I wanted to mention why I obama still president? It's insulting and a slap in the face that most shows even politically incorrect ones like Rick and morty and South Park choose to either Villianize trump or just completely ignore him.

Merry Christmas early I guess
ericstevenson12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode wasn't good for a season finale. It reveals that Rick was a robot for the last episode. I knew it wasn't the real him. It did at least have a cool premise with Morty's lightsaber falling towards the Earth and almost destroying the core. The President comes in to stop it and Morty directly does, but then the President steals it. It goes back towards the Earth as the White House flies into space.

Morty gets its back again and the White House gets destroyed at the bottom. I was thinking we'd see the lightsabers go towards the Earth at the end. It was instead Mr. Poopybutthole. Shouldn't he have died when Mr. Frumbles destroyed the Earth? I guess this is just the new Universe's version of him. Still good, but I wanted to see a lot more advancement with finding Rick Prime, but at least we'll get that next season. ***

An Above Average End for an Above Average season.
arunspanesar12 December 2022
This episode was a blast, I'm really liking Marty's character development and in more recent episodes his ability to think for himself (although that leads to more good than bad).

This episode opens up with "Nice" Rick giving the family presents thus giving Morty a lightsaber. Then the lightsaber falls and whilst retrieving it find the original Rick trying to find Rick prime which leads to story points unfolding and the president coming back into the mix.

What I liked:
  • Nice Rick (A side of Rick that is there but we never get to see)
  • A dumb story that leads to good laughs
  • Star Wars (duh)
  • Disney Star Wars hate (Duh x2)

What I disliked:
  • Lack Luster Concept
  • The President (at first he was a cool character but now every episode he's in just worsens the stories overall quality)

This season is probably the best since season 3 and had great episodes like Solarricks, Analyse Piss and Night Family as the stand out. I like the more canonical episodes this season as they actually flesh out the characters a fair bit in the right direction. Overall I'd give this whole season a 7/10.

Mid season, cute episode
booga-8260112 December 2022
Firstly, I think there is something really refreshing and special about the new season of Rick and Morty but I still think it lacks, some of the originality and the goodness that the seasons before had, seasons 1,2,3 in my opinion we're greater in every aspect, they were funnier more complex and engaging, this things I see less in the last seasons, don't get me wrong they are still fun to watch but I feel like alot of good things are missing and it's just not the same it's not the same fun, and it seems like they try to much to please us, which is not always the right way to make a series good.

To conclude, the season is not bad, but I think you can improve alot if you try.

A massive teaser for a exciting story
arranandrews15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode itself is pretty tame, with morty dropping a light saber into the sun and figuring out Rick in the last two episodes was a robot and that the real Rick was searching for Rick prime. I wish we could have season seven now because this looks so interesting and I'm still stunned by that last scene, woah. It was a perfect indicator that Rick hasn't changed since episode one. I want to see a I depth analysis of morty before rick to see how much Rick has affected him, or more specifically: the effect of Rick potion #9 the reason I mention this because morty is seemingly going to join Rick on his road to revenge and seeing morty mature throughout the pain that will bring. I liked this episode, and I'm excited for more.

Poor season, poor finale
ajs32115 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode gave me high hopes of the season but ever since it has just been worse. Boring forgetful episodes because for awful storylines. Rick didn't feel like rick in the entire season, space Beth was boring as hell, Beth behaves like a robot, they did nothing with summer and morty seems lost and different every episode.

IMAGINE THIS, you make the first episode about catching evil rick and then the finale about the same. All you did this season is make goofy episodes that in it self didn't do much or were engaging.

AND PLEASE TELL ME WHY THE HELL IS THE PRESIDENT IN SO MANY EPISODES. He is decent character but is so overused. I don't understand his relevance in a episode like this and how he impacts rick and morty's overall story.

This show isn't a robot, but if it were, it'd ask you to kill it
isherwood-mote_john20 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode seems to quite obviously be full of metaphors for where the show's at at the moment. I'm not sure if they were all intended, and if they were, if I indeed caught all of them, misinterpreted others, but having browsed some other reviews I feel pretty sure that some of the more obvious metaphors went over the heads of a significant portion of viewers.

After the long hiatus of earlier seasons, Harmon and co have been dragging out content with increasing frequency. Harmon and Roiland have confided publicly how exhausting it is for them keeping up with the increasing intensity of the production schedule based on the success of the early seasons which catapulted them into long-term contracts. I'm hesitant to believe they anticipated how much of a commitment this show could possibly be and the all-consuming success it would generate.

Many fans are disgruntled with the downward spiral of Rick and Morty's late/latest seasons. Personally, for me the opening moment of the pilot episode irreverently parodying Back to the Future with an exaggerated + alcoholic "Doc" flailing and failing to counsel an anxiety ridden "Marty McFly" was and continues to be utterly hilarious and the peak of Rick and Morty. The premise was originally conceived of in Justin Roiland's "Ricky and Mharti" earlier in his career. In the early seasons, they successfully fleshed out this premise while pivoting story beats and character developments on some interesting 101 philosophical quandaries and personal existential pontifications afforded by having a maniacal, self-hating, and toxic genius steering the absurdist ship. Once the ship gathered steam and garnered more stakeholders and devout fans, the show quite clearly waned and became increasingly thin on the ground in terms of story writing and disinterested with itself. This show now is perhaps more self-aware and creative than it ever was, but with that comes an awareness of the price it's paid by compensating story and genuine growth with meandering, readily inconsequential, rapid fire plot devices. Occasionally worthy of a wry (if not hysterical) laugh and self-aware enough so as not to be dissociative for the viewer, but ever vigilantly filled with a sense of self-disappointment in lieu of something genuinely captivating.

Roiland has gone through serious bouts of depression during the runtime of this show (which seems to have been obliquely channeled into the hyper-functional alcoholism of Rick), while Harmon would love to do other projects of his own-making, rather than devote his writing prowess in leading the writer's room on the coattails of another's love child project. If I'm to look at it cynically, I'm pretty sure Harmon would snap off the hand of anyone who could offer him the role of writing and producing a new Community season that promised to be only half as successful as Rick and Morty instead of helping write season 7 (and beyond). He has has after all expressly stated that Community is his proudest body of work (based on his own experiences in community college, himself inspiring the POV of a more socially competent Jeff Winger), and either working on a Community revival (with the movie to go on top of the 6 seasons now announced) or some other project belonging to him alone, would probably be enough to dissuade him from signing onto more Rick and Morty.

In this episode, robot Rick is pandering to Morty and the family as per his programming at the hands of real Rick. Sticking to what seems to be the most important metaphor in this episode (sidelining, for example, the self-deprecating parallels of Star Wars, first starting with a turd then ending with a turd), robot Rick is emblematic of what the show has become. Robot Rick cannot directly confide his "robotic" truth, but is expressing it as directly as he can to those that have grown to him ('say you're a robot without saying you're a robot') and wishing some act or circumstance will put an end to the misery of his dissonant existence, simultaneously both caring and gratified by the esteem in which he's now held and yet also nothing more than an empty puppet. The show isn't exactly crying for help, but the metaphor of robot Rick parallels the bind of the show creators in keeping this going for as long as they have been contractually committed to. And it needs someone, anyone but themselves (for fear of preemptively disembowelling it's own legacy perhaps?), to put it to an end.

If this doesn't happen before season 7, we'll get a half-baked Rick nemesis season. As Rick confides, that arc will either be a recurring backdrop or in the forefront of the season's narrative. Perhaps like an Evil Morty Mk II in spirit? You guys liked that right? It sounds intriguing, no? Whatever really. Or at least, no one tasked with writing it probably cares too much at this stage.

forgetful
talllwoood1320 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There were some good episodes in this season but the last two or three episodes were an absolute slog to get through. Although this season had a few good adventures which this 2 star does not reflect on but my big complaint is they really didn't do anything this season. They closed a dimension Rick kept putting off he'd fix as I guess the writers couldn't figure out anything good enough then they wave this somewhat interesting character in front of us like a carrot on a stick which wasn't say Evil Morty good but still interesting and they hardly used that other Rick. They just teased us about him in the last episode again like hey gang ya remember him! That was quite a let down. Same with using the guest voice actors doing the same voices for other disposable characters over and over again to the point it's pointless. There's more voice actors than the usual Nolan North and Maurice Lamarche and so forth they keep running back to.

This episode in general is just more Keith David being Keith David. He has a great voice but he's gotten over used. They should add more characters or bring back ones they haven't used in a while unless the second rate writers haven't seen the first few seasons. Bring back bird person or someone else to win some fans back instead of most of the half baked ideas from this season. Keith had more complexity as a character in Steven Seagal movies he was in and seriously the whole episode was about a light saber being dropped to the earths core. Seriously... who cares. Star Wars fans or not I doubt they would care. This has to be one of the worst Christmas "Specials" I've seen in a while. However.this was still a huge improvement from the stupid crows episode season 5 ended on. Rick doesn't work unless he's mean and edgy. The nice Rick didn't work in those few episodes and the miracle on 34th street the mindless banter got old. The season is really summed up with the last scene after the credits for the entire season. What the writers need to do is give us more lore about either Evil Morty or this new Rick. This season was just a mess like season 4 and 5. The wacky adventures are extremely important and a big reason I haven't given up on this show but just like Blacklist they dragged it on for so long that no one cares who Reddington really was/is.

I love Rick and Morty, but now I am tired of it.
saifreaksout12 December 2022
This is the first time I am reviewing on Imdb and that is telling a lot. I really hope this reaches the writers and the production team because I speak on behalf of my social circle too.

The show has been good but it needs to end to be great. This season is one season longer than I thought for it. Character growth is meaningless if you don't give it a satisfying conclusion or end. Its almost meta how this episode talks about the star wars franchise milking their previous success when they should have ended it. I feel the same way about Rick and Morty now. I love Rick and Morty, but now I am tired of it.
